Connect iPhone to charger

Often, the iPhone won’t turn on and show no signs of life due to the fact that its battery is dead. Connect your smartphone to the charger and leave it connected for an hour.

A few important tips that Honor follows:

  • Use original or quality charging accessories. There have been cases in which the iPhone turned off due to a dead battery, but did not charge due to using a broken charging adapter or cable. Be sure to make sure the charger and cable are in working order.
  • Charge iPhone with electricity. It is very common for users to charge their iPhone from a computer USB port. But due to the old battery in the smartphone and the low power of the connector, charging simply does not occur.
  • Check if the connector is dirty. Sometimes iPhone won’t start charging due to a heavily soiled Lightning connector. Examine the charging port. If it is really dirty, clean it gently, for example with a toothpick.

⚡ How to understand that the iPhone has started charging?

If the battery logo with the Lightning cable is displayed on the screen, the iPhone does not charge and asks for a connection to the charger. If this logo is displayed after you put the iPhone on charge, then the cable or adapter is out of order. Use other charging accessories.

If only the battery is displayed on the screen, then charging is successful. It is worth worrying only if this logo is displayed without changes for more than 30 minutes. In this case, you should also replace the charging adapter and cable.

? Remember how a forced reboot is performed on your device. It can help with most of these crashes that can happen on the iPhone.

A forced reboot is completely safe. Its execution does not delete any data on the iPhone, so you can perform it without fear.

None of the above methods helped? This means that your iPhone has a physical breakdown and you need to contact a service center.

Why iPhone won’t turn on?

A failed battery is the most common reason iPhone stops turning on. If you previously noticed that the smartphone was rapidly discharged, turned off by 10-30% of the charge, turned off in the cold and any other similar anomalies happened to it, then the problem is definitely with the battery.

Easy ways to fix iPhone 8 that won’t turn on [troubleshooting guide]

Replacement will help. expensive at Apple authorized service centers in Russia. 3000-7000 thousand rubles.

Broken power controller is another very common cause of iPhone failure. Symptoms before a smartphone fails are similar to a battery breakdown. accidental disconnections of the device, overheating.

Replacement is relatively inexpensive. You can change the power controller or other microcircuit associated with the charging process for about 2,000 rubles.

Failure of other components. iPhone may not turn on due to the breakdown of dozens of different components, including the motherboard. Most often this happens after the fall of the smartphone. It is possible to determine what exactly broke down only during the diagnosis.

Repairs can be ruinous. If the iPhone didn’t overheat before it broke, then it’s best to start praying right away that the motherboard is intact. Replacing it, especially on newer iPhone models, will cost a pretty penny.

Before going to the service center, we recommend that you contact Apple official support. The company’s specialists will be happy to help with advice.

1 Dry the device

If your smartphone stops working after you drop it into water or get caught in the rain, most likely it’s all about moisture that has got inside the case. over, if the gadget does not have water resistance, which would help it survive swimming.

In this case, you need to open the cover of the device, remove the SIM card and memory card, wipe all parts with a dry cloth and leave to dry disassembled. We do not recommend drying the apparatus with a hairdryer or hiding in rice.

For more information on what to do if you dropped your smartphone into the water, we talked about it in a separate article. It also happens that even IP68 certified devices “sink”. We figured out if they can be repaired under warranty:

3 Recharge your smartphone

The most common reason why the phone turned off and won’t turn on is a banal battery drain. If the smartphone has not been dropped in water or exposed to extremely low or high temperatures, it can be immediately connected to the charger. Just in case, check different sockets and chargers. perhaps the adapter or cable that you use with your smartphone is out of order.

5 Restart your smartphone

What to do if your Android phone or iPhone won’t turn on? If you have tried all the methods, you can turn to another one. forced reboot. Perhaps the gadget has turned off and does not want to work due to the last installed application or a firmware update that caused the system to crash. The smartphone could simply freeze and stop responding to button presses. making it seem to the user that it will not turn on.

To restart your old iPhone (up to the sixth line), you must simultaneously press and hold the Sleep / Wake and Home keys until the Apple logo appears on the display. On the 7th series iPhones, you should use a different combination: the side power and volume down buttons. IPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone SE, and all new devices without a Home button reboot with the following combination:

  • press the volume down and then volume up one by one;
  • press and hold the side button.

Android devices usually do not require such tambourine dances. they can be rebooted with a long press of the power button. However, some models use a key combination to force a restart: “Volume up” “Power on” or “Down” “Power on”. Try different options if necessary.

4 Check the battery

How to turn on the phone if it does not turn on and does not charge with any charger? In this case, it is worth checking if the battery is connected correctly. Remember. have you dropped your device lately? If dropped, the cover could be damaged, which presses the battery to the contacts. This is especially true for older models with removable batteries, which are not very securely fixed in the case.

