What should be the temperature of the processor on a laptop
Overheating of the processor! Temperature increase! Heat dissipation! With these words, a lot of scary stories about a too hot relationship between a person and a laptop begin. In some of them the laptop explodes, in some it dies too early And there are also those where the owner, holding the red-hot laptop on his lap, can no longer procreate.
The key element in all of these stories is processor temperature. It is no secret that the processor generates heat while doing its job of processing information. Of course, laptops have a cooling system, but not always its power is enough to cool the processor to an acceptable temperature. So, what processor temperature is considered normal for a laptop and how not to go beyond it?
A bit of theory
Modern processors are initially capable of withstanding a fairly large heat without harm to themselves. So, the critical temperature can reach one hundred degrees Celsius and even more. It’s not just that enthusiastic overclockers come up with special cooling systems to overclock processors to the limit.!
Another thing is that such a high temperature can damage other components of the laptop. for example, plastic elements. The case is unlikely to catch fire, but it can melt completely. This is exactly what is avoided by installing ingenious heatsinks in powerful laptops.
As for the human body, heating up to 40-45 ° C will already cause discomfort for the user, especially if the laptop case is made of metal and conducts heat well. What can we say about higher temperatures!
Of course, low-power processors have much less heat dissipation, so we will only consider relatively productive devices based on Intel i5, i7 and AMD FX processors.
To consider the practical heat dissipation of processors, the researchers looked at several popular models with different processors, both with a discrete video card (which takes part of the processor load) and with an integrated video core.
So, for a laptop Acer TravelMate P238-M-5575 with a common dual-core Intel Core i5-6200U processor and an integrated video core, the usual operating temperature was about 35-40 degrees. In this range, heating can be noticeable, but it does not harm either the device or the person. Using the test utility HW Monitor, we managed to raise the processor load to a level at which the temperature for the complex from both cores was 79 ° C. This is far from the critical temperature of the processor itself (it is about 100 ° C), but the user may seem, to put it mildly, elevated. Another thing is that a person will not feel this temperature, since the cooling system in a laptop does its job.
Another model. Asus F555UB-XO043T. is based on the same processor and also does not have a discrete graphics card. The result turned out to be a little predictable: the released temperature also remained within 80 ° C and could not somehow come close to the risky values. The user, of course, should not keep a laptop operating in this mode on his lap, but if the device is on the table (and even more so on a special cooling pad), there should be no harm from this.
Of greater interest to us is testing the notebook Gigabyte P55K v5, which belongs to the class of gaming machines and offers the maximum filling. In our case, this is an almost uncompromising Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor (the HQ index means four cores, but the overclocking option is disabled) plus an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M graphics card. This is a much more powerful kit: although the card reduces the load on the processor itself, it contributes to the overall heating. Therefore, the laptop has a more advanced cooling system.
Here, tests show the numbers from which breath can stop. When running our familiar HW Monitor, one of the processor cores warmed up to a critically close 99 ° C, the rest, however, did not lag too far behind. Graphics card temperature reached 81 ° C.
Dangerously? Yes. But this is an artificially achieved load. In fact, the normal temperature of the laptop processor, even when running very heavy games, barely reached 80 ° C. And given that the generated heat is immediately dissipated and removed, the laptop is ready for short-term extreme loads.
Finally, let’s dilute the Intel monopoly with a laptop powered by an AMD FX-8800P processor. This is the Acer Aspire E5-552G, which also has an AMD Radeon R8 M365DX graphics card on board. It is curious that the integration of a system from one manufacturer allows using the integrated and discrete video card both alternately and simultaneously, in CrossFire mode. This means the maximum use of all computational elements, which means maximum heat dissipation.
Recall that for AMD FX-8800P, the critical temperature threshold is lower than for Intel designs, and is only 90 ° C. For the user, this means that the developers have reduced heat transfer, and the case will not be such a fire-breathing “stove” even under high load.
The results were very encouraging. Even with the highest voltage provided by the Prime95 utility, the CPU temperature rose to only 54 ° C. The main “stove” (in contrast to the previous examples) suddenly turned out to be a discrete video card, which sold out to as much as 74 ° C. However, this result is far from critical values.
In practice, for users, this experiment can generate a whole set of interesting conclusions:
- If you know what the temperature of the processor on a laptop should be in theory, then values that seem critical may turn out to be quite acceptable. The numbers may look dangerous, but they should be compared to the limit values from the processor specifications.
- Notebook designers expect notebook processors to operate reliably within the target values of the processor manufacturers.
