Overheating laptop

Overheating a laptop does not always require disassembly or repair. Sometimes a prerequisite for an increase in temperature in the device is improper operation. If the user places his mini-computer on a soft surface, thereby blocking the air flow through the ventilation holes in the bottom panel or closing the lid, when the device is turned on, it will warm up.

Another prerequisite for overheating of the HP Pavilion 15N laptop is a malfunctioning or dirty cooling system. Poor design of this unit is the main reason for the rise in temperature and breakdown of older devices. It often happens that a thick layer of dust covers the fan and radiator, do not let them perform their functions normally. Loss of contact, which is located between the chip and the heat sink plate, leads to a deterioration in the properties of thermal paste, which causes an air gap. The last two phenomena are also a prerequisite for overheating of the HP Pavilion 15N laptop.

Failure of connectors

The connectors, as a rule, “fly out” due to the careless use of the equipment that is connected to these sockets. This is mainly the case for USB ports, since most removable devices are inserted into them. If users use significant force to insert or remove devices, the connectors may fail and require repair or replacement.

The most common causes of breakage in HP Pavilion 15N laptops

The most frequent breakdowns of the device include: failure of connectors, overheating of the laptop, breakdown of the keyboard and matrix.

Replacing the keyboard and matrix

The main signs of a breakdown of the matrix of the HP Pavilion 15N laptop are: cracks, “broken” pixels, vertical or horizontal stripes, dim image or lack of backlight.

How to get started

We start by removing the battery. We also unscrew all the screws on the back of the laptop.

Turning the laptop over and open the lid. Now you need to remove the keyboard. To do this, take a small flat spatula and gently snap it off. The latches are located above the top row of keys. This work must be done with care so as not to damage the laptop case or break the latches.

Lift the keyboard and detach the cable connecting it to the laptop base.

After that, disconnecting all Visible loops and unscrewing all the screws.

Next, you need to remove the laptop case. To do this, use the same flat spatula (you can use a pick, plastic card, etc.). We draw it along the groove along the entire perimeter of the computer, slightly prying the case up. This way you snap off all the latches that hold it. Carefully remove the upper part of the case.

Tools used

First of all, turn off the laptop and remove the battery.

Remove the two screws securing the memory module compartment cover located in the battery compartment.

Remove the memory module compartment cover. Remove the two screws securing the hard drive compartment cover. Remove the cover.

Removing all covers provides access to both memory modules, hard drive, CMOS battery, and wireless card.

Disconnect the hard drive cable from the motherboard. Remove the hard drive assembly from the laptop chassis.

Disconnect the two antenna cables carefully from the wireless card. Wireless card still connected to the motherboard.

Remove the screw securing the DVD drive. Slide the DVD drive to the left and remove it from the laptop case.

Remove the two screws that secure the keyboard.

Removing the keyboard in HP Pavilion dm4 notebooks has its own tricks. It is impossible to remove the keyboard from above, and without damaging it. There is a hole in the DVD drive compartment, which we will use to remove the keyboard.

Very gently squeeze the keyboard through the hole in the DVD drive bay. You can use a thin plastic stick. To separate the keyboard from the top cover, you can continue the removal process using your own hands. To complicate the already difficult process of removing the keyboard, HP glued it to the top cover using double-sided adhesive tape 🙂

Continue to separate the keyboard from the top cover.

Finally, flip the keyboard over and place it face down on the palm rest.

The keyboard cable is now accessible. Disconnect it from the motherboard.

The procedure for opening the keyboard cable connector is shown in the following figure. Gently open the brown tab at a 90 degree angle. DO NOT separate the locking tab from the white base of the connector.

The following illustration shows the keyboard cable connector with the latch open.

Now you can disconnect the keyboard cable from the connector and remove the keyboard.

Remove all screws located on the bottom of the laptop. Two screws are under the supports (highlighted in green).

Remove the rubber mounts with a sharp object and unscrew the screws.

Remove the four screws securing the top cover. Disconnect three cables. The latches of THESE cables are the same latches of the keyboard cable connector.

Carefully begin removing the top cover from the laptop case. Keep removing the cover using only your own hands.

Laptop with top cover removed.

The underside of the top cover. You can now remove (if necessary) the fingerprint reader and power button board.

Disconnect the cable from the motherboard. Pull both antenna cables of the wireless card through the hole in the bottom cover.

Remove the four screws that secure the display hinges.

Now you can remove the display from the laptop case. In the photo, the laptop case with the screen removed.

