Replacing the Keyboard on an HP laptop. Replacing the keyboard on an HP Pavilion laptop
Replacing the keyboard on HP Pavilion notebooks is fairly straightforward. In the event of a breakdown that is impossible or does not make sense, substitution is a balanced option for restoring the device’s performance.
Substitution will help in cases of physical damage to the keyboard, refusal of the results of corrosive phenomena, unstable operation from significant wear and other situations.
Part numbers (p / n) marking located on the back of the module will help you find the desired element. This is a unique spare part code assigned by the manufacturer. Matching numbers in the old and newest keyboards guarantees comparability.
Replacing and repairing keyboard in HP laptop
Replacing the keyboard on a laptop HP does not ask for special expenses, it happens within 30 minutes. The price of the keyboard for each laptop depends on the model.
In a laptop, the keyboard plays a significant role. With the help of it the user can type texts in text editors, type some necessary information into his own digital medium. The keyboard itself, if considered as an assembly, is a removable component of any laptop, including Hewlett Packard.
The keyboard has many buttons, any of them carries extraordinary information and when pressed, the information is displayed on the monitor. The keyboard refers to the elements of interaction between the computer and the user. Thus, you can realize that it is unrealistic to use a laptop without it.
The keyboard of each HP laptop or netbook differs in function, composition of buttons, thickness, size. Unfortunately, the user often interacts with the keyboard, which means the possibility of breakdown of this unit is very high. Indeed, sometimes it happens that laptop owners spill different water on the keyboard, break buttons, and foreign objects get inside it. All of these prerequisites interfere with the normal operation of the keyboard, and sometimes make it impracticable. Typically, Hewlett Packard keyboard breakdowns are caused by improper use by the owner.
For example, if you spill liquid on the keyboard, it becomes unusable, and sometimes the liquid damages other more fundamental parts of the computer. In order that no matter what you have to throw out the laptop after such use, then after water gets in, you need to immediately remove the battery and wipe the liquid with a napkin or rag.
It also happens that the keyboards fail as a result of strong blows to it. With all this, buttons, electric tracks and so on break. If foreign objects get into the keyboard, this in most cases leads to sticky buttons. In this case, the button is pressed, but does NOT return to the initial position, repeatedly repeating the entered information.
In this case, repairing an HP laptop keyboard, for example, will cost several hundred rubles.
Least of all, the keyboard board itself, loops and more fail. As a rule, this may be due to the long-term operation of the laptop, or for some other reason.
The procedure should be one hundred percent de-energize the laptop by disconnecting the power adapter and battery. Otherwise, there is a chance to arrange a short circuit and destroy the sensitive components of the system.
- Remove the service cover at the bottom of the housing. It is fixed with one screw. After unscrewing it, you need to push the cover with the latch of the battery pack. The cover will come out of the grooves and can be removed.
- Under it, next to the rear edge, there is a ledge of the optical drive housing. Turn it out, and then gently press on the ledge. The drive will come out of the grooves and can be removed by pulling on the outer panel.
- Unscrew the two screws holding the keyboard (marked with the proper pictograms).
- Raise the Computing unit of the device 34-40 degrees so that it rests on the cover with the screen.
- The optical drive bay will have a technological hole. The keyboard is located above it. It should be carefully pressed so that it comes out of the grooves.
- Now you can turn the device over and open it one hundred percent.
- The keyboard is NOT fixed anymore. It should be gently lifted, turned over and placed on the touch panel.
- The ribbon cable is held in the connector by a small clip. If you lift it up carefully, the cable will come out of the connector. On models with a backlit keyboard, you will need to disconnect the additional connector.
- Now the old keyboard can be removed and put aside.
To complete the installation of the newest keyboard, just complete all the above operations in reverse order.
After connecting the newest keyboard, but to the final assembly, it is better to test its performance by temporarily connecting the power supply. If problems are found, you should check the correctness of the loop connection.