- But the critical values themselves may decrease in the event of poor performance of the cooling system. Therefore, owners of powerful gaming laptops should be especially careful to monitor the ventilation and heat dissipation of their machines.
- If you often use your laptop in extreme conditions, it is worth increasing the cooling, for example, a stand with a fan.
- Overheating of the case usually does not reach dangerous values. However, if the case becomes warmer than usual, this is a signal of a violation of cooling. In this case, the following procedures are needed:
- Update BIOS. If the issue is common to the series, an update may fix it.
- Replace thermal grease.
- Check the system for malware. You are not interested in someone mining bitcoins on your expensive laptop, wearing it out and giving nothing in return.?
- Be vigilant!
How to find out the temperature of the processor?
- Go to BIOS and look with a special section
- Using specialized utilities
First option. We go into the BIOS by pressing F2 or Del at boot (different manufacturers have different keys). And find the System Health tab. There will be readings of various sensors, including the temperature of the processor.
Second option. Install the AIDA64 or CPU-Z or HWMonitor program. And there are many similar options. All these utilities show detailed information about the computer and also information from the sensors. And of course the CPU temperature.
Laptop cooling methods
Before talking about cooling methods, you need to make sure your laptop really needs them. To do this, measure the temperature of the processor and video card using the program. For example, the well-known application Aida64 will do. After starting the program, go to the “Computer” tab, then find the “Sensors” item. This is where all the information is contained (by the way, the program is paid). The processor temperature under load should be on average 85-90 degrees (you can find out the exact numbers on the manufacturer’s official website). The critical temperature of the video card is 100-105 degrees.
There is also a simpler (moreover, free) program Speecy. To find out the CPU temperature, go to the CPU tab and look for the Average temperature setting. Information about the video card is listed in the “Graphics Devices” tab. If you find that the temperature is above critical, then proceed to the following actions:
Attention! If you are not confident in your abilities, then it is better to entrust this business to professionals.
For cleaning, you need to disassemble the laptop and get to the motherboard. The difficulty is that laptops from different manufacturers are disaggregated in different ways. For example, in some laptops, to get to the cooling system, you only need to remove the back cover, while in others you need to completely disassemble the device.
With the screws removed and the motherboard removed, it’s time to start cleaning. First, clean the cooler and its blades from dust with a simple brush. Then wipe the vent located on the bottom cover. The radiator grill (which is located on the left side of the laptop) needs to be purged. For this, a simple hair dryer with a narrow nozzle (use cold air) or a special compressor that blows out air under high pressure is suitable. If you are not going to change the thermal paste, then you can assemble the laptop.
First you need to completely remove the remnants of the old paste. You can use toilet paper for this. Then wipe the treated surfaces with a cloth soaked in alcohol and wipe dry. You can start applying.
Attention! Thermal paste is applied in a very thin layer to close the microscopic gaps between the heatsink and the processor (video card). A thick layer of paste will have the opposite effect, and the heat will be released longer.
What should be the temperature of the processor? Ways to lower it
Many PC users are tormented by the question. what should be the processor temperature? Sometimes it reaches great values and people are tormented, but won’t it all burn out? Good day, dear visitors of Bloger-Man.Ru! I am very glad that you came to see me. In this article we will try to figure out what temperatures are normal for the processor and in what ways it can be measured.
The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the brain of the PC and is responsible for processing a lot of information. And the more information it processes, the more it heats up and, accordingly, its temperature rises. I want to say that on the Internet there is a very widespread opinion that when buying a processor for a computer, it is better to abandon the BOX option with a standard cooler in the kit, but to buy it separately and not spare money on it. Unfortunately, at one time I was stingy with such an option and on my processor you can safely fry eggs. Be more prudent and don’t repeat my mistakes.
What should be the temperature of the processor
I hope that you figured out what the processor temperature should be with the help of this article. So for today, let me take my leave. Good luck! Come again.
There are several ways to apply the paste:
Smear the paste with your finger, a plastic card, or other flat object. After applying the paste, the laptop can be assembled.
There are several other cooling methods:
Cooling pad. The efficiency of its use is there, but it is small. The temperature drops by only 3-7 degrees, and the stand takes up one USB port.
Using various applications. Some programs (eg SpeedFan) may increase the speed of the fans. Temperature drops slightly, but coolers wear out faster.
To avoid frequent overheating in the future, observe the following rules:
Do not place the laptop on soft surfaces (furniture, carpet) and knees to avoid blocking the ventilation holes.
