Automatically sync and selectively download photos and videos with Google Photos
The Google Photos mobile client is preinstalled on most smartphones and tablets, but if your device is an exception, install the app from the Play Store.
How to transfer media files from phone to laptop or PC via Bluetooth
Another interesting way that will suit the owners of laptops and PCs with a built-in Bluetooth module. Its implementation can be roughly divided into four stages: turning on Bluetooth on a computer and smartphone, allowing file reception, pairing devices and the process of transferring photos and videos.
Transferring photos and videos via Bluetooth
You can use several applications to transfer photos and videos: a file manager, a gallery program, or the Google Photos mobile client. I prefer to use the latter, so I will consider it as an example.
Launch the Google Photos app, mark the necessary media files and tap on the “Share” button, then click on the “Bluetooth” item located in the “Share via app” block.
Also note that the program allows you to send compressed images and videos instead of the original quality files.
The phone starts searching for devices that are ready to be paired. When the search is completed, a list of them will be displayed on the screen. To select your PC, click on it.
Then the process of sending files will begin, which can be monitored thanks to the progress indicator displayed on the computer monitor and smartphone display.
By default, received files are saved to the Documents folder. To change their location, click on the “Browse” button and select the desired directory. Press the “OK” button to confirm your choice.
To save the files, click on the “Finish” button.
How to download photos and videos to your computer
After completing these steps, your photos and videos will be uploaded to the cloud storage. To view them on a computer, open the page https://photos.google.com and sign in to the Google account you use on your smartphone (if you have not been logged in before).
Media files can not only be viewed but also downloaded. To do this, mark the required photos and videos, click on the “Additional actions” button and select “Download” in the context menu that opens.
An archive containing the files you selected will be created. It remains to download and unzip it.
If a file archiver (for example, WinRAR) is not installed on your computer, use the standard Explorer tools. Click on the archive with the right mouse button, hover over the “Open with” item and select the “Explorer” option from the list.
How to connect to the created server and copy files
Well, now it’s time to decide how the connection to the server will be made. You won’t be able to batch upload files using a browser, and you will have to learn an unfamiliar program to use an FTP client. The best option seems to be the file explorer Explorer, preinstalled on computers with the Windows operating system.
To connect to a server based on a smartphone, the PC and the mobile device must work on the same network. When this condition is met, you can proceed to the connection procedure. To do this, start Explorer and open the “This PC” folder (“My Computer” in older versions of Windows).
Then right-click on an empty area and select “Add a new item to Network Neighborhood” in the context menu that opens.
An information window will pop up. Press “Next”.
After that, click on the item “Choose another network location” and again click on the button “Next”.
In the next window, specify the location of the file server. To do this, enter its network address in the address bar. Let me remind you that all the information required for connection is indicated in the Wi-Fi FTP server application. Click the Next button again.
If anonymous login is allowed, just click on the “Next” button again, then enter the desired network location name and complete the wizard. After that, the location shortcut will be added to the “This PC” folder.
If guest access to the server is denied, uncheck the box displayed in the “Anonymous login” checkbox and enter the username in the corresponding line. Again, click the “Next” button.
Then enter a suitable name for the network location and complete the final step. At the end, click on the “Finish” button, after which the location shortcut will be placed in the “This computer” folder.
You will only need to enter a password, which will be requested when you first log into the server, when you try to open one of the folders. In order not to enter it again every time, check the box in the “Save password” checkbox. To connect, click “Login”.
Then you can go to the “DCIM / Camera” directory and copy the files inside. How to do this is described at the beginning of the article, so I will not repeat myself.
How to transfer photos and videos to a computer using a USB cable
The standard proven method over the years is to use the USB cable that comes with any mobile device. Connect it to one of the full-size USB ports located on the laptop or system unit.
The other side of the cable is made in the form of a microUSB / USB Type-C plug. connect it to the corresponding connector on the smartphone body (usually the microUSB / USB Type-C port is located on the bottom edge of the device).