What are the values of the keys from F1 to F12?
The keys F1 through F12, known as function keys, can have many different uses. It all depends on the operating system installed on the computer, software and programs open at the moment. Most programs can use Not only a specific function key, but also combinations of them with the CTRL and ALT keys and others. For example, Microsoft Windows users can press “ALT F4” to close the currently active program.
Below is a list of Some basic meanings of the F1-F12 function keys in Windows operating system.
Note: not all programs support function keys, and may perform other actions than those shown below.
- Almost always this key performs the function of calling the Help window.
- Entering CMOS / BIOS settings (when booting the computer).
- Windows F1 will open the Help and Support window.
- In some cases opens the Taskbar.
- Usually used to rename a selected file, folder or shortcut.
- “Alt Ctrl F2” opens the “Open Document” window, for example in Microsoft Word.
- “Ctrl F2” displays a preview window in Word.
- Entering CMOS / BIOS settings.
- Usually opens the ability to search in programs.
- On MS-DOS or Windows Command Prompt, the F3 key will repeat the last command.
- In Microsoft Word, the “Shift F3” key combination will change case from upper to lower case or the first letters in each word.
- Open search box.
- Redo Last Action (Word).
- Alt F4 will close the active program.
- “Ctrl F4” will close open windows within the current active window.
- In all modern internet browsers, refresh the site page or document window.
- Opens a Find and Replace window, for example in Word.

- “Ctrl Shift F12”. Print a Word document.
- Previewing a page in Microsoft Expression Web.
- Opening FireBug in Firefox browser and opening developer tools in Google Chrome.
Interesting: Previously, computers from IBM (one of the world’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of hardware and software) also had the F13-F24 keys on the keyboard. However, such keyboards are no longer used.
Specify the question, in which program, what do you mean by “disable support”? You mean the F1 key?
“I do not understand and F12”
We, too, do not understand what you are talking about, explain in more detail and understand your situation so that we can at least somehow help.
This article was written solely for educational purposes, since many novice computer users do not use them, and do not even know what they are for. And those who know just don’t go to this page.
Notebook? Most likely, you do not have laptop drivers installed or have failed, reinstall them from the disk or download from the manufacturer’s official website.
This is the Wi-Fi symbol, with this key (together with Fn) you can disable and enable Wi-Fi
Function keys on a laptop keyboard are almost always present. If we are talking about equipment produced by well-known manufacturing brands. Acer, Lenovo, ASUS. Consider what each is responsible for. There are 12 function keys in total. They are located above all the others. Examine what they are responsible for.
The F1 key is almost always programmed to invoke help. In the operating system or in some separate program. This function can be said to be the same for all PC models. The keyboard is used for a laptop HP, Lenovo, or, ASUS. No difference. In some cases, if the built-in help file is not provided by the program, pressing F1 can command the computer to load the software manufacturer’s website with the necessary information.
Traditional F2. Laptop keyboard keys or “desktop” to rename the selected file or folder.
The F3 button in most cases is responsible for calling the Windows search engine. Downloading its common interface, using which you can search for files all over the computer, or local. In a separate window. If the folder is open. Then the search will be conducted by the objects located in it, if the browser window is active or, say, Word, then by the text on the page.
The F4 key is mainly adapted for using third-party file wrappers. Such as, for example, Total Commander. Its usefulness in Windows is estimated by many experts as not obvious for centuries. But you can argue with this opinion: I pressed F4, say, in the browser, you can open the address term. It is faster than a similar action with a mouse.
The F5 key is used to quickly refresh the contents of the application window, desktop, or Windows Explorer. At the same time, its use in third-party file shells, as a rule, is completely different. For example, in Total Commander using this key on the laptop keyboard or “desktop” moving files and folders.
The F6 key has approximately the same functionality as the F4 key. True, in this case, as a rule, the list with the history of sites in the address bar of the browser is not activated.