If the laptop is on a table, place a small stand under it for better air circulation.
Do not leave the laptop on the floor, as all dust collects in the lower part of the room (20-25 cm from the floor).
These simple tips will help your folding friend not burn out ahead of time.
What should be the temperature of the processor?
So, what should be the temperature of the processor in our PC? Summarizing the processor manufacturers, we can say that the critical operating temperature of the processor is 100 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is higher, then destructive processes begin in the processor, and sooner or later it will fail. On average, the operating temperature of the processor lies in the range of 60 80 degrees, and somewhere around 40 degrees Celsius at idle.
Separate sources say that the normal processor temperature may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer:
- Intel. when the processor is loaded, its temperature is in the range from 60 to 70 degrees Celsius. If the processor is not loaded, then its temperature should be about 35 degrees Celsius
- AMD. under load, processors from this manufacturer are in the range from 60 to 80 degrees Celsius. When idle, its temperature should be around 45 degrees Celsius.
Motherboard designers have provided various options for operating the PC and crammed special sensors to monitor various parameters, including our favorite processor temperature. Most likely, if you went into the BIOS, you hardly noticed that you can adjust the processor power yourself and set up a shutdown when it overheats. On some models of processors, automatic protection against overheating is provided, but it is still better not to bring it to this and regularly clean the system unit or laptops from dust.
What should be the normal temperature of the processor?
This is the question users ask themselves after they are going to start monitoring the CPU temperature. Indeed, the question is extremely interesting, although it is not easy to answer. Why? The fact is that a lot depends on the model of the processor itself. But generally speaking, the numbers are as follows:
- No load (idle). 30-45 ° C.
- Under load. 50-65 ° C.
It is also worth noting that Intel processors usually have a wider operating temperature range than AMD devices.
In order to find out the maximum temperature of your processor, you need to use the specification of the specified model. So, for Intel and AMD processors, you can find information on the official website. For example, let’s take an Intel Core i5-7600K processor (ark.intel.com/ru/products/97144/Intel-Core-i5-7600K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-4_20-GHz). We go to the site in the specification section. Find the line TJUNCTION and see a temperature of 100 ° C.
Click on the question icon and see the following:
Temperature at the actual contact patch. this is the maximum temperature allowed on the processor die.
Although the maximum processor temperature is 100 ° C, this does not mean that it should be so. Short-term rises in temperature are considered acceptable, the value of which is below the limit by 10-15%. But the lower the temperature, the better.
Now take the 6th Gen AMD PRO A10-8850B APU processor (products.amd.com/en-us/search/APU/AMD-PRO-A-Series-Processors/AMD-PRO-A-Series-A10-APU-for- Desktops / 6th-Gen-AMD-PRO-A10-8850B-APU / 156). We go to the site in the product specification, find the line Max Temps and see the figure 72.40 ° C. this is the maximum allowable temperature.
If you notice that the temperature is significantly higher than normal, it is obviously worth taking care of the cooling system. Although everything can be much simpler. you just need to change the thermal paste on the processor.
What should be the temperature of the processor?
Sometimes the processor (CPU) installed in a computer or laptop can overheat. What’s bad about it? At least, nothing good: overheating can lead to interruptions in work, freezes, lags, sometimes. rebooting the PC and even turning it off. Well, if the case is running, the processor may simply fail. Considering the current for new processors, it is better not to bring it to such a level. What needs to be done? Monitor the temperature of the processor, especially if you think there is a possibility of overheating.
How to track CPU temperature?
With the numbers sorted out, now let’s figure out how to monitor the temperature of the processor. You can, of course, use the standard features of Windows or BIOS, but in this case it is very inconvenient to use them. Therefore, we advise you to use third-party applications.
The first app is SpeedFan. Simple, lightweight, free.
The second application is Speccy. Allows you to watch a fairly large amount of information and the computer and components, including the temperature of the processor. Free distribution.
Another simple and free utility. Core Temp.
If you are interested in other ways to monitor CPU temperature, check out this article.
Dear users! If our site helped you or if you didn’t like something about it, we will be glad if you leave a comment. Thank you very much in advance.
Consequences of overheating
- The computer starts to run slowly;
- The system reboots itself (long live thermal protection!);
- The PC may shut down. In the worst case, it won’t start anymore
What processor temperature is considered normal for a laptop?
