How to turn on the cooler on a laptop to the maximum

How to turn on the fan on a laptop to the maximum: causes of overheating and how to solve them

turn, cooler, laptop, maximum

Hello, friends of the site itswat.ru. Once you have looked at this page, it means that your laptop has started to overheat. High-quality cooling can extend the life of the machine as a whole and the service life of its components. The manufacturers took care of this by building a fan into their brainchildren, but tuned its operation to only 50% of its maximum power. This is easily explained. Firstly, for standard work on a PC (text editors, mail, social networks, music, and so on), “half” cooling is quite enough. Secondly, at maximum speed, the cooler will hum quite loudly, which is not very pleasant for the human ear. But for very active users who use their machine for games, constantly watching videos and launching various heavily loading and warming up processes, such “blowing” is not enough. And in hot summer periods, overheating happens much faster. That is why today I will tell you how to turn on the fan on a laptop to the maximum.

Software

For those who do not want to go into the basic input and output system, but think that their ASUS, Acer, Lenovo or any other laptop is overheating, special programs such as Speedfan, Lenovo Energy Management will help to increase the fan speed. Easy Settings and Notebook FanControl. Let’s talk about them in more detail.

Cleaning and tuning

If your “iron horse” did not overheat earlier during similar actions, but “here it suddenly started”, then one of the most probable reasons is the accumulation of dust. But please don’t try to vacuum it up. These actions can lead to more serious damage. Clean the ventilation slots with a soft brush and the keyboard with a special tissue. In case of severe contamination, it is better to take the laptop to a service center, since it must be thoroughly disassembled for cleaning. There are a bunch of bolts, they are all of different lengths, they are unscrewed and returned to their place in a strict sequence. Therefore, I recommend that you entrust this business to an experienced master.

The second most common reason is a failure of the system cooling policy settings provided in Windows 10 and earlier versions of the OS. Do the following:

  • Go to Control Panel. select the appropriate item in Start or click WinR, write control and click OK.
  • Once in the Panel, go to Power Options.
  • Click on the command phrase “Setting”, highlighted in blue, opposite the power scheme you have chosen.
  • Click on the command “Change advanced parameters”, also highlighted in blue.
  • Using the slider, move to the item “Processor power management”, expand its contents by clicking on the plus sign.
  • Click on the plus sign next to Cooling Policy and make sure the option is set to Active and not Passive.
  • If this is not the case, then change the settings and click OK.

After the indicated actions, your fan should work as it should. If this does not happen, then see the following paragraphs of this manual.

Friends, suppose that you have no dust, and the cooling in the system is active, but the car continues to overheat. This means that the 50% rotation speed set by the manufacturers by default is not enough. You need to increase it yourself. The first method is suitable for confident users who understand what BIOS is:

  • Enter mode by pressing Del, F8 or F12 during boot. Which button you press depends on your motherboard model. If the quick start function is activated on your machine, then first disable it in the Power supply settings.
  • After entering the BIOS, you need to expand the Power menu and go to the Hardware Monitor tab.
  • Further, you have two options. to independently set the fan power (set as a percentage) or turn on the intelligent mode, in which the system itself will regulate its operation. Pay attention to the CPU Q-Fan Control parameter. It is he who launches the “intellectual”. Disabled is disabled and Enabled is enabled.

By the way, the BIOS may look slightly different, don’t be alarmed. In the photo below you will see that the functionality remains unchanged.

  • Fan speed is responsible for the fan speed.
  • Temperature sets the value of the processor temperature that the cooler should maintain.
  • Q-Fan Control activates Smart Mode, and its Fan Profile setting sets the amount of cooling. There are three options: Silent. energy saving and noiselessness are paramount; Standard is exactly the same golden mean set by manufacturers; Performance and Turbo. will accelerate the fan to the maximum, which is what you should choose.

After that, it remains only to exit the BIOS with saving the changes made. To do this, return to the main screen and select the Save Exit Setup option and answer yes to the system prompt (Y and Enter).