Some buttons on the laptop keyboard and “desktop”. F7, F8, F9, and F12 do not have a strong functional binding. Depending on the specific program, or the model of the device, they can be programmed for different commands. This is exactly the case when we can observe the dissimilarity of technologies used by brands-manufacturers of equipment or programs.
In turn, the meaning of the keys of the laptop keyboard or “desktop” F10 and F11 are fairly standardized. When it comes to using them on Windows. The F10 button is responsible for opening the application menu. F11 is usually programmed to switch windows from normal to full screen and vice versa.
The functions of the keys on the laptop keyboard have distinctive specifics: as a rule, actions are programmed in them, implying their combination with a specific Fn button, which is on the keyboard “desktops” in most cases it is absent. Now we will consider the features of working with them.
Hotkeys and WIN button
In most cases, the buttons on the laptop keyboard or “desktop” contain the WIN key. This button looks like a proprietary Microsoft checkbox. It is, in a way, adapted to the Windows operating system. By the way, it was introduced into the structure of keyboards recently (if we compare it with the evolution of the development of the corresponding hardware component of the PC). In 1995, after Windows 95 entered the market. Secondly, it is usually not Functional. Although, this is not always the case. In many modern open source operating systems, the WIN button functions are fully implemented. Still, the trend reflecting the standardization of technologies is typical not only for the hardware field, but also for software. Let’s consider what possibilities are opened by using the WIN key in combination with other buttons.
If you press the combination of WIN and UP, you can expand the active application window to full screen. In turn, if you replace UP with DOWN in this combination. The window will collapse or return to its original size. Pressing WIN and arrows “to the left” the active window is moved to the left of the screen. If you press the button “to the right”, then the window will move in the same direction. The combination of WIN and HOME allows you to simultaneously minimize, or expand all windows, except for the one that acts as an active one. With the combination of WIN and E, you can open Windows Explorer. You can enlarge or reduce the image on the screen by using the combination of WIN and the “” or “-“. The combination of WIN and F starts the file search system.
Laptop keyboard: key assignment. Hotkeys
Traditional keyboard. Laptop, or, “desktop”, despite the dominance and universal prevalence “sensors” on smartphones and tablets. When using Which, people, at times, begin to forget what the keys are. A subject that is in widespread demand. Stylish and ergonomic keyboard. A welcome detail of the computer interior of any IT enthusiast.
Ease of use of the corresponding PC hardware component, not just its appearance. Also an important criterion for the comfort of the computer owner. Keyboard. It is, historically, the first PC control; the mouse was later invented. And later, the device keys. Especially in combination with others. By default, a very efficient and functional tool in the hands of the user. There is a version that technological features “desktops” and laptops predetermine some difference between the capabilities of keyboards, with the help of which the corresponding types of devices are controlled.
Does the type of computer keyboard matter in terms of key functionality? Is there a difference between the standardization policies in this aspect carried out by different laptop brands? What keyboard shortcuts can we highlight as Most useful?
Almost all keyboards designed for PCs in the IBM architecture and running under Windows, and therefore in laptops too, have so-called “Hotkeys”. They are designed to quickly activate some hardware or software function of the OS, which is usually longer and more difficult to call using mouse actions. Consider the range of the most popular features that give “Hotkeys” in Windows 7. One of the most popular operating systems today. Note that the combinations of buttons that we will give below work if we have any device for data input at our disposal. “Desktop” option, or, the keyboard of an ASUS laptop. Button assignment “hot type”, in general, it is the same on all devices. Provided, of course, that Windows is installed on them.
The keys on the laptop and “desktop”: comparison
The fundamental difference between how a laptop keyboard is structured and “desktop”, usually not observed. This is understandable. Computer makers strive to release Appropriate controls, Adhering to standards so that people are more willing to buy technology, rather than fearing that they will have to adapt their skills to the new key layout. It is worth noting, however, that this thesis is true if a computer in the most popular architecture today is taken into consideration. IBM PC. There are other standards for PC hardware and software layout. Such as, for example, Macintosh.