I analyzed a lot of information and came to the conclusion that the allowable temperature range is 40-70 degrees Celsius for AMD and Intel process handlers. But this does not mean that with an increase of at least 1 degree, the following will happen:
The developers of modern microchips indicate the value of the limiting temperature, but it is assumed that there is a margin of 20-30 degrees. For example, for an i7 CPU, the maximum value is 110 ° C. Even if you follow the situation with the help of special applications, which I talked about in detail in this article, you need to discard 10-15 ° C from the shown values.
Gamers should pay special attention to efficient laptop cooling. If in the process of active use the computer turns off, then self-defense is triggered. In my practice, there was a case when, after disassembling and cleaning the laptop, they forgot to connect the cooler. Attempts to start the system ended in failure. So you know, if something like this happens, you need to listen to if the internal fan is working.
What is the normal temperature of a laptop processor
In this publication I will try to answer the sore question of most users: “What is the normal temperature of a laptop processor?” Also, methods of lowering the degree will be considered.
The difficulty is that there is no value that is optimal for all processors. The numbers are different for each laptop manufacturer and CPU. It is best to familiarize yourself with the documentation that comes with your model.
We make the temperature regime optimal
Now I will tell you about simple ways to help cool your laptop. Perhaps I will not discover America, but these tips will definitely come in handy for someone.
- First of all, it is necessary to properly organize the workplace. For example, I had an HP Pavilion g6 laptop with air vents on the left. When I put the device on a table, the PC was close to the wall, which obstructed air circulation and negatively affected cooling. Other models may have these holes in the rear. It is worth considering this point. Also, it is advisable not to put fluffy fabrics under the device.
- We check the performance of the fans, the number of revolutions under load using special software (you can download it here). If necessary, we perform cleaning or replacement of the cooler for a more efficient.
If the active cooling system makes strange noises (knocking, clicking, etc.), the problem is most likely in the bearings. They can be replaced or lubricated.
But Lenovo often puts not very high-quality fans on its budget models. If you notice that the degrees rise sharply when the load is applied (starting the game, watching high-definition video) and the problem is not dust, then you should purchase a more efficient cooler.
- We carry out cleaning. From time to time I had to be horrified by what I saw during the disassembly of laptops. The following snapshot shows a not-so-neglected situation:
So, cleaning should be done annually. You can even twice a year. It all depends on the operating conditions. If the PC is used in a dusty warehouse, then it should be “vacuumed” more often to avoid overheating.
- Changing the thermal paste. In one of the previous articles, I talked in detail about this procedure and its importance. Here, read.
- We use a special stand. Occasionally, lifting the back of the unit helps improve air circulation. Remember I was talking about the vents. In no case should they be closed. A good solution would be to install a stand with active cooling.
I use this for my compact netbook Acer, which, alas, heats up quite a bit when watching movies.
Now you know what the normal temperature of the laptop processor is and the reduction methods that actually work. Would you like to share your experience? I look forward to your comments.
Program for checking the temperature of the processor
For example, you can find out the normal temperature for a processor using the HWMonitor utility:
- Download the program from the official website.
- Install and run the utility.
- Find the processor in the list.
- Examine the Temperatures section.
Now let’s see the maximum CPU temperature under load. Leave the HWMonitor utility enabled and start a modern game, or just work on your laptop in your usual mode. After 40 minutes, you can check the result. it will be displayed in the “Max Temperature” column.
Do not rely on idle temperatures. it may be normal, but under load on the CPU, it rises so much that the laptop will overheat.
What processor temperature should be on a laptop?
The operating temperature of the processor is a factor in the normal functioning of the notebook. Therefore, if you care about the stability, reliability and performance of a laptop, then you should know how to measure the temperature indicators of the CPU.
How to view the CPU temperature in BIOS
There are several ways to check the CPU temperature. The first is to reboot the laptop and view the temperature readings in the BIOS, on the Hardware Monitor tab. But this method has a drawback: the BIOS displays the CPU temperature in idle mode. It is more important for users to see how much the chip heats up under load, that is, to find out the maximum temperature of the processor, and this can be done using special programs.
Normal laptop CPU temperature
It is impossible to deduce the optimal CPU temperature, since manufacturers set different permissible values. If you had an Intel Core i5, and now you have a laptop with an i7, then the maximum temperature has changed. it is better to clarify it in the specification for the equipment.
The problem is that manufacturers often do not indicate acceptable temperature values at all. As a result, users think the CPU is overheating already at 70 ° C. This is a misconception. when the sensor reads 90 ° C, the core temperature may be less than 60 ° C.
