You can independently choose in which programs the files will be opened
Perhaps these 8 simple tips will help you get up to speed with Files and learn more about it.
View and manage your files from any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Files makes it easy to find the files you want, no matter where they are stored or what device you are using.
Files brings all your files together. It is very convenient here to view, search and organize your files, located not only on the device you are currently using, but also in applications, in iCloud Drive storage and in other cloud services.
iPad as a flash drive
You can use your tablet as a storage device to transfer information. Although not very effective, it is possible. You will need to connect your gadget to your PC. In the File Explorer folder, open your tablet as a storage device. It will still be determined by the computer. Then you need to copy the necessary files and that’s it. This method is suitable for Windows.
On OS X, you need a third party application like iTools. Go to USB Disk. which is located in the File section, right-click, click “Import”. Done. You can use these files directly from your tablet only if it has been jailbroken. If not, then you can only transfer files like using a USB flash drive. Thrown in, moved, take out.
Previously, photos could only be saved to Photos, and text documents to Notes. But now you can create different folders for inspiring photos, PDFs of recipes, and more. In addition, the Files app can be connected to iCloud and Dropbox, and your documents will be synced across all devices.
Saving to Files on iOS 11 has also been improved. It’s enabled by default, offered as an option everywhere, and works much better than Save to iCloud on iOS 10. Files can even be dragged and dropped on iPad and instantly saved to the app.
View files on other devices
Follow the steps for the corresponding device.
- On your Mac, select Finder iCloud Drive.
- On iCloud.com go to the iCloud Drive program.
- On your PC with iCloud for Windows, go to iCloud Drive Explorer.
Drag and drop files to iPad
Sometimes the save options window just doesn’t pop up. Images on pages in Safari are a great example. In such cases, files can be simply dragged and dropped.
Step 1: Open the Files app on your iPad in Split View.
Step 2: Then, hold down the file you want to save and drag it to any folder in the Files app.
If the file has a suitable format (image, PDF, text document), it will be saved to your device.
How to free up space on iCloud?
Surprisingly, with Documents and Data, you can easily free up to one gigabyte of free space in iCloud. Again, go to “Storage and iCloud”. then “Manage”. Here you may learn a lot and understand why there is not enough space in the “cloud” for a new backup. So, for example, my iBooks files, which I have not used for a long time, took up almost half a gigabyte.
With 5 GB available on iCloud, an additional 0.5 GB is a breath of fresh air. And if you have a 16 GB iPhone, it is clearly worth trying to clean up “Documents and Data”.
The iOS operating system is not so simple. If you have just recently purchased an Apple gadget, then most likely you are wondering how and where files are downloaded to the iPad. Everything here is arranged differently than on a computer or Andriod. Don’t worry, you just need to figure it out. Then you can easily manage documents on iPad.
IOS is developed using sandbox technology. What gives a big plus to data protection is that of hackers and crooked users, but it also has its drawbacks. The downside is that the system has no folders and no file manager. Data extraction from the system is not possible.
If you look at it, the system still has a file manager, this is iCloud Drive. It is tied to the work of cloud storage. You can use standard storage and Yandex. Disk, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. Downloaded applications (third-party) after installation have their own “warehouse” in memory where downloaded documents are saved. Therefore, the entire workflow with files goes through the Documents folder for any individual application. In fact, any program is equipped with its own “sandbox”.
Using third-party software in Files
The Files app lets you add third-party cloud services such as Box, Dropbox, OneDrive, Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Drive, and more, so you always have access to all your files on all your devices. Files stored in iCloud Drive appear automatically in Files, but additional configuration is required to access files in other cloud services.
Sync via iTunes
To set up sync, you need to download and install an updated version of iTunes. Further, during installation, leave the checkbox in the item “create a shortcut on the desktop”, remove the rest. Also disable automatic syncing. To set up you need to register with the iTunes Store.
Sign up using your Apple ID. Uncheck the box next to “always sync if iPad is connected” in the “overview” section and then “options”. Now just drag and drop the required files to the desired sections. You can use Copy. Paste, “open with”
Samsung smartphone system memory
As I said, files can be located in different system folders while they are all accessible from Images or Videos. This approach of Samsung’s software shell offers quick navigation through the smartphone’s explorer. But if you want to search for files yourself, then select “System Memory”.
A standard explorer view of the Android system found in most modern smartphones will now be available. DCIM folder is a container for images, photos and videos.
The “Download” folder will contain files that are downloaded from the Internet. Most of the folders with the names of installed applications store their files, mostly the software cache. System folders can be found here.
All music will be included in “Music” if received via Bluetooth or transferred from PC.
