How to turn on Wi-Fi on a dell laptop

Enabling Wi-Fi on your laptop

In this tutorial, I will show you how to turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop. We will learn how to connect to and configure wireless Internet.

By switch

Some laptop models have a dedicated button to turn the module on and off. This is done in order to save battery power.

Examine the device from different angles. The button can be located both on the front panel and on the side.

Click on it to turn it on. If it is in the form of a switch, then slide it to the other side (to the “On” position). The indicator should light up and the wireless icon in the tray should appear.

In rare cases, the front panel may have a sensor to control the device.

Via BIOS

In rare cases, the module can be disabled in BIOS (computer control firmware). How to check:

  • When turning on the laptop / computer, press the dedicated key to enter the BIOS. Most often this is the Delete or F2 key.
  • Go to the configuration section and make sure “Wireless LAN” is set to “Enabled”.
  • Save the configuration and reboot.

Possible problems and solutions

An error occurs during connection

An error often occurs if the password on the router is periodically changed. In this case, you need to “forget” the current network by right-clicking on it and reconnect.

If that doesn’t work, try resetting the network settings as follows:

Enter cmd in the Start menu and run the application as administrator.

Type netsh winsock reset. press Enter.

The network settings will be reset. Reboot and try to reconnect.

wireless network connection

After successfully setting up and activating the Wi-Fi device, you need to connect to a wireless router to access the network.

Click on the network icon. The laptop will display a list of available access points. Click on the name of your wireless network and click “Connect”.

Enter the network key (password) and press Enter.

If the connection is successful, the tray icon will change to or. Open your browser and try to launch any website.

Using a proprietary utility

Sometimes there may be no shortcut keys for turning on the network. For such devices, a proprietary management utility is required, which can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. For example, consider two utilities: for Sony and HP laptops.

  • Open the utility from the Start Menu or System Tray
  • Slide the “Wireless LAN” switch to the “On” position.
  • Launch the application from the Desktop or from the Start menu.
  • To enable wi-fi, click on the special icon.

List of tips for solving the problem

Tip 1. Be sure to follow the correct order for installing the drivers on your Dell laptop. It turns out that the order in which the drivers are installed plays a very important role. If users followed the suggested guidelines, many problems could be avoided.

Advice 2. After the message appears (the text is given at the beginning of the article), press the FnF2 key combination. This will enable the Wi-Fi adapter to function.

Tip 3. Dell Inspiron n5030 (BIOS version. A02) displays an error message when installing wi-fi drivers. I try to press the FnF2 key combination, nothing happens. The problem turned out to be that this laptop configuration does not have a Bluetooth device. For this reason, I recommend everyone to check the availability of the appropriate equipment.

Tip 4. A similar problem with installing drivers on Wi-Fi / Bluetooth occurred on Dell Inspiron n5010 / n5110 laptops (Windows 7 64-bit operating system). This happened after updating the BIOS to version 12. The problem was solved as follows (without going back to the previous BIOS version):
1) Make sure Bluetooth is enabled in BIOS settings.
2) Remove Bluetooth device from Device Manager.
3) Manually add the required Bluetooth device from the list of available ones. For Dell Inspiron n5010 it was “dell bluetooth 365 module”.
4) Run the “setupbluetoothDFu” update from the unpacked folder of the R273948 driver.
5) Install the R273948 driver.
6) Restart your laptop.

Tip 5. The same error occurs on the Dell Inspiron n5050 laptop. A solution that may work for other Dell models is to activate Bluetooth in the Windows Mobility Center:
1) Press the “Windows key (Windows icon button) X” key combination to open the Windows Mobility Center. Alternative path “Start-Control Panel-Windows Mobility Center”.
2) In the “Customized by Dell” section, click the Launch button next to the “Radio Control Options”.
3) Make sure the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options are also enabled.

Bluetooth, as a medium for transferring large amounts of data, is practically not used due to the widespread use of Wi-Fi.

However, for connecting wireless mice, headsets, this technology is still widely used.

In today’s review, we will talk about how to turn on Bluetooth on a laptop.

At the very beginning, it should be mentioned that for the normal functioning of the Bluetooth wireless adapter, you should take care of installing the correct drivers.

The fact is that after reinstallation, the operating system installs the drivers automatically and often after installing such drivers, the device may not work correctly.

Therefore, you should take care of this and download them from the official website of the equipment manufacturer.

