The battery has stopped charging on an asus laptop

Check the battery status

You can check the battery status with the free Battery Health program for iOS or the standard Battery Care utility in devices running Windows 7 and 8.

An example of analyzing battery status in BatteryCare.

Three main parameters of battery health are important to us.

  • Declared nominal power. This is the capacity of the new battery when it just left the factory.
  • Maximum power. This is the current capacity value.
  • Battery wear percentage. The larger this value, the higher the need for replacement.

The problem of not reaching the required level is also solved by calibration.

Power problem

Perhaps the most common problem is a power failure. Start checking this version from the wall outlet. To do this, you can simply connect the laptop power supply to another, obviously working, outlet. and, perhaps, the problem will be resolved by itself. If this did not happen, and the food has nothing to do with it, we continue to search.

In the event that the laptop is connected to a surge protector (or as it is commonly called a tee), then disconnect the power supply from the surge protector and connect the laptop directly to an outlet. It is possible that the tee is malfunctioning and therefore does not charge the laptop. You can also check the socket in a fairly simple way. plug in your phone or any other device and check if the socket is performing its function.

Work from an external source

In the event that the laptop works only from the mains, you should follow all the above procedures, and if all else fails, you will have to change the battery. You cannot charge a laptop without charging, since some device that produces 17-19 volts must be present in any case. You can charge a laptop battery from a car cigarette lighter, but for this you need to have a supply voltage converter. On the road, this compact and inexpensive device can provide a useful service.

You can charge the battery of your mobile device from the solar battery. In some countries, this gadget is very popular. You can turn on your laptop without a battery by using a separate external power supply. Such batteries have a large capacity and can provide a mobile device with power for a long time. Companies that produce smartphones, such as Lenovo with a powerful battery, equip their models with batteries with a capacity of 4000 mAh, which allows you to use the device for a long time without recharging.

If the battery on the tablet is quickly discharging, remember that you do not need to leave the gadget in standby mode if you do not use it for a long time. You need to remove all applications that may be in “startup”, reduce the screen brightness to 60%, disable synchronization, sound alerts and optimize Wi-Fi.

Problem: The laptop battery has stopped charging

It happens that a device that used to charge normally stopped doing it at some point. The laptop is working and the battery is connected correctly but not charging. This is confirmed by the absence of an inscription when you hover the mouse over the battery status icon in the tray. There are three ways to solve the problem.

Diagnostics of programs on a laptop

If the diagnostic utility shows no significant wear on the battery in step 1, then the battery is probably not the direct cause of the drop in battery life. The culprit of the fast discharge may be some program you recently installed that runs in the background and prevents the processor and Wi-Fi chip from going into economic mode.

Open the Task Manager by pressing CtrlShiftEsc and analyze the CPU usage of background programs. Sort applications in the list by CPU usage and watch for a while. Removing unnecessary programs running in the background will increase battery life.

Method 1. reset battery settings in BIOS

  • Disconnect the power supply. Unplug or unplug the AC adapter from the device.
  • Take out the battery. In models with a removable battery, and there are most of them, for this it is enough just to turn the device over and push back one or two locking devices that hold it.
  • Press the power button and hold it in this state for about a minute.
  • Insert the plug of the power supply into the laptop and connect it to the mains. In this case, you do not need to install the battery in place yet.
  • Turn on the laptop and enter its BIOS. To do this, at startup, press the key or their combination indicated in your user manual. Typical solutions: Del, F12 or F2.
  • Reset settings to preset value, Restore Defauts, and save BIOS settings, Save and Exit.
  • Turn off the laptop by holding the power button for 5-7 seconds.
  • Turn off the power supply again and replace the battery.
  • Insert the charging plug and turn on the power supply into the outlet.
  • We turn on the laptop in the usual way.

Battery connected, not charging (or not charging in Windows 10)

Perhaps the most common variant of the problem. in the status in the Windows notification area, you see a message about the battery charge, and in brackets. “connected, not charging”. In Windows 10, the message looks like “Charging not in progress.” This usually indicates a software problem with the laptop, but not always.

Removing unnecessary software

It so happens that the process of charging the battery is not controlled by the operating system, but by an additional application. Typically, these applications are preinstalled by the laptop manufacturer, but can also be installed by the user. The problem may lie in the incorrect operation of the program: for example, it contains certain settings for the battery resource, and it does not allow the battery to fully charge after a certain service life.

Or another option: there is a manufacturer’s utility that provides a “Best Battery Life” mode. In this mode, the battery may last you longer, but often the reason that the laptop does not charge lies here. In any case, modern operating systems are equipped with a reliable built-in charge control. Therefore, if you suddenly notice that the battery icon in the tray (the sector of the taskbar on the right side, where the clock and notification icons are) is different from the standard one, try to find the corresponding application and uninstall it. To do this, go to “Control Panel”. “Uninstall Programs” and carefully look at what programs are installed on your laptop.