If the phone has not been dropped and the battery shows no signs of damage, try restarting or resetting the gadget to factory settings.

2 Warm up or cool down the smartphone

Sometimes your phone won’t turn on or charge due to unfavorable temperatures, for example, if you’ve been out in the cold for a long time or left your device in the sun on a hot day. In the first case, he could pass out due to the cold. some phones still do not tolerate low temperatures, especially iPhones. In the second scenario, the battery will not charge until it cools down. this is necessary to protect the device from overheating.

Try to warm or cool the phone DO at room temperature. To do this, you do not need to use a refrigerator or put it on a battery. just leave the gadget in a room with a constant climate and wait a little. If the failure was related to the temperature regime, then the smartphone should quickly recover and start charging. This usually takes no more than half an hour. If it still does not turn on, try other methods from our material.

Why the phone won’t turn on and what to do about it: 6 tips

We figure out what to do if the phone does not turn on, and find out the most common causes of the problem.

Sometimes smartphones get into trouble. For example, if the phone falls down and does not turn on. what to do in this case? It is even worse if the gadget did not fall and generally worked fine, and now it charges, but does not turn on. Fortunately, you can fix many issues yourself by resetting your smartphone to factory settings or by updating your charger. We will tell you more about what actions you need to take if the device does not respond to pressing the power button.

6 Reset smartphone to factory settings

Any malfunction can be rectified by restoring the factory settings. However, this option should be used only as a last resort, since when you reset the device to factory, you will lose all the data that was stored on it. If the information could not be saved somewhere else, it is better to turn to less stringent methods.

Nevertheless, even a person far from technology can reset a smartphone to factory settings. We have made detailed instructions to help you restore the parameters of devices on Android and iOS.

If, after all the manipulations, the smartphone still does not turn on, contact the manufacturer’s service center. perhaps they will repair it under warranty.

Problems with the screen after a fall

When dropped, the screen may crack, partially function, reflect the picture, while the sensor does not respond, the display turns white or black, complete breakdown with the inability to turn it on.

If the screen is cracked, but this does not affect the performance of the device, the repair can be postponed and continue to use the iPhone. Often, the breakdown is purely aesthetic in nature. Sometimes, from regular vibration, cracks on the display can expand, which ultimately leads to image distortion or poor sensor functioning. Therefore, it is not worth delaying the repair.

If the iPhone works after the fall, but the screen turns black, you can try to restore it yourself:

  • Charge your mobile device.
  • Reboot.
  • Activate silent mode and deactivate it several times.

If the iPhone fell and does not turn on using the described manipulations, then this is due to internal breakdowns. The device must be shown to a specialist.

If your device has a protective glass and it cracked when dropped, then it is enough to replace the element.

  • Due to cracks, the adhesion strength of the protective screen and glass decreases, which means that it will not be difficult to separate them.
  • To do this, we take dental floss and gently bring it under the glass. When the thread has slipped through, you need to stick a toothpick or a sheet of paper so that the protection does not stick again.
  • Slowly lift the sheet of paper, carefully detaching the remaining protective glass from the screen.

Or you can use a special suction cup with a ring, as shown in the photo below.

Battery problems

All models of “apple” devices have a built-in rechargeable battery, so if it gets damaged, the device will have to be opened and replaced. What should I do if my iPhone fell and won’t turn on? Let’s first look at what can happen to the battery. Contacts may close in the device or it is only a matter of a lost loop.

If you are replacing the battery yourself, you need to stock up on a small suction cup with a ring and a five-blade screwdriver, and then follow the step-by-step instructions:

  • On the sides of the case, two screws are unscrewed. A suction cup is attached at the bottom of the display and, holding by the ring, gently pull the front panel at a right angle. The display is attached to the main board with three loops using a bracket. While holding the screen, unscrew the screws one by one and disconnect the bracket and the display wire. Then the front panel is removed to the side.
  • Unscrew the screws on the bracket and release the wire. To remove the battery, you must pull it out with a sharp movement, since during assembly it is glued to the body.
  • Then the battery is replaced with a new one. Following the steps described above in the opposite direction, assemble the device. In order not to get confused and not to forget the sequence of actions, during disassembly everything is recorded schematically or photographed.

Deformation of the body and invisible defects

In the best case, after a strong fall, a dent will appear on the case, which does not affect the functionality of the device. However, this is rare. Deformations affecting the refusal to turn on a mobile device, as a rule, damage the internal equipment: processor, microcircuit, ribbon cable, control module, board, power supply device and other parts. You can identify a breakdown yourself by disassembling the gadget, but even when identifying a broken element, you can replace it only with special equipment and skills.

In some cases, pressing the Home key and the power button at the same time helps to reanimate a mobile device after a fall. They are held for a few seconds until the phone starts rebooting. Another option is to connect your iPhone to your computer via iTunes and set up the operating system. If the smartphone is under warranty service and there are no external defects, then it is best to take it to the service center, where the damage will be eliminated completely free of charge under warranty.