ALT keyboard shortcuts
One of the basic keyboard buttons used to activate various functions in “hot” mode. ALT. What possibilities are opened by pressing it in combination with other keys? Among the most notable features. Activation, or, DEACTIVATION of the file panel: for this you need to use the combination of ALT and P.
The combination of ALT and TAB allows you to quickly navigate between windows of active applications running in Windows. The ALT key in combination with the UP button allows you to climb higher in the structure of open windows with folders. The combination of ALT and F4 closes the active application window, or exits the program or computer game. The combination of ALT and space allows you to open the context menu of the running window.
Therefore, it does not matter, provided that we are talking about the same platform that we have at our disposal. Buttons in “desktop” option or laptop keyboard. The key assignments will be almost the same in all cases. However, there are still nuances. They are largely due to, first of all, the difference in size “desktop” and laptop. At the disposal of the user of an ordinary PC, as a rule. The whole table. It can accommodate a very large keyboard. In the most daring design formats. Another thing. Laptop keyboard. The purpose of the buttons on it, although almost the same as on “desktop”. The buttons have to be placed extremely compactly. As a result, the laptop manufacturer may decide to, in principle, remove some groups of keys.
Does the labeling of keys on a laptop keyboard differ from one brand to another? For the most part, there is. And this is also largely due to the marketing factor: the brand-manufacturer wants users, relatively speaking, to get used to what is at their disposal. Laptop keyboard “Lenovo”, could easily adapt to similarly hardware component from ASUS and vice versa. Differences, if any, they usually lie in the design of the buttons, their height, shape, color, material of manufacture. The keyboard for Acer laptop is thus almost identical to counterparts from ASUS, HP, Dell and other brands, based on the purpose of the buttons.
However, it will be useful to know the key features of the distribution of functions associated with specific keys. Never mind. These are buttons adapted for “desktop”, or the laptop keyboard is being studied. Assignment of keys of functional groups, especially in combination with others. A very interesting area of studying the capabilities of the computer. So let’s start by examining the respective types of buttons.
Let’s note the most important nuance. All the above-described patterns in the aspect of keyboard shortcuts are fully functional when working in Windows. If the user has a different operating system at his disposal. For example, Linux or Google OS, then there may be discrepancies in the aspect of binding key combinations to certain functions. At the same time, as many IT experts note, technology universalization is observed Not only at the hardware level. With regard to the assignment of keys (we said about this at the beginning of the article), but also in the programmatic direction. That is, if we talk about the latest versions of the OS, other than Windows, then in many of them implementation algorithms “hot” functions or the use of, say, the WIN keys, are similar to the theme (if at all identical) that are present in the world’s most popular operating system.
Also note that historically Windows. NOT the first operating system for which the keys we studied today were adapted. By the time this OS entered the market, the keyboard with the location of the functional and other buttons. Identical to how we see them now, or in a very similar way. They have existed for more than a decade. So, it is more fair to say that the functionality of many keys is dictated not only by the leadership of Windows, but also by historical prerequisites.
The Fn key on a laptop is usually highlighted in a Separate color. For example, white or blue. So that the user can easily find it on the keyboard. There are usually one or two such keys on the device. Pressing Fn in its pure form, as a rule, does not imply any function. But its combination with function keys is programmed for a large number of useful actions. The exact one depends on the brand of laptop. An ASUS laptop keyboard may therefore differ in terms of Fn key activation from a similar hardware element in Lenovo or Acer devices. However, experts identify several common patterns for all computers in relation to the use of the capabilities of Fn. Consider them.
Combined with the F1 key, the Fn key can, for example, instruct the computer to shutdown (power off). This saves time when comparing this operation with a similar procedure carried out using a mouse.