Setting up Bluetooth in Windows 8

To enable Bluetooth in Windows 8, you must:

  • Move the mouse cursor to one of the corners of the display and open the Charms-panel, then click “Options”.
  • Select “Change computer settings”, then select “Wireless network”.
  • In the control menu for wireless modules, you can enable wireless adapters, including Bluetooth.

In the menu that opens, go to the adapter properties and look at the warnings for errors.

Go to the “Driver” tab and note the developer (vendor) of the driver and the development date.

As shown in the example, the driver is 9 years old and it is desirable to deliver a newer version from the manufacturer.

Setting up Bluetooth in Windows 7

Turning on Bluetooth in Windows 7 is carried out either using proprietary utilities from the manufacturers of the wireless module, or using the icon in the notification area.

If you did not find the icon in the notification area, but you are sure that the drivers are installed, you can try one of the options below:

  • We go to the Start menu, in the search field we write “Devices and Printers” without quotes, go to the corresponding menu.
  • Right-click (RMB) on the Bluetooth adapter (the name may be different) and select the “Bluetooth settings” item in the context menu. In this menu, you can configure the display of the Bluetooth icon in the notification area, visibility mode, etc.
  • In the absence of such an item, go to the “Add device” menu, find the desired device in the list and connect it.
  • We go to the Start menu, in the search field, enter “Network and Sharing Center” without quotes, go to the corresponding menu.
  • In the left column, go to the item “Changing adapter parameters”.
  • Right-click on the “Bluetooth network connection” item, go to the “Bluetooth” tab, select the “Bluetooth settings” item. In the window that opens, go to the “Parameters” tab and in the “Detection” item, put the checkbox.

If there is no “Bluetooth network connection” item in the Network connections menu, you need to check for the driver.

To work with many Bluetooth-enabled devices, we recommend using the BlueSoleil program. This is a professional tool for pairing a computer or laptop with mobile and peripheral devices via the Bluetooth interface. Supports all Windows versions, most smartphones, microphones, printers, TVs.

Setting up Bluetooth in Windows 8.1

To enable Bluetooth in Windows 8.1, you must:

  • Move the mouse cursor to one of the corners of the display and open the Charms-panel, then click “Options” and “Change computer settings”.
  • Next, go to the “Computer and Devices” menu, then go to the “Bluetooth” submenu.
After selecting this menu, the wireless module will automatically start searching for available Bluetooth devices, also automatically making the laptop visible to other devices.

How to enable Bluetooth on Asus, HP, Dell, Acer laptop

I recently purchased a Dell Latitude E6410. It’s great, but I can’t get bluetooth to work.

I have enabled Bluetooth for the wireless switch in BIOS. However, whenever I try to install the bluetooth driver from the CD, I get the message:

activate bluetooth using a wireless switch.

this dialog only has a Cancel button. There is no Bluetooth icon on any function key and I have tried toggling what I assume will be a wireless switch (the switch that controls wireless internet on the right side of the laptop) to the on and off position to no avail.

Hardware enable Bluetooth on laptop

At the moment, most laptop manufacturers do not make a separate button for turning on Bluetooh and Wi-Fi, but combine the inclusion of both wireless modules with one button, or rather, with the Fn key combination, one of the function keys from F1 to A12.

Paying attention to the functional (from F1 to F12) keys of your laptop, you can find on one of them the wireless connection icon.

Almost all laptops have light indicators for the operation of wireless modules, and a lit indicator indicates that the adapter is on, otherwise there is no backlight.

Activity indicators are located by laptop manufacturers, as a rule, on one of the sides or front of the laptop.

It is quite rare that indicators are located directly near the touchpad or on the case of a laptop display.

Some HP notebook models have an indicator light built into the keyboard button (F12).

Below is a list of keyboard shortcuts that enable / disable the Bluetooth module for some laptops.

Asus, Dell, Gigabyte: Fn F2

HP: Fn F12

After enabling the wireless adapter at the hardware level, use the instructions above to connect Bluetooth devices from the operating system.

How to turn on Wi-Fi on a Dell laptop with a dedicated button or keyboard shortcut

On many Dell laptops, the manufacturer installs special switches to turn WI-FI on and off.

This is due to the high consumption of Wi-Fi battery power. They are usually located on the side or front of the case, although many do not have them at all, and the activation procedure is performed only by a keyboard shortcut: Fn F2 / Fn F8 or Fn F12.