It should be noted that on some laptops, such as “DNS” manufacturers have deprived us of the opportunity in BIOS to independently increase the speed of the cooler. In this case, you just have to clean the laptop from dust and try one of the software described below.

Speedfan

One of the most common programs with which users can monitor the temperature of the main nodes of the laptop and forcibly turn on the fan to the maximum is Speedfan. Among the advantages of the program, I would like to note its free-of-charge, ease of use, the presence of the Russian language and relative universality. Speedfan is suitable for most laptops of famous brands. Dell, Acer, Samsung, HP, Lenovo and others. So what needs to be done:

  • Download Speedfan from the official source (http://speedfans.ru/). On a laptop, it only takes a few megabytes of space.
  • Unpack the archive.
  • Install the utility by launching the installer with two clicks and following its instructions.
  • Start Speedfan. He will immediately diagnose your device and display data on the temperature of its nodes.
  • For convenience, change the language of the utility. click on the Configure button, go to the Options section and select Russian (Russian) from the drop-down list.
  • Go to the Indicators section, where you can not only see the current temperature of the components, but also set the required rotational speed of the cooler. It is measured as a percentage.
  • By pressing the Configuration button, you can go to the desired and critical temperature settings. The first is the one that the cooling system will try to maintain, and the second is the one at which the system will start sounding the alarm and warn about overheating.
  • After making the settings, close the program with the corresponding button.

Personal coolers

Some manufacturers develop similar programs for their laptops, for example:

  • Lenovo Energy Management Comes to the Rescue for Lenovo Users.
  • For Samsung users. Easy Settings.
  • Acer will cool ACFanControl.
  • AMD OverDrive is available for AMD processors.
  • For Intel. Riva Tunes.
  • MSI will cool down MSI Afterburner.

Friends, another program that I want to highlight is Notebook FanControl, developed by HP laptop manufacturers, but it functions equally well on most modern machines. It is also understandable and free, which is also important. The basic settings in Notebook FanControl are slightly different from those in Speedfan:

  • Initially, you will have to select the brand or model of the laptop yourself by clicking on the button with three dots in the main window.
  • After the analysis by the program, you will see the temperature of the processor at the moment.
  • The window contains settings for three modes: Disabled. functionality is disabled, Read-only. only for reading, and Enabled. manual configuration. Enabling the latter mode will allow you to adjust the cooler rotation speed by moving the slider. The line under the slider shows the actual speed received.
  • Other settings of the cooling system can be seen by clicking on the button with the gear icon in the lower corner of the window.

Friends, today I focused on laptops with the Windows operating system. Controlling a cooler in a Linux system is even easier through the Fancontrol service, but only initially you need to configure it correctly. Who will be interested in this topic, please contact me, I will write detailed instructions. For today, everything, I hope, was useful to you. Goodbye.

A program for managing coolers in a computer

Sometimes the hum from the system unit does not allow you to enjoy the silence or concentrate. In this article I will tell you how to regulate the speed of coolers using a special program for Windows XP / 7/8/10, and at the end I will show the whole process in more detail on the video.

Cooler management software SpeedFan

It is a feature-rich and completely free program. Probably I will immediately upset a little, saying that this program does not work on all laptops, but you can try it, and it will not regulate the speed of those fans that the motherboard cannot control from the BIOS. For example, from my BIOS, you can enable the SmartFan cooler control function for the CPU only. Although you can watch the current revolutions for two more.

Attention: before using the program, disable control of coolers from BIOS!

Otherwise, the following situation may occur. At the moment of loading the SpeedFan program, the current revolutions are read and taken as maximum. Accordingly, if by this time the BIOS does not spin the fan to maximum speed, then the program will not be able to do this either.

It happened to me once that at the moment of loading the program the cooler on the processor was spinning at a speed of 1100 rpm, and SpeedFan could not set a larger value. As a result, the processor warmed up to 86 degrees! And I noticed this by chance, when at the time of heavy load I did not wait for the noise from the fan. Fortunately, nothing burned out, but the computer could no longer turn on

Enabling the cooler via BIOS

In order to start the cooler forcibly, it is enough to change some settings in the BIOS’e.

