There can be any number of circumstances leading to an increase in the startup duration: from system failures and hardware problems to the processing of recently installed software. especially if the latter was added to startup. The danger is presented by a different situation: chronic long boot Windows 10 at startup. You have an SSD drive installed or a regular magnetic hard drive, it almost does not matter: most of the tips below help when using drives of both types. In the most general case, the causes of malfunctions, the consequence of which is the long preparation of the OS for work, can be divided into two categories: hardware and software. If you have previously used Windows 7, then you know that this very environment is installed on disk along with the main system. And in order to enter it, you need to open the menu of additional boot methods (pressed after turning on the computer F8) and go to the “Troubleshooting” section.

The top ten also has a recovery environment, but since its boot time has significantly decreased in comparison with Windows 7, the interval when you can call the boot menu has also become much shorter. This recovery method is available for a short time (10-30 days, depending on the license terms) after updating Windows 7 or 8 to the top ten. It is possible only if you save the files of the previous OS, which are placed in the Windows folder. Old.

For BCDBoot to work correctly, you must specify the location of the Windows folder on your hard drive. To find out, you can use the Diskpart utility, but I find it more convenient to do this through Explorer.

While in notepad, go to the “File” menu, select “Open” and go to the “This computer” folder. Next, let’s go through the disk partitions and determine in which of them the system directory is located. In my example, this is drive D.

Next, we return to the command term and follow the instructions:

Please note that your path to the system folder may be the second.

In 80% of cases, this is enough for the “ten” to start normally. But in about 20% of cases, the command does not work correctly. it does not restore all boot files. To help the utility a little, before executing the instruction on the command line, you need to format the reserved boot partition (in my example, drive C) to FAT32. This can also be done using diskpart, but I find it more convenient to use the explorer.

The next two console commands re-create the entire drive boot record (MBR) and system partition (VBR). They are used to solve problems with starting Windows on MBR disks.

The commands are executed one after another in this order:

If you accidentally execute them on a GPT disk, nothing bad will happen.

In some cases, startup problems arise due to damage to NOT bootable, but to the main system files, for example, after a virus attack. As you probably know, there is a special utility called Sfc.Exe in Windows to fix them. So, thanks to the command line, you can also run it in the recovery environment.

The command to find and fix errors for protected system files in the recovery environment looks like this:

Sfc / scannow / offbootdir = D: \ / offwindir = D: \

The offbootdir parameter determines the location of the main boot partition (in my example, as you remember, this is drive D), and offwindir is the path to the system folder.

Using the command term, you can fix the registry errors of the non-bootable system. But, unlike the previous instructions, this requires some experience and qualifications, because the user needs to know exactly what to correct and how Erroneous entries should look normal.

14. Bootloader recovery

We check if there is a Boot Device Control section and the ability to choose between parameters such as: UEFI and Legacy, UEFI Only, Legacy Only. For older versions of the system, you should choose Legacy and UEFI Only or Legacy Only. For new systems, you need to try different options.
