Which Button To Press To Turn On The Laptop

Old OS and reboot

We managed to find out why the laptop freezes. And we also had to familiarize ourselves with the main ways of reloading the OS. How exactly to proceed? Each user decides on his own, taking into account the auto goods situation.

Laptop freeze? What to do? For older operating systems, you can only restart your computer using the keyboard. Not always, but very often.

The user just needs to press Ctrl Alt Del several times (with short pauses). After that, an Emergency PC restart will be performed.

Eating and waiting

How to restart a laptop if it freezes and does NOT respond to user actions? It all depends on the circumstances. After all, sometimes it is possible to reboot by simply disconnecting the laptop from the network.

What if my laptop has a non-removable battery and is powered directly from power? Similar circumstances, if you exclude shutdown using the Power button, predict only one scenario. Expectation.

What does it mean? You need to follow these instructions:

  • Unplug laptop from power cord.
  • Try to restart the computer using the previously listed methods (using the keyboard).
  • Wait a few hours.

You can do without step 2. That is, just unplug the laptop and wait. True, you need to be patient. The wait will be long. Until the device battery is fully discharged. Even in a freeze state, the OS consumes energy.

What will happen? The computer will just run down and shut down. After that, it remains just to connect the laptop to power through the wire, wait a few minutes (not necessarily, but desirable), and then turn it on using the Power button.

Coming to help

What if my laptop has a black screen? The above techniques will help to correct the situation. But what if they did NOT work?

which, button, press, turn, laptop

Under certain circumstances, users can try to shutdown the laptop like this:

  • Disconnect the power cord.
  • Upside down laptop.
  • Disconnect the battery from the main body.
  • Insert it back.

It is done! After the above steps, the user can turn on the computer again. This technique is not relevant for all laptops. It is not suitable for devices whose batteries are NOT removable. Therefore, removing a battery does not always help to get rid of “glitches” and freezes.

Power off

Laptop frozen and WON’T turn off? The following advice may be suitable for users who work with laptops without batteries, that is, with the battery disconnected.

If the computer cannot be restarted, you must turn it off. Disconnecting the laptop from the power source is NOT the best, but very effective method.

In simple terms, the user simply has to unplug the power cord from the laptop. If the laptop was originally NOT connected to the battery, an emergency shutdown of the OS will occur.

Attention: this technique is used in extreme cases. It can cause quite serious damage to the computer and the operating system in general.

This does NOT mean at all that turning off the power of the laptop is contraindicated. Sometimes this approach is the only method to solve the auto products problem. Therefore, every modern user should know about it.

Force reboot

If the computer “buggy” and does NOT reboot in the usual way, you must force restart the OS. This is a normal phenomenon, the technique is used in practice quite often.

You need to act like this:

  • Press Ctrl Alt Del on the keyboard.
  • In the lower right corner, click on the arrow button. Next to it there will be an image of a shutdown PC.
  • Select the function in the menu that appears “Reboot”.

It is done. In fact, everything is not as difficult as it seems. And now it is clear what to do if the laptop has a black screen or a simple freeze. But this is just the beginning. In reality, there are several more ways to deal with “glitches” laptops.

Sources of problems

Laptop problems can happen at any time. As a rule, this leads to slow operation of the OS, and then to a complete freeze of the computer.

The most common causes “glitches” are the following factors:

  • Software incompatibility;
  • Lack of RAM;
  • Processor load;
  • System crashes;
  • Viruses;
  • Incorrectly installed operating system;
  • Downed OS settings.

Often, a rollback of the system or an increase in RAM helps to correct the situation. But first you have to turn off your PC. Laptop freeze? What to do? How do I reboot or shut down my laptop? All possible scenarios will be discussed below.

Power buttons

How do I restart my laptop if it freezes? Sometimes it happens that the operating system stops responding to any user actions. In this case, as a rule, rebooting does not help. I have to emergency shutdown the laptop.

You can also do this in several ways. We found out why the laptop freezes. Regardless of the cause “glitches”, in some cases, the user must emergency shutdown with the OS. To do this, just press the laptop power button and hold it in this position for a few seconds (5-10).

What will happen? The computer will be emergency shutdown. After enabling it, the user will be offered several options for loading the operating system. For example, in safe mode and normal.