  • Enter BIOS.
  • Enter the Power / Hardware Monitor menu.
  • Next, you should write down the value (indicated as a percentage), at what power it needs to work. An alternative option is to activate the intelligent operating mode. In this case, the system itself will determine the speed of rotation of the blades based on the load on the CPU.
  • We save the settings and leave the BIOS.

The appearance of the “Hardware Monitor” section may differ slightly, depending on the BIOS version. But the settings always remain the same, so you can easily turn on the fan on the laptop and change its operating mode without much difficulty:

  • Function “CPU Temperature”. is responsible for the temperature of the processor, which the fan will maintain.
  • In the “CPU Fan Speed” parameter, the rotational speed of the cooler is indicated.
  • CPU Q-Fan Control. intelligent operation mode. To activate it, set the value “Enable”.

Smart Mode Options:

  • Silent. power saving and silent operation.
  • Standard. works at half power.
  • Performance and Turbo. maximum cooler speed.

Why are fans making noise and what are the ways to fix it?

With the exception of special fanless modifications, each computer has two or more coolers: in the power supply, on the processor, video card, in the case, and others. And everyone makes their own noise, and that’s bad news. Many are simply accustomed to the noise of their system unit and believe that it should be so. Maybe it should, but not necessarily! 99% of the time, computer noise can be reduced by 10%.90%, which is good news.

As you already understood, noiselessness is achieved by reducing noise from coolers. This is possible by using naturally quieter coolers, or by reducing the speed of existing ones. Naturally, you can reduce the speed to values that do not threaten the computer overheating! This article will focus on this method. Even more noise reduction will help programs to reduce crackling from the hard drive.

So, to reduce the rotational speed of the cooler, you can use one of the options:

  • The program for controlling the rotation speed of coolers
  • “Intelligent” RPM control system embedded in BIOS
  • Utilities from the manufacturer of the motherboard, laptop or video card
  • Use a special device. reobas
  • Artificially underestimate the fan supply voltage

Those who control from the BIOS normally work may not read further. But often the BIOS only superficially adjusts the speed, without lowering them to silent, and at the same time still acceptable, values. Utilities from the manufacturer are sometimes the only way to influence the fans, because third-party programs often do not work on unusual motherboards and laptops. Let’s analyze the most optimal. the first way.

How to turn on the fan on a laptop through Windows

Windows 7, 8, 10 has a built-in desktop control setup program. To open it follow the instructions:

  • Open the control panel. Press WINR and enter “control”.
  • In the control panel, find the item “power supply”.
  • Select any table scheme and opposite it, find the item “setting the power supply scheme”.
  • Click on “change advanced options”.
  • In the list of available settings, find the “Processor table control. system cooling policy” section. Then select the “active” option from the available options. The fan on the laptop is now always on. This leads to improved cooling, but the noise of the device is noticeably increased. Many users complain about HP’s poor cooling. To fix this problem, put the fan on your HP laptop into active mode. After that, overheating will occur much less and it will become much more comfortable to work with the device.

Solutions

The functioning of the cooling system is completely dependent on the BIOS. Honor is worth the fact that, according to the factory settings, the cooling system does not work at full capacity, but only 50% for minimum power consumption and noise reduction. Almost all motherboards have the ability to control coolers using special programs.

In order to forcibly turn on the cooler on a laptop, you can use one of the following methods:

  • Via BIOS.
  • Using software.

Changing the settings may generate additional noise and increase power consumption. That is why, first, you should disassemble and thoroughly clean the laptop, including the cooling system, from accumulated dust, which may be the initial cause of overheating.

All the methods presented below are equally suitable for laptops of various companies (Samsung, HP, asus, Lenovo, etc.)

Programming method

You can also forcibly turn on the fan on a laptop using the Speedfan program. I cannot fail to note the simple and user-friendly interface, multilingual and free, so I recommend.