For example, in the E6400, on the right side above the headphone port, look for the button, and in the Inspiron 1505, in the tray, right-click and turn on.

In the Inspiron 1525, you will see the wireless icon on the front of the laptop, and in the Inspiron 1720, it will be on the left side of the laptop.

Latitude D630, D640 and newer have a toggle switch on the left side of the front to enable WI-FI, while the Vostro 1500 has a large button on the back on the left side of the case.

How to check a dell laptop for a WI-FI driver

Without a WI-FI driver, it will not be possible to turn on any component of a laptop on Windows 7 or Windows 8.

It’s easy to check if it is installed on your dell. Open the device manager and expand the branch. “network adapters”.

In it you should see a WI-FI adapter. when installing the driver and restarting the laptop, it must appear.

Your name may differ from the one in the picture, but the word: “Wireless” is almost always found.

You can do otherwise. Open Network Sharing Center and click on the left side on Change adapter settings.

If you see a “block” with the name “wireless network connection” (there may be two of them in new Dell laptop models, the second for a virial router), then everything is openwork.

NOTE: if the adapter is displayed with a gray background, then it is disabled and must be enabled by right-clicking on it.

If you have the driver or you have just installed it, but it was not possible to turn on WI-FI, then proceed to the next step.

Wi-Fi not working on Dell laptop. driver installation.

Consider a case where Wi-Fi does not work on a Dell laptop using the 3521 model as an example. Pressing the FnF2 hotkey combination does not turn on the wireless Wi-Fi network. But only Bluetooth turns on. Wi-Fi network is not visible.

Let’s go to the device manager. Start menu, then Computer and Properties. In the window that appears at the top left, we find and click the link “Device Manager”.

In the device manager we find the line “Network adapters”. Press it and see that there is no Wi-Fi network there, there are only Bluetooth devices.

Is our Wi-Fi network listed under “Other devices”? “Network controller”. At the same time, there are no drivers for it.

Drivers can be found on the Internet. We go to the Dell website and, according to the model of our laptop, we download the necessary drivers “Network drivers” for Windows 7, in our case, since we have it. If you have another operating system, we are looking for drivers for it.

We launch them. In the window that appears, press the “Install” button and wait for the driver to start installing on our Wi-Fi adapter. At the same time, at the beginning of the installation, a message may pop up that these are drivers for Bluetooth.

Do not be alarmed, most likely, the package contains both drivers for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapter.

In the window that appears, we agree with the installation of the software. And In the next window, we will see the process of installing the driver package.

A window may pop up asking us to activate Bluetooth using a wireless switch. Difficulties may arise here. To continue the installation, press the FnF2 key combination.

Bluetooth is activated and installation will continue. During the installation process, messages will pop up in the window, which devices can connect wirelessly and what functions to perform. At the end of the installation, a message will pop up that the device is ready to use.

Let’s restart the computer so that the installed drivers take effect. Going back to the Start Menu? “A computer” ? “Properties”? “Device Manager”. We will notice that our Wi-Fi module will already appear in the line “Network adapters”. “Dell Wireless”.

Now, after pressing the FnF2 keyboard shortcut, the wireless network will be activated. The icon of the disabled network, which is located at the bottom of the monitor on the right (the computer icon with a red cross) will change to the icon of the activated network (growing antennas) and a message will appear in the small window “Starting a Bluetooth device”.

Thus, despite the fact that when installing the package it was written that we are installing only the Bluetooth drivers, we also installed the drivers for the Wi-Fi module.

Method 1. enabling via the Network and Sharing Center.

Thus, we will immediately open the section “Changing adapter settings” (in Windows XP this section was called “Network Connections”). Here we are looking for “Wireless Network Connection”.

If it is gray, it means that WI-FI is disabled. Right-click on the Wireless Network Connection and select the “Enable” menu item. After that, we try to connect to the wireless network.

How to turn on WI-FI on a laptop?!

Almost every fifth apartment has a wireless network. People easily use the delights of wireless communications on their laptops, but when even the simplest problems arise, they immediately fall into a stupor and do not know what to do about it, since for many it is a dark forest, unfortunately. I will try to help, and I will tell you in more or less simple language how to turn on WI-FI on a laptop if it suddenly turns off. over, the instructions from Step 2 will be useful not only for laptop owners, but also for owners of ordinary computers on which a WI-FI adapter is installed.