It is not recommended to replace the iPhone case on your own, since the user cannot always do it carefully. Often such nuances are possible:

What to do right after a fall?

Depending on the situation in which the fall occurred, some features of the actions are distinguished:

If a mobile device falls into water, it must be pulled out immediately. You cannot turn on the smartphone; the battery is removed from it and placed in the sun or a battery. iPhone must be in a de-energized state for at least 24 hours. After drying, the battery is inserted into the device and turned on. If you do not know how to remove the back cover on iPhone, we suggest you watch the video below.

Charging module

There is a charging module between the battery and the main board, its function is to supply and distribute energy to all components of the smartphone. If the iPhone falls while charging and does not turn on, then this may be the case.

You can replace it yourself after purchasing the corresponding part or, in order to avoid poor-quality repair, entrust the work to a professional. If you decide to do everything yourself, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the video. The instruction is presented on the example of “iPhone” 6 model.

IPhone fell and won’t turn on: what to do, how to get it repaired

The mobile phone is an integral part of most people’s lives. They carry it with them everywhere: at work, on vacation, doing household chores, and, of course, there are often situations when the device falls. In most cases, the phone remains intact when dropped, but what to do if the iPhone is dropped and won’t turn on?

iPhone 8 wont turn on. the fix

Motherboard

One of the most important parts in a mobile device is the motherboard, which is a kind of “heart” of the iPhone. It consists of many parts and modules, each with its own function. It is possible to identify a specific breakdown only by using special equipment. Therefore, if the iPhone falls and does not turn on in any way, then it is worth taking it to a service center.

For example, if the malfunction is associated with a peripheral element, then repairing the motherboard and restoring device functions is possible. If the motherboard itself is out of order, the gadget will have to be disposed of. Of course, you can always purchase a separate part, but its cost and repair services will add up to the price of a new device.

In each generation of iPhones, the motherboard has its own degree of strength and the number of modules on it. At the time of the fall, any of them may suffer and lead to a breakdown of the device.

The power button is broken

If you feel an odd tactile response when you press it, or if you don’t click, there may be a problem with the power button. The key itself is made of durable aluminum, but there is a fragile spring contact underneath. Metal crumbles due to impact or excessive pressing, blocking the operation of the power button itself.

To turn on the equipment, it is enough to apply voltage to the power controller. Simply put, plug in the charging cable.

To turn off and restart the device for a while, you can set the AssistiveTouch virtual button. By displaying the AssistiveTouch item in Settings General Accessibility.

Burnt out charge controller

When charging from a fake device or a bad cable, and due to voltage surges, the power controller may burn out. Often this happens from charging in a car, shock, moisture. The iPhone power controller is a microcircuit that is responsible for distributing and regulating the supply of power to all nodes on the motherboard and peripheral components. To fix it, you need to completely open the device, so you cannot do without the help of specialists. Replacement will cost from 1,500 rubles on older models of smartphones, and up to 8,000 on newer ones in unofficial services.

Do a hard reboot

You can try to “wake up” the device yourself: restart the device without disconnecting it from the charger. To do this, press the “Power” and “Home” buttons at the same time (or the volume down key for models from the 7th generation), hold for 10-20 seconds. To force restart the iPhone X, press the volume key up, then down and hold down the power button until the apple sign appears. For detailed instructions for each model, see here.

Question answer

It happens that after updating iOs, and sometimes after a simple call or uninstalling an application, the display goes out and the device does not turn on anymore. At most it hangs an apple and the screen goes out again, and so on in a circle.

Two options will help: Hard Reset and flashing.

Will help “hard” reboot or contact the service center.

DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode is used to flash or restore iOs. In this case, the information will be erased beyond the possibility of recovery (which explains the name of the method). With a fresh backup, all data can be returned to the phone.

Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB and open iTunes. Further steps depend on the device model:

  • For iPhones older than the 7th generation, hold down the “Power” and “Home” buttons for 20 seconds until the iTunes logo lights up on the screen.
  • For models 7 and 7, simultaneously with the “ON” key, press the volume down button until the media player logo appears.
  • For smartphones from model 8, click “volume up”, “volume down” and hold down the side button until the iTunes symbol lights up.

After connecting the phone to the program, we will try to press the “Refresh” button first, and if it works, all the data will be saved. If it does not help, we confirm the “hard” reboot, which will take 30-40 minutes and require the Internet without interruption. It is important not to disconnect the smartphone from the cable until the end of the procedure.

Lightning connector is broken or clogged

Check if the Lightning connector is working for dirt or foreign objects such as crumbs, sand or lint from your jeans. A toothpick will help to clean the port, but this must be done carefully so as not to damage the contacts. An ordinary paper clip comes to the rescue: just bend the sharp end.