  • Install and run the program.
  • For convenience, you can change the language in the “Configure” section, then go to the “Options” tab and in the “Language” section select “Russian”.
  • Go to “Indicators”, where information about the temperature of all system components is located. Here you can also set the required rotational power, which is measured as a percentage.
  • Go to the Configuration / Temperature section and register the desired temperature for the processor, motherboard and HDD, which the cooling system needs to maintain. Pay attention to the special line “Alarm”. In it, you set the temperature, in case of exceeding which the program will notify you of overheating, which will make it possible to react faster in critical situations.

There are other similar programs, for example, the AMD OverDrive utility is developed for AMD processors, while the Riva Tunes software can be used for Intel processors, they also allow you to run the fan at full power.

If you did not manage to fix the problems that have arisen on your own, then most likely the problem lies at a more technical level. It can be: breakdown of the motherboard, power supply,

hard disk, video card, RAM, etc.

It is important to diagnose and fix the breakdown in time.,
to prevent damage to other components.

Speed Fan and other programs

Most budget devices do not support RPM control. But a similar problem is solved programmatically through third-party software. The most popular program is Speed Fan. Through it you can turn on the fan on laptops Samsung, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, HP and many other manufacturers that do not have built-in specialized software.

There is a drop-down list on the main window of the program, through which you can control the activity of the cooling system in real time.

To view detailed information from temperature sensors and configure the activity of coolers, go to the configuration tab.

To turn on the fan on a laptop Lenovo and Acer, you can use special applications, these 2 manufacturers provide customers with proprietary software. For some series of laptops, separate software is created, an example of such programs:

  • Lenovo. Lenovo Energy Management;
  • Samsung. Easy Settings;
  • MSI. MSI Afterburner;
  • HP. HP Notebbok Fan Control;
  • Acer. ACFan Control, SmartFan, A1ctl;
  • ASUS (eee series models). Eeectl.

In addition to these programs, you can also try software from AMD and Intel processor manufacturers:

  • AMD OverDrive (for AMD processors);
  • Riva Tunes (for Intel processors).

How to turn on a fan on a laptop?

To fix this problem, the OS provides auxiliary settings. To change them, you can use third-party programs, but to turn on the fan on the laptop for a whole, just change a couple of parameters in the power supply circuit of the device.

Hardware check

The second option, how to check the laptop cooler for performance, is a hardware check by disassembling the laptop. Before disassembling and finding out if the fan is working, carefully consider the instructions for disassembling your device so as not to spoil anything. If the laptop is still under warranty, then do not disassemble it yourself. Better take it to a service center so as not to lose the warranty. Experienced craftsmen will find and solve the problem that has arisen, and you will not have to puzzle over how to check if the cooler is spinning.

If you decide to disassemble the laptop yourself, then keep in mind that it is not necessary to remove the fan. It is enough to get access to the wires with which it could be connected to another device. Perhaps this will help save you valuable time. To check if the cooler works, you only need a USB cable with a plug on one side and two wires and (-) on the other. Next, connect the USB cable wires to the fan wires (black to black, red to red), after which the USB cable is connected to another computer.

What do we get? If the cooler does not spin, then the whole problem lies in its performance; if, on the contrary, it rotates without any problems, then the reason for overheating is completely different. Alternatively, replace the thermal paste on the processor and thoroughly clean the entire cooling system. If this does not help, then you will have to contact a specialized service.

Now you know how to check the fan operation in two simple but effective ways. Choose the most suitable one and be sure that with their help you will definitely find the cause of the problem.

Cleaning or replacing the cooler

If you get to the laptop cooler, you can try dusting it or replacing it yourself. Heatsinks with fans should be looked for in the hottest spots. near a video card, processor, hard drive. The cooler itself will be fixed with screws.

You can clean the fan with a regular cloth or a special brush. Then it is necessary to remove the radiators and also remove the accumulated dust from them. Basically, this completes the cleaning of the cooler, all that remains is to reinstall the cooling system without confusing anything. If you do not have experience in carrying out such operations, then it is better to immediately trust the professionals and contact the service center.

It is recommended to carry out this cleaning regularly, even if you do not notice problems with overheating of the equipment. You should also pay close attention to the condition of the cooling system if there are animals in the house or if there has been a recent renovation with “dusty” work. for example, rubbing over plastered walls. If after cleaning the cooler the laptop components still do not cool properly, replace the fan with a more powerful one or consider purchasing a cooling pad.