Most Intel processors have a heat tolerance of 60-70 ° C (Tcase, the temperature at which the laptop reboots). The figures shown by the monitoring programs do not always reflect the real picture. It is possible to determine the achievement of the maximum value only indirectly by fixing the temperature indicators before the thermal protection is triggered (that is, before the laptop automatically reboots).
We repeat: all the obtained temperature values are to a certain extent abstract values.
When the processor temperature reaches the maximum allowable temperature, thermal protection is activated and the laptop shuts down.
Working on the verge of thermal protection is not dangerous, since the permissible value is set with a large margin. But this does not mean that you can not monitor the state of the CPU, relying on the automated shutdown technology.
Continuous monitoring of operating temperature
If you want to constantly monitor the temperature indicators of the CPU, then install the Speccy utility. After its launch, a complete monitoring of the condition of the laptop is carried out. The report on the processor can be obtained on the tab of the same name.
The indicated temperature is average, but if you click on the green icon, a graph of changes will appear. It also allows you to monitor how the CPU reacts to a serious load. In the Speccy parameters there is an option to minimize to the tray, after which the utility is displayed in the tray as a small icon.
- Expand the “View” menu and go to “Options”.
- On the “Notification area” tab, check the items “Minimize” and “Show values”.
- Select CPU and Average Temperature.
- Set the refresh rate and click “OK”.
If you do not run resource-intensive applications and demanding games on the laptop, the tray will display the normal operating temperature. If the temperature indicators exceed the permissible values, then you should think about cooling the laptop. replacing thermal paste, checking the cooler, cleaning from dust, purchasing a cooling attachment, etc.
HWMonitor and Speccy are universal utilities, so the information displayed in them may be incorrect. Less “lies” programs that come with the motherboard. If you don’t have one, try using the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool or SpeedFan. The first is designed specifically for Intel processors, the second is universal, but shows more real values.
Normal processor temperature in a laptop: what is it?
One of the disadvantages of laptops (especially gaming) is their compactness and “weak” cooling system. as a result, overheating is often observed. And quite a few questions come up about how to determine overheating in general, and what temperature of the processor should be considered normal, and which temperature is high and start worrying.
In general, it is impossible to give an unambiguous answer to this question. The fact is that in the last 10-15 years alone, thousands of different models of laptops have been released, various generations of processors are used, etc. Without knowing the specific processor model, one cannot say what is considered the norm and what is not.
In this article I will try to answer such questions and show you how you can independently find the critical temperature for your particular processor.
How to determine the temperature of the processor and what should be considered normal
First, let’s determine the current temperature value.
This can be done, for example, by going into the BIOS or using special utilities (I recommend the second option, because until you reach the BIOS and close games and other resource-intensive applications, the temperature will change, and its relevance will not be significant).
By opening AIDA 64, and going to the “Computer / Sensors” tab, you can find out the temperature of the processor, hard disk, video card and other components. See screenshot below.
Approx. : in my case the cpu temperature is 38 ° C.
AIDA 64. current cpu temperature
To get a more accurate temperature reading. without closing AIDA 64, start the game and play for 10-15 minutes, then close the game using the “Win” button (or a combination of AltTab buttons) and see the temperature reading.
In principle, now we have received a couple of dry numbers (one without load, the second under load), which do not tell us anything yet.
The next step to take is to find out the specific processor model. installed in the laptop. This can be done using the same AIDA 64. open the “Summary Information” tab and look at the line “CPU Type”.
Summary information about the computer. look at the TYPE of the CPU. Processor model. Intel i5-7200U
Next, you need to find the specification and those. characteristics of your specific processor on the official sites of Intel or AMD (I give the links below). For a quick search. just enter your processor model in the search box on the site.
Actually, it is in those. characteristics. usually, the manufacturer always indicates the critical temperatures for their processor lines. I gave a couple of examples below.
For the same Intel i5, i7 7-10th generations. the critical temperature value is. 100 ° C; for AMD A10, A12. 90 ° C.
Critical temperature for Intel i5-7200U
7th Gen A12-9730P APU. critical temperature
over, I note that the Intel limit of 100 ° C does not mean that the temperature of 90 ° C will be normal! When approaching this critical mark, the laptop, most likely, will either start to slow down hard, or simply freeze and turn off. This value, more is needed to know the border and when approaching it. to take timely measures.
On average, “in the hospital” it is considered normal (for modern laptops) if your processor heats up to a temperature:
- 30-50 ° C. idle, with less than 20% CPU load (i.e. low load, for example, reading web pages, social networks, watching movies and TV series);
- 50-70 ° C. under heavy load (i.e. in games, when rendering video, working in various heavy editors, etc.);
- I note right away that some gaming laptops are designed for temperatures up to 80-85 ° C and work quite normally in this mode for years.