How to enable WI-FI programmatically.

The wireless adapter can be turned off by software. that is, it was turned off in the settings of the Windows operating system. Turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop, if it is turned off in the operating system settings, there are two ways.

How to enable WI-FI on a laptop hardware.

On some laptop models, you first need to turn on the Wi-Fi adapter with the button.
Examine the laptop case carefully. The WI-FI power button can be in the form of a slider (usually on older models):

If there is no separate power button, then look at the laptop keyboard. namely, the F1-F12 keys. One of them should have a Wi-Fi antenna in the form of an antenna. The most commonly used combination of the function key and F5:

If you use a USB adapter, then, as a rule, there is no separate WI-FI power key on it, so the adapter is always turned on in hardware.

Method 2. Enabling via device manager.

In Device Manager, as a rule, network adapters are rarely disabled, since this is simply not necessary and they do it only as a last resort, or it happens due to a failure. And if the Wi-Fi adapter is disabled in Device Manager, then in Network Connections there will be no “Wireless Network Connection” icon at all. To turn on Wi-Fi, you must first go to Device Manager. To do this, as in step 1, press the WinR key combination and in the Run window write the command: devmgmt.msc, press OK. Windows Device Manager will open.

In the “Network adapters” section, look for a device with Wireless or Wi-Fi in its name. Click on it with the right mouse button and select the “Engage” menu item. If suddenly the device refuses to start and an error is displayed. try to download the drivers for the adapter from the manufacturer’s official page and install them.

Note:
There is one more trick that you have to do if your laptop has Windows preinstalled from the factory. It consists in the fact that sometimes you have to run a program for managing wireless networks from a computer manufacturer. Such programs come with almost every laptop. They are called “wireless assistant” or “Wi-Fi manager” and are located in the Start Menu. “Programs” (“All Programs”). I met a couple of laptop models on which WI-FI seems to be on everywhere, but until you launch the utility, the adapter does not catch the network.

If you have turned on the adapter, but cannot connect to a wireless network. see this article: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Problems.

How to distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop

You can easily connect your phone, tablet or other device to a high-speed Internet connected to your home through a Wi-Fi router (router). However, such a device is not always at hand (for example, you went to the country house, taking with you a laptop and a wireless USB modem). In such cases, you can use the Internet on a mobile gadget through a laptop, entrusting it with the functions of a router. Consider how to make a laptop a WI-FI access point.

Creating a wireless access point using the Windows menu

The easiest way to create a virtual router is to use the “Network Control Center” function built into the OS. This requires:

  • In the system tray, right-click on the global network access icon and select the required item.
  • In the window that opens, activate the function “Create a new connection”, and then go to the section “Connecting to a Wi-Fi network manually” (“Setting up a PC-PC network”).
  • Set the name of the future wireless network (for example, VirtualRouter), security type and access key. Using the security key, you can prevent third parties from connecting to Wi-Fi. For protection, it is recommended to use WPA2-Personal, which allows you to set a password of 8 characters or more. If your phone cannot find a WPA-2 protected network, try changing the encryption to WEP or abandon the password altogether.
  • To create a Wi-Fi hotspot, click “Next”.

After the virtual router is created, in order to successfully use the Internet through it, you may additionally need to enable public access. This is done as follows:

  • We go to the “Network Control Center” and call the properties of the network through which the laptop is connected to the Internet.
  • In the “Access” tab, check the item “Allow other users to use the Internet on this PC”.
  • We select the device with which the phone or other device will be connected. In our case, the access will be via Wi-Fi.

After all the steps have been completed, turn on Wi-Fi on the mobile gadget and start a search for available networks. In the drop-down list, select the network name that was specified when creating a virtual Wi-Fi router, and specify the specified key.

Sharing Wi-Fi with MyPublicWi-Fi

This application is absolutely free and has a user-friendly interface, albeit in a foreign language. With it, you can make a Wi-Fi hotspot with just a few clicks:

  • Download and install the utility on a laptop. The latest version of the program weighs about 1 MB, so there will be no problems with downloading.
  • Run the application as administrator.
  • The utility itself consists of three tabs: Setting, Clients and Management. In the first tab, you can specify the name of the connection (Network name), set the password (Network key) and select the connection that uses the laptop. Be sure to check the box next to “Enable Internet Sharing”. To start the virtual router, click LMB Set Up and Start Hotspot.
  • In order for the program to automatically load after each start of the PC, go to the Management tab and select the appropriate item. You may need to prevent users of the created network from using the Download Master and mTorrent file sharing services. To do this, check the top box, as shown in the figure.
  • To find out who is connected to your point, go to the Clients tab.