How to check a laptop or computer fan

Some parts of a laptop or computer need cooling, as they can get very hot during operation. Without cooling, the parts will simply burn out and your device will be unusable. So it’s worth checking your cooling system from time to time. And now we will tell you how to check a cooler (fan, in other words), and the program “SpeedFan” will help us with this.

And so we download the “SpeedFan” program and perform all the necessary operations to operate the product, that is, install it on our computer, launch it and, if necessary, configure the interface language. Russian. After launching the program, in the center of the window, the status of coolers and the temperature of devices that are cooled by the cooler will be displayed. If an icon with the image of a “fire” appears, it means that the temperature of the device is off scale.

For such a case, the program has settings to increase the rotation speed of the fan blades. It is enough to select the desired cooler and click on the “Up” button, then monitor the temperature of the equipment so that it drops to normal.

If increasing the speed does not help, chances are that the cooler is simply not cooling due to the dust that settles on the blades. Here you need to disassemble your computer, release the fan and wipe each burst with a cotton swab with a raster of alcohol. At the same time, you can lubricate the fan with oil using a medical syringe and blow out the radiators from dust.

After the dirt is completely removed from the cooler, we collect all the parts in their places, connect all the wiring and tighten the bolts. This should be done carefully, remember that any scratch you put can damage your equipment.

Having assembled the computer, turn it on, wait until it is fully loaded and run the SpeedFan program to check the current temperature. Perhaps immediately after booting the system, the temperature may not be high, but after some time of computer operation, the temperature will rise higher, so you should check again, after a while.

There are times when the above procedures do not help, the temperature goes off scale without load, while the fan speed is set to maximum and the blades are clean. In such cases, you should think about replacing the cooler completely, perhaps it has exhausted its own and fails. It is better to replace the cooler with the same brand and characteristics.

Thank you for your attention, we hope the article was helpful.

Checking through the program

SpeedFan is a special program for testing all installed fans, which will allow you to quickly establish the status and degree of operation of the device without disassembling it. Using this utility, the user gets full control over the fan operation, and can adjust the rotation speed at a particular temperature.

  • Download, install and run the software:
  • Click the Configure button;
  • Go to Options / Languages and select Russian to Russify the interface.
  • The utility is now ready to work.

Of course, you don’t have to change the language, because the SpeedFan interface is already quite understandable, and you can see which components are at a normal temperature and which are getting too hot. However, for maximum convenience, you should do all the above steps.

Once properly configured, the cooling system will perform much more efficiently. Please note that the speed is set in% ratio. In this example, it is 100%.

In the event that you have set the maximum speed of the blades, and they still do not provide normal cooling, then the reason may lie in insufficient fan power or general malfunctions during operation. In this case, a complete replacement may be required.

Replacing the cooler

If the humming of the fan lasts after cleaning, lubricating it and changing the thermal paste, then a mechanical malfunction of the cooling system may be a prerequisite. Traditionally, this happens if the cooler axis has shifted, or its blades or bearings are damaged. In this case, the best solution would be to replace the cooler on the laptop.

If your laptop slows down, then do not postpone until later, follow the link and read our material on what to do if the laptop slows down, as well as a useful article about the situation when the laptop does not cut in. Common problems.

Reducing CPU heat

If these methods do not help, then you can try to reduce the heating of the processor, so that at least during the idle time of the computer, the cooler does not start to cut in very often. Open Windows 7/8/10 Power Specifications via Control Panel. Hardware and sound. Power supply “. Please note which power supply scheme you have chosen. For the least heating of the processor, you must select “Balanced (recommended)” or “Economical”.

The High Performance profile keeps the processor at its maximum frequency at all times, even when not in use. In other profiles, the clock speed is increased as needed. You will hardly notice a real decrease in performance when switching, even to the “Economical” scheme.

Next, open the “Task Manager” with the right key on an empty space on the taskbar or through the combination “CtrlAltDel”:

On the first tab “Processes” sort by the column “CPU” (central processing unit) and study in a minute which program consumes computing resources.