In combination with the F2 key, the Fn key in some cases allows you to call up a window for settings related to energy saving. This option can be useful if, for example, it was found that the laptop is running out of battery power, and it urgently needs to be switched to another, more economical mode of operation.
The Fn key on a laptop in combination with the F3 button can be responsible for turning wireless interfaces on and off. For example Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This is useful if, for example, the computer case has hardware switches that can be used to perform similar actions.
When used in conjunction with the F4 button, the Fn key is typically programmed to tell the computer to go to sleep (no power off). In some laptop brands, this combination is also responsible for “awakening” computer.
Using a combination of Fn and F5 on most models of technology, you can activate or deactivate the video signal output to an external display connected via a wired interface to the video card. over, on many laptops, this is the only way to carry out this kind of action using the hardware method. An alternative can be a rather long procedure for outputting a video signal using software settings.
Turning off the monitor usually allows a combination of Fn and F6 or F7. This key assignment is useful if, for example, the user decided to leave the computer for a while. In this case, you can save electricity by turning off the display.
Quite a useful combination. Fn and F8. It allows you to enable or disable the sound on the computer (in this case, the current sound level is not reset. After pressing this combination again, the settings are restored). This key assignment is useful if, for example, someone called a person on the phone, he urgently needs to answer, and loud music is playing on the PC.
Many laptops have the Touch Pad temporarily disabled. A built-in touch-type device that performs similar functions to a mouse. This action can be performed by pressing the combination of Fn and F9.
If you use a combination of Fn and F10, you can change the keyboard layout. This is useful if, for example, more familiar keys do not work for some reason.
If the laptop has a numeric keypad (usually located on the right), then you can activate or deactivate it by using the combination of Fn and F11.
The combination of Fn and F12 can be programmed for a fairly wide range of actions, depending on the specific computer model. An HP laptop keyboard may include a similar hardware component from Acer. Other. In some cases, this combination implies some programmatic action. For example, activating the function of moving the screen, which works, in particular, in Excel.
Also note that the Fn key can be programmed for any function in combination Not only with the buttons with the index F, but also in combination with the usual ones located below on the keyboard. Again, it all depends on the device model. ASUS laptop keyboards may have their own rules; for Lenovo they may be completely different. For example, in some device models, the combination of Fn and a key on which the number 1 (and an exclamation mark) is displayed can adjust the brightness level of the display. The combination of Fn and the button with the number 2 (@ sign) can in turn control the sound volume.
So we have studied what features the laptop keyboard is characterized by, the purpose of the functional type keys. Let’s move on to the study of the most interesting category of buttons. They’re called “hot keys”. What are their features?
The laptop keyboard adopts standard QWERTY key layout with the addition of dedicated function keys and an embedded numeric keypad for intensive numeric input. Your keyboard has two specific Windows 95 keys. These keys provide the ability to take advantage of many of the time-saving features of Windows 95 software.
QWERTY layout means placing alphanumeric keys on the keyboard in the same sequence as in standard typewriters. There are some keys like Scroll Lock, Print Screen, etc., whose functions may not be familiar to you. This chapter introduces some of THESE keys and discusses their function when working in the disk operating system DOS or other application programs such as word processors or database management programs.

Home, End, PageUp, PageDown and arrow keys
As noted above, the Home, End, PageUp, PageDown, up, down, left, and right arrows are called cursor keys. Clicking on them, as a rule, leads to moving the cursor in the required direction or to “flipping” what is on the screen.
Pressing the Home key moves the cursor to the beginning of the line.
Pressed the End key, users will move the mouse cursor to the end of the line.
Pressing the Page Up key scrolls through the contents of the screen, for example, when editing a document one page up. If you click on Page Down”), you can move the mouse cursor down to the whole page.
Caps Lock, Tab, Esc
1) The Caps Lock key (translated as “fixing uppercase letters”) is located on the left of the keyboard.
If you do not click on the Caps Lock (i.e. the light is off) and go into a text editor (for example, Word or Notepad), then when entering text, all letters (both English and Russian) will be displayed in small.