In HP Pavilion dm4 notebooks, the DC power connector is not soldered to the motherboard. The connector is secured to the wire harness. In case of damage to the power connector, SIMply disconnect it from the motherboard and replace it with a new one.

Reassemble in reverse order.

How to disassemble Asus X53S laptop and clean it from dust

Today we will disassemble, and cleans such a laptop.

I suggest starting by removing the battery from the laptop. Turned the laptop over so that the lower part looked at you, tap the latches and take out the battery, as shown in the picture. The yellow arrows show the direction in which the latches need to be removed, and the red arrow shows the direction in which you need to move the battery to remove it from the laptop case.

The process is very SIMple and NOT intricate, problems should not arise.

Then, turned the laptop over to its normal working position, we begin to dismantle the keyboard. The keyboard is held in a latch housing. By bending these latches, carefully lift the keyboard, since we still have to disconnect the cable, which goes from the keyboard, directly to the motherboard.

The red arrow marks the loop, which we have to disconnect, to completely remove the keyboard.

In the next photo, the arrows mark the screws, which we will definitely have to unscrew. One screw secures the DVD drive and the rest secure the laptop’s top cover.

Next, fold it back and turn the laptop upside down. We take out the optical drive from the laptop case. Then, unscrew all the screws around the perimeter of the bottom cover. In the picture, for example, I noted only one of the screws, in fact there are many more. Finding them will not be difficult.

We proceed to remove the cover from the back of the case. This cover is held on several screws, by unscrewing which, we will remove this cover.

After removing the cover, proceed to removing the Hard Drive. To do this, you need to Unscrew the four screws, and then you can remove the hard drive. Loosen the screws alone Not enough. You need to pull on the hard drive itself so that it disconnects from the connector in which it was connected. In the picture, I marked the connector with a yellow arrow.

Since we have already previously unscrewed all the screws from the bottom and top of the case, it remains only to Disconnect the two halves of the case. They are divided into a lower part and an upper part. It will be convenient to separate them with a guitar pick, stuck it in the gap between the two halves, and walking these picks along the perimeter of the body, unlatching the latches. After all that has been done, remove the upper part of the case.

We find the screws on the motherboard, which fix this motherboard. We unscrew them, as well as disconnect all the wires and loops, if, in our opinion, they can interfere with removing the oregano from the case. Then, just take out the oregano.

Turning over the motherboard we removed, and we begin to remove the cooling fan. Several screws hold it. Naturally, we disconnect the wire from the fan to the motherboard.

In the picture with a yellow arrow, the wire that needs to be disconnected is just marked.

Remove the cooling heatsink from the motherboard. To do this, carefully look at the picture and unscrew all the screws, which in this picture are highlighted with yellow arrows.

After unscrewing the screws, just gently remove the radiator.

All elements of the cooling system are ready for cleaning. We clean off the remnants of the old thermal paste from the cooling radiator. Naturally, we do the same with the chips to which this radiator was attached. Remains of thermal paste will be there too.

Let’s move on to cleaning the fan. The fan is secured to the radiator with adhesive tape. Unstick it and break two THESE elements in half. Everything is perfectly visible in the picture. This will allow us to clean the fins of the cooling radiator and the cooling fan itself faster and better. At the end of cleaning, SIMply attach the fan to the radiator, and glue it with adhesive tape, as it was before starting the cleaning process.

The radiator and fan have been cleaned. Now you need to put everything in place and connect. We apply new thermal paste to all elements where necessary. In the photo, I marked these places with yellow arrows.

Then, carefully and not in a hurry, we screw the radiator together with the fan onto the motherboard. At the same time, DO NOT forget to connect the wire from the fan to the motherboard. Well, then, everything is very SIMple. We are trying to follow the instructions, we assemble the laptop into one piece.

Assemble the laptop correctly and accurately, this will help you.

Performance, cooling and gaming

Hardware component, upgrade and autonomy

The HP Pavilion Gaming 17 under review is equipped with a 45-watt quad-core Intel Core i5 9300H processor with a nominal frequency of 2.4 GHz and a maximum frequency of 4 GHz for all cores. To evaluate and compare performance with other chips, below are the test results in the benchmarks CINEBENCH R15 and Corona 1.3 Benchmark.

The graphics component is answered by the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 card with 4 GB of memory.

The bottom of the laptop is made with a little trick. One gets the impression that it is disassembled in two stages, first the perforated zone, and then the main part, but this is not so. Just a design element. All screws are unscrewed with an ordinary Phillips screwdriver, and we are on target.