In general, anything above 80 ° C. I would recommend it for examination and diagnostics. The fact is that heating to such a temperature does not have a beneficial effect on the components and parts on the mat. board (as an example: the hand can no longer tolerate temperatures above 60 ° C!).
It is worth noting that on the websites of laptop manufacturers, permissible temperatures are also sometimes indicated. Similar information can be found on them.
I will add that most often AMD processors overheat (with the exception of modern Ryzen). Nothing personal, simple statistics.
Tips for lowering CPU temperature in a laptop
1) If there are signs of overheating (loud noise from fans, hot case, burning air escaping from the ventilation holes of the device). turn off the laptop and let it cool.
2) Next, I would advise you to clean it from dust (clogging the ventilation holes, dust greatly interferes with the normal air circulation in the device).
For information on how you can clean your laptop from dust yourself, see this article.
3) Change the thermal grease / thermal pad. If you yourself do not know how this is done and what it is, use computer services. On average, it is recommended to do this once every 2-4 years.
4) There are specials for laptops on sale. about cooling pads. Such a stand is capable of reducing the temperature by 10-15 ° C or more (the amount of reduction depends on the design of the laptop and its degree of heating).
5) If you do not want to buy a stand, then you can put something under the laptop (a book, for example): to increase the space between the table and the ventilation holes.
6) By the way, it is recommended to work at the laptop on clean, hard and flat surfaces (and working on the sofa, for example, often interferes with normal air circulation inside the device (soft cloth blocks the ventilation holes)).
7) Reduce the graphics and system requirements in the game, optimize and clean the system, remove old unused programs and “garbage”. Due to this, the load on the CPU can be reduced because it will be unnecessary for him to perform “superfluous” and unnecessary work. I give a couple of links to my articles below.
1) How to clean your computer from garbage to speed up your work. see instructions.
8) You can significantly reduce the temperature by limiting the CPU performance (for example, if you disable the same Turbo Boost). over, it may very well be that this is a decrease in productivity. you won’t even notice. (as opposed to decreasing t by 10-20 ° C)
How it can be done. my previous note will tell. See link below.
How to reduce the temperature of the processor by fine tuning (up to 20 ° C): disabling Turbo Boost, Undervolting
What to do when your laptop’s processor temperature is high
If your laptop is very hot and its temperature in normal mode or under load exceeds the norm, this means that:
- Your laptop is overheating due to accumulated dust in the cooling system;
- Your laptop’s thermal grease is dry and needs to be replaced;
- To stabilize the thermal performance of the laptop CPU, you must update the BIOS;
- Permanent CPU heating can cause malware.
Dirty cooling systems in laptop computers are the single biggest cause of overheating in a laptop processor. Due to the accumulated dust in CO, it cannot cope with cooling. For the cooling system to function properly, it must be cleaned. When cleaning the laptop yourself, we want to warn their owners. If you decide to clean the laptop on your own, without having a certain experience, then you risk damaging the laptop. In this case, we advise you to contact a specialist. After cleaning the CO, you will immediately notice the result, since the CO noise level and the heating of the case will decrease.
Thermal grease is also an important element in CPU cooling, as it is the conductor between the CO and the CPU. If the thermal grease dries out, then the conductivity between the CO and the CPU drops, as a result of which heating occurs. In this case, the thermal paste is replaced. As well as with CO purification, we do not recommend carrying out an independent replacement of thermal paste without proper experience.
The solution to many problems with the stability of the laptop, including with the heating of the CPU, is to update the BIOS with a new firmware. You can find the new version of BIOS and instructions for updating it on the official website of the laptop manufacturer. Also on our website you can find out how to update the BIOS using a USB flash drive.
Nowadays, many cryptocurrencies are developing at a rapid pace, to the creation of which the developers were encouraged by the success of Bitcoin. At the dawn of the dawn of cryptocurrencies, a family of viruses has also evolved to mine it. The purpose of these viruses is to use the computing resources of the CPU or GPU of the laptop to extract cryptocurrency. If this kind of malware gets on your laptop, you will notice that the processor will be fully loaded even in idle mode. To prevent this situation in this case, we advise you to use reliable antivirus software. If the virus gets on the laptop, then in this case it can be removed with various antivirus tools or a complete reinstallation of the operating system.