Ways to create a wireless access point

Any modern laptop is equipped with a wireless adapter that can be used as a Wi-Fi router. To do this, you need to create a kind of virtual bridge connecting network equipment (Wi-Fi adapter and network card).

To get this kind of routing, you can use the following tools:

  • standard tools of Windows OS (graphical application “Network Control Center”, command line or bat-file);
  • additional software.

Whichever method is chosen, you need to ensure compliance with the following conditions:

  • The laptop must be running Windows 7 or higher. In earlier versions of operating systems (for example, in Windows XP), support for Wi-Fi networks is implemented at a low level. Therefore, it is not a fact that you will be able to turn on the distribution of the Internet on old operating systems.
  • The laptop must be equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter. To find out if a wireless adapter is installed on your PC, you can go to the “Device Manager” and in the “Network adapters” tab, view the required information. The Wi-Fi adapter is called the Wireless 802.11 type.
  • The PC must be connected to a wired or wireless Internet.

Create Wi-Fi access via command line

You can also use the command line to connect your phone to the Internet via a laptop, that is, using a virtual router. This procedure may seem complicated to an inexperienced user, however, following the instructions exactly, you will be able to turn on the Wi-Fi point in just a few minutes.

READ  How to take a photo from the laptop screen

To start distributing WI-FI from laptop to phone, you need:

  • Enter the command entry mode as administrator. To do this, in the “Search” line (called using the WinQ keys), enter “Command line” or cmd. In the drop-down list, click RMB on the corresponding line and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Initialize the Wi-Fi network using the first command shown in the image. In it, the TestShare parameter denotes the name of the future network, and the numbers in order are the input password (at least 8 characters). The second command in the list can start the registered network, and the last command can stop it.

To distribute the Internet via a laptop to a phone or other device, you need to enable sharing to the newly created Wi-Fi point. To do this, go to the “Network Connections” section and call the properties of the network through which the Internet is connected to the laptop. After that, in the “Advanced” tab, put a “bird” in front of the corresponding item, and in the drop-down list, select the name of the created virtual router.

Using a bat file

Creating a Wi-Fi access point via the command line is inconvenient because every time you turn off the PC, you need to re-write all the commands. Therefore, this method of turning a laptop into a router can only be used for a one-time Internet connection to a phone.

The execution of the above commands can be fully automated. To do this, you need to write a small script in a standard Windows text editor, and then save the document on the laptop desktop under any name in the.bat format. To start distributing Wi-Fi using a virtual router to your phone, you just need to run this document with administrator rights. An example script is shown in the figure, where YourSSID and YourPassword are the name of the wireless connection and the access key to it.

Create a Wi-Fi hotspot via Connectify

The MyPublicWi-Fi utility may experience problems if the Internet to the laptop is connected not via a cable, but via a USB modem. In this case, it is better to use the Connectify app. There is a paid and free version of this program. For periodic use, the second option is sufficient. To enable the distribution of Wi-Fi from PC to phone using Connectify, you must:

  • Download and install software on a laptop.
  • After the first launch of the utility, you may need to select its version. Lite or Pro. We mark the first option, since Pro is available only for users who have paid about 45 for the program.
  • The application menu is almost the same as MyPublicWi-Fi. Here you also need to register the name and password of the access point, indicate the source of the Internet and the interface through which the mobile phone will be connected. In the Sharing Mode line, you additionally need to specify the type of network: open or closed with authorization.
  • To start distributing the Internet via Wi-Fi, click Start Hotspot.

Description

The wireless Wi-Fi network has already become an integral attribute not only of public institutions, but also of private houses and apartments. However, Wi-Fi activation issues are common on different laptops. Users are wondering how to turn on Wi-Fi on a Dell laptop so that other devices can be connected to the wireless network.

Programmatically Enabling Wi-Fi on a Dell Laptop

If the above methods did not help to fix the situation, the adapter is probably not working due to software problems.

