This program is designed specifically to assign another key or a combination of them to any available key. You can also use it to assign multimedia actions and launch various applications. We will not touch on the installation process within the framework of this guide, since it is very intuitive and simple.
- Run the program. In the main window, double-click the left mouse button on the line marked in the screenshot below.
The next step is to specify the environment in which the replacement will work. You can use it everywhere or in a specific application. If it needs to be done everywhere, just skip this step and move on. Otherwise, click the Add Exception button next to the marked line.
In the next window, you need to choose whether the keyboard shortcut will work in a specific program or, conversely, everywhere except for it. To do this, put a check mark next to one of the appropriate lines, and then click the “Add” button.
As a result, a context menu will appear. You can select one of the programs already running on your computer, or you can point the executable file to the desired application on your hard disk.
Choosing the last option, you will see the standard file manager window. Find the desired software in it, select its executable file by single clicking LMB, and then click “Open”.
As a result, the rule name and the selected application will appear in the window for adding exclusions. If necessary, in the same way, you can immediately specify the title of the window to which the created rule will also be applied. When all actions are completed, click the “OK” button.
Next, you will be returned to the key remapping window. In its second field, you must specify the actions or key combination that will be triggered when you click on the previously specified button. Be sure to make sure that the “Synchronous” option is activated in the place indicated in the screenshot (number 3). If you need to assign a multimedia action (change the volume, mute, and so on), then select it from the drop-down list. If necessary, you can add a modifier to the action (by pressing “Shift”, “Ctrl”, “Alt” or “Win”). In the screenshot, this block is shown under number 2. After completing all the actions, click the “OK” button.
A reassignment entry will appear in the main window. In the future, you can always delete, stop or pause it. To do this, right-click on the required line and select the desired action from the context menu. Or click the “Pause” button in the upper right area.
If you need to reassign other combinations, just repeat the steps from this method.
Immediately, we note that the developers of Windows 10 did not provide for the ability to reassign keyboard shortcuts for all commands using system settings. The only combination available for editing is the language change keys. Previously, we described this process in detail in a separate guide, you can familiarize yourself with it at the link below.
To reassign other combinations, use one of the following methods.
Hotkey remapping methods in Windows 10
In total, there are two main ways that you can change the keyboard shortcuts for different actions. The first uses the operating system tools, and the second uses special software. We will tell you about all the nuances of each method further.
Changing keyboard shortcuts in Windows 10
Often all users control the Windows operating system with a mouse. However, the same actions can be performed using special keyboard shortcuts. Unfortunately, they are not always convenient to use, so in this article we will show you how to change them in Windows 10.
This program works on the same principle as the previous one. However, the difference is that many different combinations (“CtrlC”, “CtrlV” and so on), as well as multimedia actions, can be assigned to a specific key. In other words, Mkey is much more powerful than Key Remapper.
- Run the program and first select the language in which its interface will be displayed. Click LMB on the required line and click “OK”.
In the next window, you need to enable special plugins. If you want to use only keyboard elements, check the box next to the second line. “USB HID”. If you plan to assign actions to the mouse buttons, additionally mark the first item. Then click the “OK” button.
In the main window of the program, click the “Add” button in the lower left corner.
After that, you need to click the button to which the selected action will be linked in the future. In this case, you can use additional modifiers “Alt”, “Shift”, “Ctrl” and “Win”. Then give any name to the created entry and click “OK”.
The next step is to select a combination or action that will occur when you press the assigned key. All possible options are divided into three main categories. “Multimedia”, “Actions” and “Keyboard”. They have a list of subsections with acceptable options. We strongly recommend that you look through them yourself, since it will not be enough to describe all the available lines in the article.
If you intend to assign shortcuts to the selected button, then go to the “Keyboard” section and select the “Keys” line. Then, on the right side of the window, check the box next to the line “Emulate clicking”. After that, in the field below, set a key, combination or action. Note that you can use key modifiers when doing this. After completing all the steps, click the save as a floppy disk button in the lower right corner.
Any replacement can be removed if necessary. To do this, select the line with the name of the reassignment and click the button with the same name at the bottom of the window.
The program has the ability to add applications in which the selected changes will not work. To do this, from the main window, go to the “Settings” tab, then at the bottom click on the “Exceptions” section. Please note that you can prevent an application from processing reassignments in full-screen programs. for this, there is a check mark next to the corresponding line. To add additional software to the list of exclusions, click the button in the form of a blue plus sign.
You can choose to add software from those already running, or specify the path to the executable file on the computer. In this example, we use the second option.
As a result, a standard Windows 10 file manager window will open. In it, find the file you are looking for, select it and click “Open”.
In the list of exclusions, you will see the previously added applications. To delete any of them, select the desired line and click on the button with a red cross.