The phone starts charging, but the files stored on the phone will still not be available for viewing on the computer. To fix this, unlock your smartphone and swipe down from the top of the screen to reveal the notification panel. Then click on the system notification “Charging device via USB” and select the connection type in the dialog box.
Different USB modes may be available depending on the firmware and Android version. Two of them are suitable for transferring photos and other media files: file transfer mode and photo transfer mode (Picture Transfer Protocol, aka PTP).
By choosing the first one, the computer will have access to all directories and files stored on the memory card and internal storage of the device. If you choose the second one, the PC will “see” only those folders that contain photos, screenshots, videos and screencasts recorded by standard means. Typically, these media files are stored in the DCIM and Pictures directories.
To transfer photos and videos to your computer, use any file manager, such as File Explorer, that comes preinstalled on all Windows PCs. Open the DCIM directory and navigate to the Camera folder.
Select the necessary photos and videos, right-click on one of them and select “Copy” from the context menu that opens.
Then navigate to a folder on your computer’s hard drive (for example, Downloads or Pictures) that will serve as a storage location for the transferred files. Right-click on an empty area and select “Paste” from the drop-down list of options.
After completing the above steps, the media transfer will be completed. This process can take a long time if the combined size of photos and videos exceeds several gigabytes, and the computer has a slow hard disk and RAM.
How to enable auto-upload of photos and videos in the Google Photos app
When you open Google Photos for the first time, give the app access to media and other files stored on your device. After that, a window will pop up with a proposal to enable autoloading. click the button of the same name, and then select the quality in which photos and videos will be uploaded to the Google Photos library. Please note that if you select the original media quality, the amount of available space will be limited to 15 GB. High quality photos and videos can be stored in unlimited quantities. Also, if necessary, set a limit on daily traffic usage. To apply the settings, click on the “OK” button.
If you have used the Google Photos application before, you can activate the autoload function as follows: launch the application, click on the profile icon and select “Google Photos Settings”.
Open the “Startup and sync” section and activate the switch. Once you have done this, the basic settings for the function will become available. For example, it will be possible to allow the use of mobile Internet when there is no Wi-Fi connection.

Copy using Bluetooth
This type of data movement will be useful for those who do not have a USB cable. But it should be borne in mind that it will take longer and before starting to perform actions, you must turn on Bluetooth on your mobile device. Not all PCs support this function, and if it does exist, you need to do the following:
- right-click on the Bluetooth icon and click “Add device”;

How to transfer a file from phone to computer via USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
Hello everyone! In this article, we will look at the usual transfer of a file, photo, video or any other information from a smartphone to a computer or laptop. There are actually several ways to transfer data: USB, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. And each of the methods is different in its own way. Next, we will look at all the ways how you can transfer any file from your phone to your computer.
This is the easiest and most efficient way to connect. First of all, you need to find an additional USB cable from your smartphone. In modern smartphones, this cable also connects to the charger block, so you can use it.
- We connect the cable to any free USB port. Sometimes the front ports on the system unit are not connected to the motherboard, so if the connection fails, try a different USB port. It is best to use the rear inputs on the PC system unit.
- Open Explorer or My Computer, where you have all the disks. In the Portable Devices section, you should see your phone. Or an additional drive. We go there and look for the necessary files. Where exactly they will be located, you will need to find yourself, since each smartphone formats and arranges the file system in its own way.
- First you need to turn on the module itself, since it is most often turned off, then you need to activate it. To do this, there are shortcuts on the keyboard. We hold down the “Fn” key, and then in the line of “F” keys we look for the button with the “Bluetooth” icon.
- If you have installed drivers and the model is functioning correctly, then you need to right-click on the Bluetooth icon and select “Add Bluetooth device”. If you do not see the icon, then click on the arrow to see all included applications.
- Next, we connect to the phone. If your smartphone is not in the list, then make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on it. After connecting, in the same way, right-click on the same icon and select “Accept files”.
- And on the smartphone, we select the necessary photos or files and send via Bluetooth.
If you are having difficulty turning on the “Blue Tooth” on a laptop or computer, then proceed to this instruction. It tells you how to turn on Bluetooth correctly and what to do in case of problems and errors.