Normal laptop processor temperatures
Often, laptop owners check its temperature. This is done in order to determine the temperature in different modes of operation and compare it with normal. If the temperature exceeds the recommended values, then the laptop owner should lower it, as this may lead to its breakdown.
To ensure that users’ laptop processor temperature meets the optimal criteria for its operation, we have prepared a material in which we will describe the process of solving the problem. To describe the solution to the problem, we will consider several modern laptops and find out what processor temperature is optimal for them, as well as find out what to do when it rises.
CPU operating temperature in modern laptops
In this section, we will describe the acceptable operating temperature of the CPU in four modern notebook models. For example, we will take the following modern laptop models:
- Acer TravelMate P238-M-5575 (Model with Intel Core i5-6200U CPU);
- Asus F555UB-XO043T (Model with Intel Core i5-6200U CPU);
- Gigabyte P55K v5 (Model with Intel Core i7-6700HQ CPU and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M GPU);
- Acer Aspire E5-552G (Model with AMD FX-8800P CPU and AMD Radeon R8 M365DX GPU).
The Acer TravelMate P238-M-5575 has a modern 7th generation Intel Core i5-6200U processor. This microcircuit is made using 14 nm lithography norms on the Skylake architecture. The maximum critical temperature of this CPU is 100 degrees.
The Intel Core i5-6200U has an integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 graphics core, which together with the processor cores can warm it up well. The temperature of the Intel Core i5-6200U barely reaches 34-40 degrees without a heavy load. If you run the stability test on the Acer TravelMate P238-M-5575 using Prime95, it will be able to significantly warm it up. Below is the thermal readings of an Intel Core i5-6200U using the HWMonitor utility.
The following image is read using the GPU-Z utility.
From the data obtained, it becomes clear that the Intel Core i5-6200U and its graphics core can be heated as much as possible within 74-76 degrees. It follows from this that at maximum warming up, this CPU completely fits into normal thermal characteristics, since it does not exceed 100 degrees.
The next model Asus F555UB-XO043T is based on a similar Intel Core i5-6200U CPU. Let’s run a similar stress test using the Prime95 utility. During the stress test, the following sensor readings were obtained in the HWMonitor program.
Also readings were taken from the graphics core.
From the data obtained, the processor temperature was 75-79 degrees, which is almost the same as the result of the Acer TravelMate P238-M-5575 model and corresponds to the normal temperature parameters of the CPU in question.
The next laptop Gigabyte P55K v5 is a gaming laptop, therefore, in addition to a powerful processor, it has a modern video card in its bundle. The Gigabyte P55K v5 has an Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M graphics card. If you compare this model with previous models, you will notice the difference that lies in the cooling system (hereinafter referred to as CO). In the model under consideration, the CO must cope with cooling both the video card and the CPU, and not only the processor, as in the previous models. The image below shows the CO Gigabyte P55K v5.
And on the other CO Acer TravelMate P238-M-5575.
The Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor has a critical heating level of 100 degrees. As in the previous examples, let’s run a stress test on Gigabyte P55K v5 using the Prime95 utility. During the test, we measured such indicators in the HWiNFO utility.
And also made measurements in the video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M.
As a result of the test, the CPU warmed up to a temperature of 97 degrees, and the video card to 81 degrees. This heating result is quite high, but still fits within 100 degrees.
For the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M video card, a result of 81 degrees is a fairly normal indicator, since its critical figure is 100 degrees. Of course, warming up the processor to 97 degrees is too big, but this is all the merit of Prime95, which squeezes out almost all the juices from the CPU.
If you run games such as Tom Clancy’s The Division and Far Cry Primal, which are very demanding on computer resources, you will see that the CPU and GPU in the Gigabyte P55K v5 will warm up within 70-80 degrees.
Now it’s time to consider what the temperature readings of the Acer Aspire E5-552G laptop with components from AMD. The heart of the computer is the AMD FX-8800P CPU. The installed graphics card is named AMD Radeon R8 M365DX. An interesting feature of this system is that the AMD FX-8800P has a built-in graphics core that can work in Crossfire mode together with the AMD Radeon R8 M365DX. That is, thanks to such a bundle, the user will receive twice the graphics performance. The AMD FX-8800P processor has a critical temperature rating of 90 degrees at which it will function normally. After warming up the Acer Aspire E5-552G with the Prime95 utility, we got the following heating results.
The CPU heating results were 54 degrees, which is a normal result for the AMD FX-8800P, since it fits within the 90 degree mark. The result of measuring the video card AMD Radeon R8 M365DX was 74 degrees, which is also a normal result.