Notifications stores ringtones for notifications and SMS. Some downloaded files are sometimes placed not in the Download folder, but in the general list of folders. Thus, you can find them below all the visible folders on the screen.
How to change the download folder
The device must have a folder where downloaded files are saved by default. And if you do not change any parameters, then they will accumulate in the “Downloads” or in the system folder “Download”. The user can configure the smartphone himself and specify where to download certain files. This is done through the browser you use on your mobile device.
You need to open the browser settings, find the section with downloads and select the path to save the data. In this case, you can create your own folders through the file manager. This function can also be selected from the application menu. Folders can be assigned any names in Russian and English.
What is a file manager and where to find “Downloads”?
First, you need to clarify what a file manager is and where the Downloads folder is on your Samsung. It is easier to understand what this application is for those who are more familiar with computer systems. For example, Windows has a fairly old and popular Total Commander.
In this program, it is easier to copy files and folders from one local drive to another. Samsung mobile devices have a built-in application so that users can access files on their phone.
The latest Samsung smartphones call this program “My Files”. The icon for starting the manager can be found on the main screen (desktop). If you run it, a window with several folders will open. As well as the main sections. System memory, memory card.
System memory is the main place where applications are installed, files are transferred from other devices, if the default settings have not been changed by the user.
The memory card serves as an additional means of storing data on the phone. It is sometimes needed when the system memory runs out. In the settings, you can change the path where files will be downloaded and applications installed.
Where are Downloads in Samsung
In order to find the files that have been downloaded from the Internet, you will need the phone’s file manager. On the home screen, find an app called “My Files” and run.
Here will be the main sections of the smartphone’s memory. And also the system partition with different folders. In the main window with file categories, select the “Downloads” icon. This is the folder where the downloaded data is stored. This is a system folder that cannot be gotten rid of. Even if you try to delete it, after a while the system will create the folder again.
By default, the built-in browser, as well as any additional download programs, will save all files downloaded from the network to it. The Downloads folder in Samsung smartphones serves only for this task.
But if the files got into the phone in another way (via Bluetooth, via a cable via a computer, etc.), then the files may be located in a different place. For example, you could manually move them to a memory card. In this case, you need to search in this section. The mobile phone can independently decide where to download files of a certain type.
Galaxy S20/S20: How to Find Downloaded Files On Samsung Internet
If the system has determined that the file is an installation package with the extension APK, then it will automatically sort it into a folder with the name “APK installation files”. If it is a video, then the file will go to the folder with this name. In the main menu of the file manager, template folders are created for faster file search. In fact, despite the file type, their location may vary.

Where to Find Downloads on Samsung Phone
From time to time we download different files to our smartphone. It can be music, films, archives, photos and videos. And all this is stored in the phone’s memory. Samsung mobile device owners will be told where to find the downloaded files.
Where to find the downloaded file
Files, ay! Every user of a personal computer at least once in his life downloaded a file from the Internet. It can be text, image, audio recording, video file. Having selected and downloaded the necessary information, an inexperienced user then looks for a long time for the place where the files are saved.
He looks through the contents of several dozen folders in the hope of finding the downloaded material, but, having wasted precious time. not a single file was found. he gives up this tedious task and comes to the conclusion that the download of the necessary material was not possible.
In fact, if during the download of files the system was operating normally and the anti-virus protection did not signal a threat of infection, and information about the completion of the download process appeared, then the file was downloaded successfully. Now you just need to find it.
As a rule, all novice users download information from the Internet using a browser. a program for viewing Internet pages. Most common browsers: Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari. advanced users use special programs to download files. However, both the browser and the program download the files by default to a specific location.
If the user downloads files using the Internet Explorer browser, which is by default included in the Windows operating system, then you need to search for the downloaded file as follows:
- for Windows XP: C: \ Documents and Settings \ Username \ My Documents \ Downloads,
- for Windows 7: C: \ Users \ Username \ Downloads.
It should be noted that these places are not very convenient for storing downloaded information, since they are located on the C drive, that is, in the same place as the operating system. In the event of a failure of its work and the need to reinstall, all contents of these folders will be permanently deleted. Optionally, in order to prevent this, you can create a special folder for all downloads and configure your browser to upload files to this particular folder.
Even before downloading the file in this browser, you can save the file to a convenient location by clicking on the “Save As” button. In the newly opened window, select the required folder and click “Save”. If the “Save” button was pressed right away, then the question: “Where was the file saved?”. you can decide as follows: go to the browser settings, select the line “View downloads”, and among the entire list of records uploaded at different times, you can find fresh information.