If you press the Caps Lock (the light, more precisely, the indicator light is on), then when you enter text, the letters will be displayed in uppercase (large). In this mode, when you press the Shift key, lowercase (small) letters will be displayed (the exact opposite of what is done in normal mode when the Caps Lock light is off).
Caps Lock mode (or Uppercase mode) is useful for entering text with these letters. To enter one large letter is more convenient, of course, press the Shift key, and, do not release it, press the key with the image of the corresponding letter.
The Tab key is located above the Caps Lock key. When editing texts Tab is usually used to move to the next tab stop, that is, after pressing Tab, the cursor moves immediately by a specified number of positions. In second programs, its functionality can change, for example, Tab can switch between query fields, etc.
The Esc key (Escape. “run away, rescue”) is located above the Tab key and is mainly used to cancel an action.
The meaning of some keys on the keyboard
Let’s consider the meaning of Some keys on the keyboard: Caps Lock, Tab, Esc (Escape), Num Lock, Del (Delete), Ins (Insert), Scroll Lock, Home, End, PageUp, PageDown, up, down, left and to the right.
Switching modes on and off
In the upper right corner of the 101-key keyboard, there are three indicator lights (in other words, three lights):
- Caps Lock. Caps mode,
- Num Lock. number lock mode,
- Scroll Lock. scroll lock mode.
Enabling and disabling the above modes occurs by pressing the keys of the same name: Caps Lock, Num Lock (abbreviated as Num Lk), Scroll Lock (abbreviated Scr Lk).
In laptops with fewer keys, the Caps Lock key is located in the same place as the 101-key keyboard. The Num Lock key is usually with F11, and the Scroll Lock key is with F12.
To switch to Num Lock or Scroll Lock mode, press the Fn key, which is located in the lower left corner, and, Do not release it, press the Num Lock or Scroll Lock key, depending on which mode is required.
Let’s take a closer look at these three modes.
The Insert or Ins key is typically used to toggle between two character entry modes:
- Split character input (insert mode) and
- Input from the replacement of previously typed characters, that is, new text is entered, while the “old” text is automatically erased (replacement mode).
In MS Word 2007, the insert / replace mode is disabled by default. Apparently, this was done on purpose, since an accidental pressing of the Insert key led in earlier versions of Word to the fact that the replacement mode was turned on when the old text was deleted, and a new one was entered instead.
To enable insert / replace mode in MS Word 2007, click the Office button (round in the upper left corner). In the window that opens, click the button “Word options”. Then select the tab “Additionally”, In chapter “Editing options” check the box next to “Use INS key to toggle insert and replace modes”.
Computer literacy with Hope. Scroll Lock
3) Scroll Lock (on the keyboard, top right). was widely used in the early 80s, when there was no mouse manipulator.
When the “Scroll Lock” mode was turned on, the cursor keys performed the function of moving the screen (up, down, left, right).
When the Scroll Lock mode is disabled, then the cursor keys work in the usual mode for us. changing the position of the cursor (up, down, left, right). Now you can see the action of this button, for example, in Excel spreadsheets. If you start Excel and press Scroll Lock, then the cursor keys will move the table, and not a separate selected cell.
In general, the Scroll Lock key in different programs can work as it will be programmed.
Num Lock, Del (Delete) and Backspace
2) The Num Lock key (translated as “fixing numbers”) on the keyboard is a case.
It is responsible for the operation of the small numeric keypad in two modes: if the Num Lock indicator is on (i.e. you pressed the Num Lock key), then the small numeric keypad operates in the mode of entering numbers from 0 to 9 and a period.
If the Num Lock indicator is off, then the small numeric keypad is operating in cursor control mode (up, down, right, left, Home, End, PageUp, PageDown arrows). Read more in the Num Lock key here.
The Delete or Del key is typically used to delete characters located at the cursor.