A periodic surge of several percent of the CPU load can be considered sufficient to warm up the processor and turn on the fan. Also pay attention to other indicators:

  • GPU: overload on the video card, incl. a video chip integrated into the processor. Must be no more than 0.3%, not counting the “Desktop Window Manager”;
  • Disk: read and write to disk. An unchanged hold at more than 1MB / s is abnormal and can lead to additional heating;
  • Network: Implementation of network bandwidth. Unchanged hold at the usual more than 1MB / can lead to additional heating.

Now we run over to the “Details” tab, sort the processes by the “CPU” column and study which of them is constantly used by the processor. On this tab, the most detailed information about running processes.

So, if we managed to find a gluttonous process, then we find out what kind of program or system service it is. The path to the exe-file can be seen through the right key by the process-properties. Google by process name why it is loading the system. If this process is called “svchost.exe”, then Windows auto-update can be started, just wait 15 minutes.

The “svchost” process is systemic and can mean anything, this topic deserves a separate dissertation)). The load on the processor, and especially the GPU, by a program unknown to you, may mean the presence of a virus or a cryptocurrency miner in the system. Check the PC with the installed antivirus and one of the additional antivirus scanners.

Ways to solve the problem

If you heard the fan noise at the very beginning of the operation of a newly-acquired laptop, then this may be the individuality of the device, but for you it is better to consult on this issue in the organization where you got the equipment.

over, different laptop models may emit different volume of noise. Indeed, even for similar models, this indicator may not be at all similar, since it directly depends on the size of the fan blades, the power of the computer device and on almost all other characteristics of the computer.

If the noise arose after a sufficiently long period of operation of the device, then most often this discrepancy is associated with the dust that has accumulated in the cooling system of your laptop.

The laptop cooler stops and spins all the time

On some laptops, you can find an unpleasant and annoying highlight of the logic of the cooling system: the fan stops every minute and soon starts spinning again. This logic is conceived from sound judgments so that the cooler rotates for the least amount of time. When the central processor heats up to a certain temperature, for example, 54 degrees, the fan cuts in and works until the processor cools down to a lower temperature threshold, for example, up to 48 degrees.

Everything would be fine, but with an illiterately implemented laptop cooling, it turns out that after the fan stops, the processor heats up to 54 degrees in less than a minute, and this even if the laptop is idle without work. The process is repeated, the cooler starts up, and after 15-30 seconds it goes out again. When you just read or write a text, this process becomes very annoying.

BIOS flashing

Maybe your problem is known and the solution has existed for a long time. You just need to update your motherboard BIOS. Updating the BIOS is not a task for beginners, but in fact there is nothing difficult here, because the whole process is automated and protected from the “fool”.

Go to the OFFICIAL web site of the laptop manufacturer and find the model of YOUR SPECIFIC device on the label below. laptops of the same model can vary considerably in their internals. Look at “MODEL NO” or something similar, maybe even the serial number will be suitable for searching in the “Drivers & Downloads” section of the manufacturer’s website.

Next, you need to find a BIOS update for your model. From time to time, they give you a download of an application that will automatically see the laptop model and install the missing drivers and the latest BIOS. Next, you need to run the BIOS installer and follow the instructions flashing professionals.

Also, you can write to the Support of the laptop manufacturer and express a claim regarding the operation of the cooling system. Unfortunately, such a cooler will most likely be considered normal.

The cooler works constantly on a laptop. How to turn on the fan on a laptop to the maximum: causes of overheating and how to solve them

BIOS settings FAN Control

Ideally, if the fan logic can be configured in the laptop BIOS. Reboot the device and enter the BIOS using the F2 key or another. In one of the sections of the BIOS, you need to find something similar to “FAN Control” (FAN. fan). On different models, the names of the options can be very different, so you will need to refer to the annotation of the motherboard from the manufacturer.

By choosing different options and temperature thresholds, it is necessary to achieve an applicable cooling system performance. The BIOS does not always allow you to configure the cooler the way you would like, or does not have the “FAN Control” options at all. Then you can try to install and configure the program to regulate the speed of the laptop cooler.