There are two methods to solve the problem using the operating system. Algorithm of actions for the first method:

  • Go to the “Network Control Center”.
  • To start the device connecting the laptop to Wi-Fi, use the WinR keyboard shortcut.
  • A window will open in which you need to enter the command “ncpa.cpl” (without quotes).
  • In the window that appears, you can change the adapter parameters.
  • Find the column that informs about the connection to the wireless network. If the graph is gray, the Internet does not work.
  • Then right-click on the connection and select the “Enable” option.

This is not the only method of activating Wi-Fi using the program.

To configure the Internet, you can use special programs that are installed by default by the manufacturer of the gadget. For Dell laptops, this is the Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager. With its help, through the operating system, you can turn on Wi-Fi.

Step-by-step instructions for using the program:

  • Click on “Start” and select “All Programs”. Locate the Dell Control Point icon in the list.
  • Click on “Connection Manager” and select Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager.
  • Open “Profiles”, click the “Add” option.
  • Check the box to the left of the branch “To create a profile based on location” and specify the name of the location.
  • Check if there is a check mark next to “Select the type of network connections”.
  • Check the box next to the Wi-Fi module and click “Next”.
  • Enter a name for the connection in the “Connection Name” column. Select the desired wireless network and click “OK”.
  • If an exclamation mark appears inside an orange circle, enter the Wi-Fi passkey, click Finish, then Finish.
  • Open “Connection Status”. A window will appear in which you need to select Wi-Fi. Make sure that the profile you just created is applied and click “Connect”.

If the above methods did not work and the laptop still does not see Wi-Fi, it is better to contact a specialist with the problem.

Checking a Dell laptop for a Wi-Fi driver

Most users are used to the fact that connecting a device to Wi-Fi is a simple and quick process. It is enough to enter the password once, and the system will remember your device and will provide automatic connection in the future. But when Wi-Fi turns off, not every US-based Dell laptop owner knows how to activate Wi-Fi.

To enable the wireless network on Dell Inspiron 3552, 1525, 3521, 500, Vostro 1015, N5110 and others laptops, first of all check the device for a special driver, because without it you will not be able to get the Wi-Fi adapter working.

  • Go to the “Device Manager” (open the control panel through the “Start”, where you will see the corresponding name).
  • Open the “Network adapters” tab.
  • It should display the Wi-Fi adapter. It can be easily identified by its name, which usually contains the word wireless. If there is no name, the driver is not installed.
  • Go to “Start”. “Network and Sharing Center”.
  • On the left side of the tab that opens, click on the option “Changes to adapter parameters”.
  • If you see the name “Wireless Network Connection”, then everything is in order with the drivers.

When you find that the drivers are not installed, install the latest software yourself:

  • Go to the laptop manufacturer’s website.
  • Enter in the search the name of the device model (indicated in the documents for the laptop).
  • Download the Wi-Fi network card driver for your operating system from the website.
  • Click on the downloaded file, follow the instructions of the installer.

To make the Internet work, we recommend that you restart your router and computer. The first sign of a positive change: a Wi-Fi icon will appear in the taskbar. By clicking on it, you will see the available wireless connections. If the devices show poor reception, we recommend reducing the distance between them. this should increase the speed and quality of the connection.

Turn on Wi-Fi on a Dell laptop with a special button or keyboard shortcut

This is the first recommended method to set up Wi-Fi on your computer. The user only needs to click on a special button on the laptop body or hold down a key combination. If the first method is not always provided in devices, then the second option works in most cases.

Look for the wireless network icon on the laptop (picture below).

The manufacturer Dell installs special switches on its devices to activate / deactivate Wi-Fi, which is due to the fact that the wireless network consumes a lot of battery power. Typically, these keys are mounted on the front of the case, on the side.

Button locations differ depending on the device model. For example, the Dell D640 has a toggle switch on the front left to turn on Wi-Fi, while the Vostro 1500 has a large button on the back of the left side of the case.

As a sample, we give a couple of photos that show the position of the switch:

Usually the manufacturer builds in a special toggle switch to activate the search for wireless networks, but if it is not found, a key combination will help.

To activate the wireless network on different laptop models, the following key combinations are used:

  • Fn F2 (relevant for Inspiron 1501);
  • Fn F8;
  • Fn F12.

Summing up

As you can see, it is not so difficult to restore the performance of a Wi-Fi network if you study the basic nuances of its functioning. If the wireless connection is lost, it takes 10-15 minutes to try different methods of activating Wi-Fi: installing a driver, using a key combination, buttons on the case, or turning on the adapter through the operating system. And the article will tell you more about the problems.