From all the examples considered, it becomes clear that the normal temperature of the processor depends on the cooling system.
In this article, we looked at the temperature conditions of the CPU and GPU of four laptops from different manufacturers and with different characteristics. The examples considered should provide our readers with information about the normal temperature conditions of both the CPU and the video card.
In addition to the examples considered, we have compiled a list of tips with which a laptop user can solve the problem with overheating of the processor and video card, as well as prevent it. We hope our material will help you find out what the normal temperature regime of your laptop processor should be and will allow you to prevent it from overheating.
We remove dust
No matter how clean it is in your apartment, after a certain time a decent layer of dust accumulates in the laptop, which interferes with the movement of air. Thus, the fan can no longer cool the processor so actively and it starts to warm up. over, the value can rise very significantly!
Removal is very easy: regularly clean the device from dust. If you cannot do it yourself, then show the device to specialists at least once a year.
Controlling the layer of thermal paste
Many people do not fully understand the importance of thermal paste. It is used between the processor (which gets very hot) and the radiator case (used for cooling, by transferring heat to the air, which is expelled from the case by the cooler). Thermal paste has good thermal conductivity, due to which it transfers heat well from the processor to the heatsink.
If the thermal paste has not changed for a very long time or has become unusable, heat transfer deteriorates! Because of this, the processor does not transfer heat to the radiator and begins to warm up.
To eliminate the cause, it is better to show the device to specialists in order to check and replace the thermal paste if necessary. For inexperienced users, it is better not to do this procedure yourself.
We use a special stand
Now on sale you can find special stands that can reduce the temperature not only of the processor, but also of other components of the mobile device. This stand, as a rule, is powered by USB and therefore there will be no extra wires on the table.
From personal experience, I can say that the temperature on my laptop dropped by 5 grams. Ts (
about). Perhaps for those who have a very hot device. the indicator can be reduced by completely different numbers.
Laptop processor temperature is a normal indicator, what to do if it rises
Modern computers and laptops, as a rule, turn off (or reboot) when the critical temperature of the processor is reached. Very useful. it won’t burn your PC. But not everyone watches their devices and allows overheating. And this happens simply due to ignorance of what the normal indicators should be, how to control them and how you can avoid this problem.
Normal laptop CPU temperature
It is impossible to name the normal temperature unambiguously: it depends on the device model. As a rule, for normal mode, with a light load on the PC (for example, browsing the Internet, working with documents in Word), this value is 40-60 degrees (Celsius).
Under heavy load (modern games, converting and working with HD video, etc.), the temperature can increase significantly: for example, up to 60-90 degrees. Sometimes, on some laptop models, it can reach 100 degrees! Personally, I think that this is already the maximum and the processor is working at the limit (although it can work stably and you will not see any failures). At high temperatures, the service life of the equipment is significantly reduced. In general, it is undesirable for the indicators to be above 80-85.
How to lower your metrics
As a rule, most users start to think about the temperature after the laptop starts to behave unstable: for no reason at all, it reboots, turns off, “brakes” appear in games and videos. By the way, these are the most basic manifestations of device overheating.
You can also notice overheating by the way the PC starts to make noise: the cooler will rotate at maximum, creating noise. In addition, the body of the device will become warm, sometimes even hot (in the place where the air exits, most often on the left side).
Let’s take a look at the most common causes of overheating. By the way, also consider the temperature in the room in which the laptop is running. In extreme heat, 35-40 degrees. (which was in the summer of 2010). it is not surprising if even the processor that was working normally before will start to overheat.
Where to look
To find out the temperature of the processor, it is best to use special utilities. You can, of course, use the BIOS, but while you reboot the laptop to enter it, the indicator may significantly decrease than it was under load in Windows.
The best utilities for viewing computer performance are pcpro100.info/harakteristiki-kompyutera. I usually check with Everest.
After installing and running the program, go to the “computer / sensor” section and you will see the temperature of the processor and hard drive (by the way, an article about reducing the load on the HDD. pcpro100.info/vneshniy-zhestkiy-disk-i-utorrent-disk-peregruzhen- 100-kak-snizit-nagruzku /).
Eliminate surface heating
Few people know, and even more so they look at the operating instructions for the device. All manufacturers indicate that the device must be operated on a clean, level, dry surface. If, for example, you place your laptop on a soft surface that blocks air exchange and ventilation through special openings. It is very easy to eliminate this. use a flat table or stand without tablecloths, napkins and other textiles.