Reboot without shutting down

Laptop freeze? What to do? If the operating system is still responsive to user input, you can try to restart without shutting down the computer. This practice exists, but it is not used very often.

So, it is proposed to act like this:

  • Open in any way (via “Start” or Ctrl Alt Del) function menu.
  • Select item “Log out”.
  • Wait a while.

So users can re-enter the operating system without shutting down the computer. Although, as practice shows, exiting the OS is rarely used in practice.

The laptop is frozen. What to do? How to restart a laptop if it freezes

User laptop stuck? What to do? We will have to answer this question further. After all, every user can face a freeze of the operating system. Often, in the case of laptops, you can reboot the PC using a more extensive list of tricks. They will be discussed further. Unfortunately, restarting the OS in case “glitches” not always safe. And this must be taken into account first of all. Therefore, we will try to study the safer overloading techniques first.

Starting a laptop without a power button

A broken power button on a laptop is a common problem for many users. This situation leads to the inability to start the device. It would be most correct to fix the button, but it is not always possible to do this manually or immediately take it to a service center for repair. You can start the device without this button, but this is done in two simple ways.

Boot Menu

Almost all modern portable PCs are equipped with a special button that allows you to launch a special menu. Most often it is located somewhere on the side of the case or at the top near the display and is pressed with a finger or a needle. You can turn on the laptop using it as follows:

    Examine the case of the device carefully or look for the description in the manual to find the button you need.

Press it once and wait for the menu to launch. A small blue window should appear on the screen. Navigate through it using the keyboard arrows, select “Normal Startup” and press Enter.

After a while, the operating system will boot successfully. Of course, you can use this button all the time, but it is not always convenient and causes some difficulties. Therefore, it is better to set certain parameters through the BIOS. Read more about them below.

We start the laptop without the power button

We do not recommend disassembling the laptop and trying to fix the button if you have never worked with such equipment before. Failure to do so can damage other components. Better to use the services of a professional or turn on the laptop without a button. Sometimes only the top of the button breaks and the switch remains intact. To start the device, you just need to press the switch with any convenient object.

Power ON function

It is better to take care of how to turn on the laptop in advance if the start button breaks. In addition, this method will be useful for those who start the system through the Boot Menu. You just need to set certain parameters, and you can turn on the laptop from the keyboard. Follow the instructions:

  • Enter BIOS via Boot Menu or in any other convenient way.

Go to “Power Management Setup” or “Power” section. Partition names may vary depending on the BIOS manufacturer.

Find the item “Power ON function” and set the value to “Any Key”.

  • Now you can reboot the device, just before exiting Do not forget to save the settings.
  • Thanks to the change in this parameter, the laptop can now be started by pressing absolutely any key on the keyboard. After fixing the Power button, you can return the reverse settings in the same way if this configuration does not suit you.

    Today we have analyzed two options, thanks to which the mobile computer is turned on without a corresponding button. Such methods allow NOT to disassemble the device for manual repair and not to carry it urgently to the service center for repair.

    Sleep mode. turn off, turn on, configure on Windows 10

    Let’s consider the basic settings and options for sleep mode. Windows Settings and power settings.

    Windows 10 settings

    As you know, Microsoft is systematically abandoning the Control Panel, where all system settings are concentrated and duplicated in a more convenient place. Windows Settings. With the release of the new version, more and more settings are added here.

    To open hibernation options, follow these steps:

    • First, open Settings, clicked the Wini combination or open “Start” and click on the gear icon.
    • Go to “System” settings and open “Power and sleep”
    • Here you can adjust the time to go to sleep and turn off the screen to save energy

    But there are times when the options window does not open (Windows 10 can work so strangely). In this case, the good old Control Panel will help you

    In the control panel, we need system power settings, where we can not only turn on the necessary parameters, but also customize them in detail for ourselves.

    • To get started, open the Control Panel: open the Run window (WinR shortcut) type control and click OK. Or in the Windows search (keyboard shortcut WinS) enter the query “control panel” and select the desired application.
    • Here select “Power supply”
    • In the power settings, namely in the side menu, select “Setting the transition.”
    • Here you can set the desired time to go to sleep and turn off the display, as well as change additional power settings.