To avoid plugging the connector, we recommend using special silicone plugs: the outlet will be hermetically sealed and foreign particles will not get into it.

Main reasons

If your case did not fall under the above scenarios, you may have to replace entire modules. Tens of thousands of components make up an iPhone, here are the main parts of the device that can cause problems.

What to do if iPhone won’t turn on and doesn’t respond to anything

Sometimes gadgets fail at the most inopportune moment, forcing us to explore the Internet in search of answers. The iPhone is no exception. Today we will figure out what to do if the iPhone does not turn on, does not charge and does not respond to pressing.

We follow our instructions, built on the principle from a simple solution to a complex one. The manual is universal and suitable for all models: 4, 4s, 5, 5c, 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, XS Max, XR, 11. 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max.

  • The charge level disappears before our eyes, 10 minutes was 90%, it was 20%,
  • The apple logo is on, it suddenly goes out, and then it does not load,
  • Display blinks cyclically,
  • Sometimes after a successful switch on, iOs shamelessly lags, glitches, slows down, lives its own life, and then hangs tight,
  • Knocked out after talking or uninstalling an app.
  • To start
  • Connect to charger
  • Do a hard reboot
  • After frost or extreme heat
  • Main reasons
  • Lightning connector is broken or clogged
  • The battery died
  • The power button is broken
  • Burnt out charge controller
  • Faulty motherboard
  • Falling or drowning
  • Curve firmware or Jailbreak installed
  • Malfunction in the screen or video adapter

The battery died

This is the most common reason iPhone won’t turn on, other than charging problems. A sign of battery failure can be a sudden shutdown at a 10-30% charge remaining, a regular shutdown at a cold temperature (below 1 degree). A failed battery can be replaced: the cost of work together with a spare part will be about 2.000. 7.000 rubles. in the official service and at half the price of unofficial.

If the phone starts to revive after a long period of non-use, for example, it has been left in a drawer on the desktop for a long vacation, the battery may be deeply discharged (“sleeping battery”). In this case, the destruction of chemical bonds inside the battery occurs, and as a result, the voltage decreases to 1-2 volts. The power controller on the motherboard detects a critically low battery level and blocks the battery charging. Voltage blocking, protects the Li-ion battery from swelling, and prevents damage to the electronic filling of the iPhone.

Any complete discharge is a risk of loss of performance, you should not bring the phone’s energy to zero. Experts advise keeping the charge in the 80 to 20% range.

You can try to push the battery, but for this you have to remove the battery by disassembling the case. After removal, connect the cell to a universal charger, commonly called a “frog”. Thanks to the direct power supply circuit, there is a chance that the battery will come to life.

But this is a temporary solution, continue to monitor the device: the battery may be discharged too quickly and then you cannot do without a replacement in the service.

Hypothermia or overheating

With hypothermia or overheating of the iPhone, sometimes, but still there are cases that the device freezes on an apple and refuses to boot.

In this case, you need to give the iPhone time to “recover”. The main thing for the device is to provide it with a place at room temperature, away from open sunlight or freezing temperatures.

But we do not recommend trying to warm or cool the iPhone using aids.

IOS / app or jailbreak issues

Apple has highlighted the need for users to responsibly update their iPhone many times.

  • Have enough memory on your device to update;
  • Create a backup before updating;
  • Charge your iPhone at least 50% or put it on charge;
  • Provide a stable Wi-Fi connection;
  • When starting the update, you cannot restart or interrupt the download.

Many users ignore these facts, install low-quality beta, carry out the jailbreak process, and then suffer from the fact that the iPhone freezes on the “apple” and does not want to work. I do not recommend doing this.

How to Force Restart iPhone with Home Button

Older iPhones are still equipped with a Home button. these are all devices from the first iPhone to the iPhone X. The most popular of them are: iPhone SE, iPhone 5 / 5s, iPhone 6 / 6s / 6 Plus / 6s Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, iPhone 8/8 Plus.

  • If you have a sixth iPhone or an older model, to restart, you need to hold down the Home button and the power key for about 10 seconds until the apple icon disappears from the screen. Also it shouldn’t blink.
  • If you have an iPhone 7 or older, press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time until the white manufacturer logo disappears.

During the reboot, the phone will restore all disturbed processes and start up normally. Remember that after this you will need to enter the password for your Apple ID account.

In case your iPhone does not turn on, the apple lights up and goes out when you reboot, there is a special firmware update mode, also known as DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode. When it is a forced rollback of the system, error diagnostics and emergency device update.

If the reboot and recovery option did not help you, then DFU will become a kind of “plan B”. We still do not recommend starting with it. try Hard Reset and Recovery first, and if nothing works, go to recovery via DFU.

DFU mode works mostly on older iPhones. Here’s how to turn it on.