READ  How To View Disk On Laptop

In a laptop, you can replace the modem and SSD-drive, increase the RAM (2 slots) and deliver the hard drive. By the way, pay attention to the respect with which the engineers approached the user. Instead of the HDD, our modification has a plastic cap, which is screwed to the carriages and “connected” to the cable. Very cute.

The autonomy of the laptop is provided by a 3-cell lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 53 Wh. When testing it, the following results were obtained (from rounding down):

  • View streaming (balanced mode, brightness 70%). 3 hours 30 minutes,
  • Under load (maximum performance, Final Fantasy XV, 100% brightness). 50 minutes.

From 0 to 100% capacity, the battery charges in 1 hour 40 minutes (up to 90% in 1 hour 20 minutes).

Cooling

The laptop cooling system consists of two fans and two heat pipes. Cold air is sucked in at the bottom, and hot air is blown back.

Cooling tested using AIDA64 stress test and Unigine Heaven benchmark, which load the CPU and GPU by 100%.

CPU test results discrete card (no undervolting)

The processor frequency ranges from 3 to 3.3 GHz, while the temperature is kept around 80 degrees. The maximum temperature of the Card does not even reach 70 degrees, which is good.

CPU Test Results Discrete Card (with 0.145V undervolting)

With undervolting, the average processor frequency increased to 3.7 GHz. The heating of both the processor and the card remained practically unchanged.

CPU test results (with and without undervolting)

If only the processor is stress-tested, then without undervolting, an average of 3.7 GHz is obtained, this frequency is confirmed by the Corona 1.3 benchmark, and with undervolting it rises to the maximum figure. 4 GHz.

Under load, the temperature of the working panel of the HP Pavilion Gaming 17-cd0022 does not even reach 37 degrees. Only a small part of the keyboard near the Enter key (38 degrees) warms up perceptibly. The fan is almost inaudible even during extended gaming sessions, which came as a big surprise. If you need a quiet laptop for gaming or professional work, then look at the HP Pavilion Gaming 17-cd0000.

Review and benchmarks of the mid-range gaming laptop HP Pavilion Gaming 17-cd0022ur, 7JU19EA. Good choice for your money

OVERVIEW of gaming laptop
HP PAVILION 15-BC435UR Today we will consider a new revision of the mid-level gaming laptop HP Pavilion Gaming 17. This line of devices came to the Russian market back in 2018, then it was a regular HP Pavilion, but with productive “stuffing”. The basic versions were good, and we even considered one such device, however, more productive modifications raised many questions.

Then HP launched within the same line of laptops in an alternative case, which implied at least improved cooling. And today we will consider just such a device from all sides, it is called HP Pavilion Gaming 17-cd0022ur, 7JU19EA.

To get started, I recommend Reading the express review of the laptop in question.

Technical specifications HP Pavilion Gaming 17-cd0022ur, 7JU19EA. Screen

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 17-cd0022ur features a 17.3-inch anti-glare IPS display with thin bezels on 3 sides. Our modification has a BOE0825 NV173FHM-N4C matrix with a brightness of 300 nits. The viewing angles are good, and the color rendition is even better, perhaps this laptop can even suit designers.

There are also complaints about the brightness of the screen. In office lighting conditions, they are comfortable to use at 70% for this parameter. There is a stock, and that’s fine.

The sound system of the laptop consists of two speakers tuned by Bang Olufsen staff. They are located in the perforated area above the keyboard and produce a very decent and loud sound. The only problem. Lack of a subwoofer. There is practically no bass. You can listen to music, but not all, but movies and variouss can be watched without problems.

Tests

For an objective assessment of the performance of a laptop, we present the test results:

  • Cinebench R15 (CPU). general processor performance test;
  • 3dmark FireStrike. a benchmark for a comprehensive assessment of the processor and card;
  • Unigine Superposition. a benchmark for evaluating the performance of cards in 3D mode;

The HP Pavilion 17 laptop is made entirely of matte black plastic, which is highly resistant to fingerprints. Button outlines, logo and LED lighting. Green. Looks odd, but better than the already annoying red design elements found in most gaming laptops.

Despite the soiled plastic, I liked the overall design. It clearly states the gaming essence of a laptop, but does not protrude it, unlike, for example, HP Omen laptops.

Ports

The ports are located on the sides of the laptop in question. Left. HDMI output, USB 3.1 connector, RJ-45 network port, USB-C connector (data transfer rate 10 Gbps, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4) and a card reader, and business. Charging socket, two USB 3.1 and audio combo jack.