    We learned how to configure the sleep mode on Windows 10 and change the time, we will show you how you can configure the wake-up mode for specific hardware.

    In my experience, the problem of going to sleep was one of the most popular, after the major updated Windows 10. Someone did not have this item, somewhere the PC flatly refused to fall asleep and errors of this kind, there were a great many on different devices. Let’s analyze the errors that may still be relevant and DO NOT require Special skills to solve this problem.

    Wake up the device (Windows 10) with keyboard or mouse embedding

    Using standard Windows settings, you can wake up the computer by pressing any button on the keyboard or by moving the mouse. Some users may find it inconvenient to wake up or both. Therefore, we will show you how you can customize the awakening.

    Other errors

    Most often, you may encounter an error, then when you wake up you see a black screen and it only helps to restart the PC after a long press of the power key. To solve this problem, you need to disable Fast Startup.

    • Go to the “Power Options” Taskbar.
    • In the side menu, click on “Power button actions”.
    • Click on “Change settings.”.
    • Then Disable “Fast Startup” and click Save Changes.

    This error usually occurs after updating WIndows. After disabling Fast Startup, Windows 10 will take a little longer to boot on startup and wake up.

    You can also update the video card driver or the chipset driver (ACPI driver) to solve the problem without disabling fast startup.

    Mouse wake up

    To configure Windows 10 hibernation, namely disable or enable mouse wake-up, follow these instructions:

    • Launch the Device Manager window. Click WinX and then select the desired value
    • Expand the list “Mice and other pointing devices”, select any from the list, click on it with RMB and click on “Properties”.
    • Open Power Management. The “Allow this device.” value will allow or deny waking the PC from sleep.

    But what to do if the device does NOT wake up from sleep, or, on the contrary, does NOT want to fall asleep. on this later.

    A real way to get rid of scammers who call and reset No sleep mode

    Often, users turn to the problem that hibernation does not work or disappeared in Windows 10, namely it is not among the shutdown list. Shutdown, Restart and Exit only. There is no trace of any sleep mode. There is only one explanation for such an error. the video card driver is to blame, which is responsible for putting it into sleep and hibernation.

    To fix this problem, do the following:

    • Launch Device Manager. In the Run window (WinR shortcut) enter devmgmt.Msc, then click OK. Alternatively, you can press WinX on your keyboard and search for “Device Manager”.
    • Next, you need to open the list of video cards and select a discrete video card there (on some devices there are 2 video adapters. built-in and discrete).
    • Right click on it now and find “Update driver”
    • Usually Windows system itself finds the latest driver in the updated center. If you have multiple video adapters, then you need to update for all devices.
    • If you could not find fresh drivers or this method did NOT help, then you need to update the drivers yourself. Go to the device manufacturer’s website and find them by your video adapter model.

    Then install the driver. In case of errors or crashes, it is recommended to perform a clean installation of the driver. Or through the installer settings (a clean installation item, in which the old driver is completely removed and a new one is installed) or through the Display Driver Uninstaller utility. Which can also uninstall and clean the video adapter driver for later installation.

    After installing the new driver, restart your PC and make sure Sleep Mode is now active.

    How to enter BIOS and choose to boot from a USB flash drive

    Over time, every computer owner needs to get acquainted with the BIOS, enter it and change some settings. Unfortunately, the BIOS on different devices is different, and if the operating systems on computers are more or less the same, then the BIOS may be different not only because of the manufacturer, but also because of the year of release. Each BIOS has a different menu, and the way to start it differs on different devices.

    The BIOS itself is a part of the system software that, when turned on, tests all devices for operability, checks the settings, and gives the operating system access to the computer’s hardware. In it, you can turn off devices, set the time, choose where to boot from (USB flash drive, DVD-Rom, hard drive), manage power supply and much more, but that’s another story. Today we analyze how to enter the BIOS and choose to boot from a USB flash drive or disk.

    I turn off the computer completely;

    In order to select a boot from a bootable flash drive. You need to insert it into the computer;

    Now, when you turn on the computer (laptop), you need to press a certain button on the keyboard. Typically, this is one of four buttons:

    • F1
    • F2
    • Del (Delete)
    • F10

    Also, when you turn on the computer for the first few seconds on the screen, you can see a hint which button you need to press to enter the BIOS.

