Those who control from the BIOS normally work may not read further. But often the BIOS only superficially adjusts the speed, and does not underestimate them to silent, and at the same time still acceptable values. Setting up SpeedFan
So we got to the settings. We press the “Configuration” button and first of all we will call all the sensors with clear names. In my example, I will programmatically control the processor cooler.
On the “temperatures” tab, we find the processor temperature sensor (I have Temp3) defined in the previous step and click on it first once, and then again a second later. now you can enter any name, for example “CPU Temp”. In the settings below, we enter the desired temperature, which the program will maintain with the lowest possible fan speed, and the alarm temperature at which the maximum speed is turned on.
I set 55 and 65 degrees respectively, but this is individual for each, experiment. At a very low set temperature, the fans will always rotate at maximum speed.
Next, expand the branch and uncheck all the boxes, except the Speed0X, which regulates the FanX of the processor (we have already defined this earlier). In my example, this is Speed04. And also uncheck all other temperatures that we DO NOT want to see in the main program window.
On the fans tab, we simply find the necessary fans, call them whatever you want, and turn off unnecessary ones.
Let’s go further to the “Speeds” tab. We go to that Speed0X, which is responsible for the required cooler, rename it (for example, CPU Speed) and set the parameters:
- Minimum. the minimum percentage of the maximum revolutions that the program can set
- Maximum. respectively the maximum percentage.
I have a minimum of 55% and a maximum of 80%. It’s okay that the program will NOT be able to set the value to 100%, because on the “temperature” tab, we set the alarm threshold, at which 100% of the revolutions will be forced. In principle, that’s all. Now we go to the main SpeedFan window and put a tick “Autospeed of the ventilators” and enjoy the automatic adjustment of the rotation speed.!
Launch and appearance of the program
Download and install the app from the official website.

Then SpeedFan reads the parameters of the microcircuits on the motherboard and the values of the sensors. Block “1” contains a list of detected cooler rotation speed sensors with the names Fan1, Fan2., and their number may be more than it actually is (as in the picture). Pay attention to the values, for example Fan2 and the second Fan1 have real indicators of 2837 and 3358 RPM (revolutions per minute), and the rest are zeros or with garbage (in the picture 12 RPM is garbage). We will remove the excess later.
The block “2” displays the detected temperature sensors. GPU is the graphics chipset, HD0 is the hard drive, CPU is the central processing unit (instead of the CPU in the Temp3 picture), and the rest is junk (can’t be 17 or 127 degrees). This is the disadvantage of the program, that you need to guess where what (but then we ourselves will rename the sensors as needed). True, you can download known configurations on the site, but the procedure is not an easy one and is complicated by the English language.
If it is not clear which parameter is responsible for what, then you can look at the values in some other program to determine the parameters of the computer and sensors, for example AIDA64 and compare with the topic that the SpeedFan program has determined, in order to know exactly where what speed and temperature readings are (in the video under the article I’ll show you everything).
And in block “3” we have speed adjustments Speed01, Speed02., with which you can set the rotation speed in percent (it can be shown as Pwm1, Pwm2., see the video for more details). For now, we need to determine which Speed01-06 affects which FanX. To do this, we change the values of each from 100% to 80-50% and see if the speed of any Fan has changed. Cooler management software SpeedFan
It is multifunctional and completely free program. Probably I will immediately upset a little, I said that this program does not work in all laptops, but you can try it, And it will not regulate the speed of those fans that the motherboard cannot control from the BIOS. For example, from my BIOS, you can enable the SmartFan cooler control function for the CPU only. Although you can watch the current turnover for two more. There is another program to control the laptop cooler.
Otherwise, the following situation may occur. At the moment of loading the SpeedFan program, the current revolutions are read and taken as maximum. Accordingly, if by this time the BIOS does NOT spin the fan to maximum speed, then the program will NOT be able to do this either.
It happened to me once that at the moment of loading the program the cooler on the processor was spinning at 1100 rpm, and SpeedFan could not set a higher value. As a result, the processor warmed up to 86 degrees! And I noticed this by chance, when at the time of heavy load I did NOT wait for the noise from the fan. Fortunately, nothing burned out, but the computer could no longer turn on.
The SpeedFan program has a bunch of functions and parameters, but I will not go into them, because This is a topic for a separate article. Let’s put a few more necessary checkboxes on the “Configuration” tab. Options “

It is recommended to lubricate such bearings periodically. Ordinary automobile lubricants “Litol” or “Solidol” are suitable in an amount NOT more than a match head. To lubricate such a bearing, you need to disassemble the laptop and dismantle the cooler, and then carefully remove the fan impeller together with the axis from the slots. You need to act carefully, tucking the plastic impeller housing on both sides with small screwdrivers. If done correctly, the part can be removed even with little effort.
However, such a solution is a temporary “Crutch”, which is effective not for a couple of pains. If the cooler can no longer cope with the increasing loads, it is recommended to replace it with a more powerful one. You can also use a special stand for additional cooling.
The hardware way to increase the fan speed is to install a reobass. This is a special rheostat, with one connector connected to the motherboard, and the other to the cooler cable. By changing the supplied voltage with a regulator, the laptop owner controls the speed of rotation of the impeller.
However, this method is only suitable for coolers that are powered by a 4-pin header on the motherboard. 3-pin, which are also widely used in portable PCs, do not have this option. The cost of a good reobass with an indicator is about 10.

Overclocking the cooler via BIOS
All modern motherboards allow you to monitor and control the operation of the cooling system. This is done using Special Drivers that come with the laptop. If the oregano installed on your PC has this feature, you can overclock the fan through the BIOS. This is done as follows:

The appearance of the Hardware Monitor subsection may differ slightly in different BIOS versions. However, knowing what to look for, you can easily complete the Required settings:
- The fan speed is set in the line CPU Min.FAN speed (CPU FAN speed or CPU FAN Control)
- Activation of intelligent operation of the cooling system is triggered by the CPU Q-Fan Control item (you must set the Enable value)
- The CPU Fan Profile line is responsible for selecting the intelligent mode. Here you can choose one of four modes: Silent (silent operation of the cooler is preferred), Standard (the fan will operate at 50% of its power), Turbo or Performance (overclocked to maximum power);
- The CPU Temperature line indicates the processor temperature that the cooling system will try to maintain.