The laptop has all the ports you need, with full functionality, which is very nice. It’s impossible to find fault.

Keyboard and touchpad

The keyboard shape, as well as the key arrangements, are identical to those found on most HP Pavilion non-gaming machines. However, in this case the keys have a higher profile and more elastic response. Typing was as comfortable as playing.

The keyboard has a two-level green LED backlight. It looks very impressive, especially in the dark.

The touchpad recognizes gestures well and responds well, but as always in HP notebooks, it is long, narrow, and problematic to use. On the other hand, this is a gaming laptop, which means 99% of the time it is used in combination with a mouse.

Let’s sum up

Gaming laptop HP Pavilion Gaming 17-cd0022ur showed itself if not on the “five”, but definitely on the “four with a plus”. The laptop fully justifies its.

Among the advantages of the HP Pavilion Gaming 17-cd0022ur are a balanced filling, a good display, low heating and noise level under load, a decent set of ports, the possibility of an upgrade.

A controversial point. This is the heating of the components themselves. Although 80 degrees under load. than an acceptable result for such “iron”, I would still like the temperatures to be kept at the level of 75-77 degrees.

Of the minuses, we can single out a modest battery life and dimensions. It did not fit into the compartment of a backpack designed for 17.3-inch laptops. With a very strong stretch, you can recall the brand of plastic from which the laptop is made.

If we talk about competitors, the HP Pavilion Gaming 17-cd0022ur definitely behaves better than the Lenovo IdeaPad L340-17 Gaming with a SIMilar “filling”. Also in this price segment there is the MSI GL73 9SC, which is noticeably colder, but much more noisy and is equipped with a TN display. And the last is Lenovo Legion Y540-17, which at the time of this writing is for the author terra incognita.

Disassembly HP Pavilion dv9700 laptop.

In the article, another laptop disassembly. This time, the HP Pavilion dv9700 laptop came across. This laptop has, perhaps, a record number of screws, connectors and different boards from all previously come across. We start disassembling from an upside-down position. We remove the battery. We unscrew all the screws. As already noted, there are quite a few of them, including six under the battery. Removing the hard drive. Remember to Disconnect the antenna connectors of the Wi-Fi adapter and remove it by unscrewing the two screws. Great, they screwed everything up, they didn’t forget anything. If you missed it, it doesn’t matter either, it will quickly become clear when the parts are separated. Turning the laptop over and first of all, remove the cover near the display, while, unforgettably, disconnect the cable. The cover provides access to the keyboard retaining screw. Unscrew these screws and remove the keyboard by disconnecting the ribbon cable. Now it’s the turn of the display cover. Disconnecting the cables and cables, we unscrew the fastening screws, three on the left and one on the right. Remove the display cover. After unscrewing two screws and disconnecting one connector, remove the plastic bar with speakers. To remove the upper case cover, unscrew all the screws and disconnect the cables as in the photo. The screws are marked with red arrows, and the ribbon connectors are yellow. You also need to use the photo to remove the motherboard. The photo does not show the decorative frame at the back of the lid. It must be removed as there are fastening screws under it. To work with the motherboard, you will need to connect it to the power adapter. To do this, you need to remove the Corresponding cable with connectors from the case and connect it to the motherboard. The disassembly process can be seen in the attached article. The reason for disassembling this laptop was the “blade of the NVIDIA chip”. Problem solved.

A SIMilar laptop. In 2010, I had the negligence to spill tea on him. As a result, the keyboard died. What I did not do, as soon as I did not clean. But this is half the trouble! The cooler started spinning at a constant speed. As when turned on, it sets the speed and rushing. DO NOT suspend the temperature. Even once in winter I put it on an open window. One devil! Somewhere at 1500 rpm. Turns around and that’s it. In total, periodic overheating. Everything is clean inside, the cooler is greased, the thermal grease has been replaced. What could be the reason?

What does NVIDIA chip blade mean??

“Chip blade” means a violation of the chip soldering due to overheating or oxidation of the contacts. Restored by tap, reballing and soldering. Sometimes just warming up helps.

And you re-soldered this nvidea chip, pretty monolithic?
Otherwise, there seems to be a problem with the chip, and if it can be restored, it would be nice.

Re-soldering is possible, but the operation is rather complicated and therefore expensive.

I disassembled such a n. Naturally, the first thing that rushes is the number of screws that need to be Unscrewed in order to get to the mother and remove it.

An excellent site for those who repair laptops, as well as use them. I am sure that everyone who is friends with a computer will find here a lot of interesting and useful things for themselves.