    When you press THESE buttons, it may NOT open the BIOS, but the boot menu, which can please those who want to set the boot priority, but for those who want to choose other settings this option is not suitable.

    Or maybe nothing will happen, and the download will go on, then you need to turn off the computer again (or press restart) and press another button when turning it on.

    To find out which button to press, you can try to hold down several buttons at the same time, and at the bottom of the screen it will write which button to press to enter the BIOS. Or you can look at the table and find your device:

    Turning on the laptop for the first time

    Before using the laptop, you must first connect the power supply (adapter) to the corresponding connector in the laptop case. Have you connected? Now plug this power supply into an outlet. Both the adapter and laptop LEDs should light up. So, everything was done correctly. Hooray!

    Boldly opening the laptop lid. By the way, when opening, hold the laptop lid in the middle, or both corners at once. Otherwise, for example, when opening at one corner, the lid hinges may loosen over time, and this will NOT lead to anything good. This must be done with both hands. Hold the top cover in the middle with one hand and the bottom cover with the other. So you will reduce the load on the LCD matrix, which will significantly extend the life of the loop cable. It is also advisable to place the laptop on a hard and flat surface, so that the air flow will constantly flow to the ventilation grill

    You can work on a laptop without a mouse, using a touchpad (touch panel). But, believe my experience, it is still much more convenient to use a mouse that needs to be connected to any USB port.

    Find the power button, it is located just below the screen. As a rule, this is the center button, to the left and right of it there may be buttons for turning on the touchpad and Wi-Fi.

    Press the power button. The second (blue) indicator light will light up, the power button itself will light up.

    If you did everything correctly, the process of loading the operating system will begin: first, an image and an inscription will appear on the monitor screen, informing that Windows is starting. Then a bunch of different letters and numbers will flash before your eyes; then a “Welcome” window will open and at the end of this performance a window with a desktop will open in front of you with musical accompaniment.

    During the first boot, several windows may appear, in which you will need to enter some information. For example, the name under which you will work on the laptop, the preferred language (select Russian), time zone, etc.

    To check Swipe your finger across the touchpad, the cursor should move. If It does not respond, the touchpad is disabled. To turn it on, press the button next to the power button, a hand can be drawn on or next to the touchpad. In the off position, the touchpad button can be illuminated with an orange indicator. After entering all the data, the system will save them, you will see the Windows 7 desktop.

    Laptop ready to work.

    How to properly shut down your laptop

    There are several ways to shut down your laptop.

    • Traditional shutdown. Start. Completion of work. In Windows XP, the operating system specifies what action needs to be performed, and only after a second confirmation will turn off the laptop. In Windows 7, the PC will shut down without further questions. In this case, all open applications will be automatically terminated, the data will be saved. The shutdown itself will take about a minute, re-enabling it will take a few minutes, which will be needed to boot the operating system, check executable files with antivirus, etc.
    • Power off using the Power indicator button, which is usually located under the monitor. This button, if configured to shutdown, allows one short press to correctly turn off the laptop while maintaining all the parameters of the previous session.
    • Closing the laptop lid. With certain settings, closing the lid puts the PC into sleep mode. In this case, the work of programs may not be completed. After turning on (short press on the Power indicator button), the work of all unfinished programs will continue, with the exception, perhaps, of a network connection. When powered from the mains, the laptop can be in sleep mode for a long time, and if you constantly use it, then hibernation will allow you NOT to turn off the computer at all. If the battery runs out of power during sleep mode, the laptop will quit all applications and turn off automatically.
    • Shutdown using the CtrlAltDel key combination. The method is indispensable in cases where the laptop does not respond to user commands, that is, “freezes”. A single press of this combination brings up the Task Manager, a second press leads to a restart.
    • Forced disconnection of the laptop. This method cannot be considered correct, you have to use it when the laptop completely freezes, the keyboard locks up and does NOT respond to any user commands. Power off the laptop by long pressing the Power indicator button. As a last resort, you will have to disconnect the laptop from the network and remove the battery for a few seconds.