Dust cleaning

Preventive cleaning of computer equipment should be carried out at least once a year. Please note that for cleaning it is necessary for you to partly disassemble the housing of the device and the cooling system. But, if you do not have special knowledge and abilities in carrying out similar operations and have never done this function without the help of others, then in this case it is worth contacting the service center for professional help.

Earlier we discussed this issue in the article “Cleaning a laptop from dust”, therefore, you can familiarize yourself with the materials of this discount, if you decided to clean your computer device of dust without the help of others.

Ways to control the operation of the cooler on a laptop

In laptop computers, the BIOS is responsible for the normal operation of the cooling system. In this case, the factory settings provide for the operation of the fan only at 50% of its maximum power. This is done so that during operation the cooler does not buzz too much and does not consume a lot of electricity.

Almost all motherboards provide the ability to programmatically control the health of the cooling system. There are several ways to force the fan on a laptop:

Changing the cooler settings can lead to an unpleasant noise during its operation, as well as to accelerated battery discharge. Therefore, before proceeding with radical measures, you should disassemble the laptop, and then clean the fan and motherboard from dust, because it reduces heat transfer and, accordingly, leads to an increase in the temperature of the PC.

Forcing a fan on a laptop

With active use of laptops, especially in the hot season, users often encounter strong heating. Systematic overheating leads not only to slowdown of the OS and periodic self-shutdown of the PC, but also to premature failure of the processor, motherboard or other structural elements. To reduce the temperature of the laptop, you can forcibly turn on the fan included in the laptop cooling system by programmatically changing some of its settings.

Forced fan start via BIOS

To make your laptop cooler work more efficiently, you can change its RPM and set the CPU temperature that it needs to maintain. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Enter BIOS. When loading the laptop, press the Del, F8 or F12 key. It all depends on the motherboard model. If your PC uses the OS quick start function, then to start the BIOS, you first need to go to the “Power supply” section and in the “Power button actions” tab uncheck the box next to the “Enable quick start” line.
  • Open the “Power” menu and go to the Hardware Monitor tab.
  • Prescribe at what power the cooler should work (set as a percentage of the maximum value), or activate an intelligent mode of operation of the cooling system.
  • Exit BIOS after saving the changes made.

The software shell of the Hardware Monitor tab in different BIOS builds may differ. However, if you know which parameters need to be changed, you can easily switch the fan to the required operating mode:

  • in the line CPU FAN speed it is written at what speed the cooler will rotate;
  • CPU Temperature is responsible for the CPU temperature that the fan will keep;
  • CPU Q-Fan Control starts the intelligent mode of the laptop cooling unit (you need to put Enable next to this line).

In smart mode, the cooler can operate with the following parameters:

  • Silent. the emphasis is on quiet operation of the system and saving battery power;
  • Standard. the fan will operate at half its capacity;
  • Performance and Turbo. the maximum overclocking of the fan is performed (in this case, the autonomy of the laptop will slightly decrease, since the cooler will consume a lot of energy).

Forced fan activation using the SpeedFan program

Another way to improve the cooler’s performance is to use special software, which includes the free utility SpeedFan. To overclock the fan using this application, you must:

  • Download and install SpeedFan on your laptop. The installation file takes about 3 MB, so low-speed Internet is also suitable for downloading.
  • Run the program through the shortcut on the desktop, and then in the “Settings” tab change the interface language to Russian.
  • Go to the “Indicators” menu and set the fan power as a percentage. Here you can also view data on the temperature of the hard drive, motherboard and all processor cores.
  • In the “Temperature” window located in the “Configuration” section, set the temperature for the HDD, CPU and motherboard, which will be supported by the cooler. In the “Alarm” line, you can set the temperature value, when exceeded, the program will notify the user about overheating of the system. This will allow you to quickly respond to critical situations.

There are other programs that can force a laptop fan to run. So, using the AMD OverDrive utility, you can make changes to the operation of a PC cooler assembled on the basis of an AMD processor. Riva Tunes has been developed for Intel processors.