When using the Opera browser to download files, proceed in the same way. But with the Mozilla Firefox browser, the situation is a little more complicated. In this case, to search for the downloaded information, you need to find the “Tools” column in the browser menu, and in it select the “Downloads” line and find the required file in this window. Google Chrome saves the downloaded information in its control panel located at the bottom of the page, or you can find it in the list by selecting the “Downloads” line in the “Settings” item.
Temporary files and programs
If the file was downloaded using the Torrent program, then it can be found in the “My Documents” folder or in the “Downloads” folder, or you can independently set the location of the downloaded file by going to the program settings.
Almost all novice users are also interested in the question of where temporary files are stored. It will depend on their characteristics. For example, temporary files of any programs are automatically saved on the hard disk where the operating system is located: C drive. Documents and Settings folder. Username folder. Local Settings folder. Temp folder. This is if you have the installed Windows XP program. For Windows 7 and Windows Vista, the search will look a little different: drive C. folder “Users”. folder “Username”. “Local Settings”. “Temp”.
You can easily find temporary browser files by following the following chain: drive C: \ users \ Username \ Local Settings \ Application Data \ Browser name. If the file was never found, but at least a few words from its name remained in memory, then you can use the usual Windows search through the Start menu.
Use the pre-installed Downloads app
This method works for most Android devices. Chances are, if you go to the main menu of your mobile device, you will find an application called Downloads. The app provides direct access to the file download folder.
Where is the Downloads folder on an Android device?
So, you just downloaded the file on your Android device, but where did it go? There are several ways to find out where files are being downloaded on Android devices.
Use Android file managers
Another way to access your downloads folder is to use additional file manager applications, similar to those available for Mac or PC. Some Android devices come with pre-installed file managers.
However, if you don’t have a file manager, then you can download it from the Google Play Store. One of my favorite Android file managers is called Total Commander.
To find a list of all downloaded files using the file manager, simply open the application and go to the “Smartphone memory”, “Internal memory” or “SD card” section (sometimes the directory is called / sdcard).
After you have navigated to the required directory, you need to find a folder called Downloads. Open the folder and you will see a list of all downloaded files.
View downloaded files via computer
If you want to access the downloaded files through your computer, you need to connect your Android device to your Mac or PC using a USB cable.
After connecting a mobile device via USB, you will receive a notification on the computer screen with a brief instruction on how to access the smartphone memory.
Some Android devices ask for a way to use USB, such as charging, file transfer, photo transfer (PTP) or MIDI. You need to select File Transfer.
After successfully connecting your Android device to the computer, go to the directory of the internal memory or SD card and find the Downloads folder.
Where is music stored and downloaded on iPhone?
In order to find where the tunes are stored on a new smartphone, you need to have at least one melody on it.
- If you synchronized audio recording to iPhone using iTunes, then the downloaded file should automatically appear inside the “Music” application or iPod.
- Do not forget that the files transmitted via Bluetooth will be in the received.
- The files you downloaded from social networks will be located only inside the folders that you specified when saving to your phone.
But if you are interested in exactly where the music is stored in the iPhone, then you will need to open the files of your smartphone through the computer, namely through the path privatevarmobileMediaiTunes_ControlMusic. It is in the open folder that the music downloaded to you is stored. Do not forget that attempts to manually place music inside this folder will be in vain. Because when iTunes synchronizes audio recordings by transferring them to the phone, it specially encrypts them to avoid viruses.
Many iPhone users have a fundamentally misconception that downloading and viewing documents on an Apple smartphone is an extremely time-consuming and complex process. We decided to break this myth by demonstrating some of the features of the free Docs app by Readdle.
It was then that the Documents application appeared on the scene, and then in the shortest possible time became popular, with the help of which any iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch user can download any files in a convenient way. Convenient controls, sleek interface and superb speed of the application made it the most famous in its category. The application, of course, has competitors, but where can they compete with the power of Documents.
Documents from Readdle, as the app is now officially called in the App Store, supports a huge number of different file formats. The functionality of the application processes both text files and pictures, videos and archives. Directly from the application, you can search the document and edit it using a full-fledged editor.
You can upload documents to the application in three different ways. Let’s take a closer look at each of them.
What is “Documents and Data”?
On iOS devices, two types of “Documents and Data” are stored: the first is located directly on the device and takes up internal memory (cache and other application information), and the second takes. where the data of installed programs is also stored.
Sometimes “Documents and Data” of an application should not be touched. for example, in the case of Spotify, tracks available for offline listening will act as them, and in Navigator these are downloaded maps of the area. If you delete them, you will not be able to fully use the application. But there are some programs that do not need “Documents and Data” at all: the same. which, with a “weight” of 32 megabytes, can take up to one gigabyte of free space.