If you have not activated the required platinum in the main menu, then it will simply not be possible to use the keyboard keys, mice and dependent combinations. To fix the problem, simply go to the “Settings” tab from the main program window, and then go to the “Plugins” section. Check the boxes next to the necessary modules and restart the software.
Thus, you learned about the basic methods for easily reassigning hotkeys in Windows 10. In addition, using the described software, you can create your own shortcuts and actions.
How to disable Fn on the keyboard on a laptop
A friend of mine recently bought a Hewlett-Packard laptop. The model is very successful and relatively inexpensive. Although at first I got used to a different keyboard layout for a long time (before that he had been using a Lenovo laptop for many years).
But there was one problem. instead of the function keys F1-F2, their counterparts worked, which should be activated only after pressing Fn. I had to figure out how to disable the Fn button on an HP laptop. I will tell you the solution in the continuation of the article.
What kind of button is this?
In order not to allocate additional space for the location of the sound control keys, wireless modules, touchpad, etc., the developers of compact PCs unanimously decided to use a combination of function keys with simultaneously pressed Fn to perform certain actions. In principle, everything is correct. But sometimes different troubles arise.
For example, instead of maximizing the browser window to full screen, pressing F11 on the keyboard mutes the sound. And you can not immediately determine the cause of the “breakdown”, but spend time looking for a solution.
We’ll have to take extra care when reading the further instructions, since we will have to deal with the BIOS.
- To enter the BIOS, immediately after turning on the laptop, press F10 or Esc (depending on the device). Try!
- Now you need to find the “System Configuration” section of the system configuration, which contains the “Action Keys Mode” item. In it you need to select the option “Disabled”.
- Now we exit BIOS, having previously saved the settings. To do this, press F10. and then the “Y” key (from English Yes).
- Start Windows and check how the function keys work.
This method helped my friend. By the way, it works for Packard Bell laptops too.
Since I’m talking about disabling FN. then I will share the experience of similar experiments with laptops from other manufacturers.
For Asus and Samsung, the instructions are very simple, but experience shows that there are specific models for which the method does not work. Need to try. Try to hit the following combinations:
- Fn NumLk (the latter is responsible for activating the numeric keypad);
- Fn Insert (also called Ins);
- Fn F11 / F12 (test both);
- Sometimes just pressing NumLk helps (which is very strange).
By the way, the first item from this list can be useful for owners of Fujitsu and Acer laptops.
Let’s move on to Toshiba computers. In most cases, such troubles do not happen to them. But there was a case in my practice when the Fn key generally lived its own life and decided for itself when to work and when not.
The best option would be to install the “small” utility HDD Protection. It would seem, what does the protection of the hard drive have to do with it? But if you go to the “Optimization” section of the program and click on “Accessibility”, a window with options will appear. It is here that you need to deactivate Fn by unchecking the corresponding item. It remains only to save all the changes, and the computer does not even need to be restarted.
In this article, I have covered almost all brands. Forgot to mention Dell. To be honest, I have never met any complaints about this manufacturer in the network (on this issue). But if you have a special case, I recommend trying the above methods. If the instructions do not help, I am waiting for your comments for further investigation.
I hope I wasted a few hours of my time writing this article. If it was useful to you, the best gratitude would be a repost on social networks. What if your friends will find this information useful too??
Working with a conductor

Windows 10 Virtual Desktop
Windows 10’s support for virtual desktops is good news. at least not until you’re an independent developer who wrote a utility that does the exact same job! This is the same as having several additional invisible monitors. Each of the virtual desktops can have its own set of applications, while the hotkeys and wallpapers remain unchanged.
WindowsCtrlD key. Creates a new virtual desktop.
Windows key Ctrl Left. Scrolls your desktop to the left.
Windows key Ctrl Right. Scrolls your desktop to the right.
Windows key Ctrl F4. close the current desktop.
Windows Tab key. view all your desktops (and running programs!) Through the “Task view” page.
- Start Ctrl D. add a new virtual desktop.
- Start Ctrl left arrow. using this combination, switch between desktops from right to left.
- Start Ctrl right arrow. using this combination, switch between desktops in the opposite direction.
- Start Ctrl F4. this is how we close the desktop that is currently in use.
- Start Tab. view all desktops and their applications.

Windows 10 version keyboard shortcuts on
What are Windows 10 hotkeys
Skills such as effectively interacting with the keyboard help to quickly manage the operating system and not get tired as you work with it. Windows 10 keyboard shortcuts do this well. Setting to efficiency can force you to learn certain key combinations, which can greatly facilitate the work of the person working at the computer. There are already familiar combinations that are inherited from the previous generation operating systems. It is not necessary to learn such combinations in one day, it is enough to first write down the most necessary ones, and then, as the learning progresses, gradually memorize new ones. All combinations are typed on the keyboard, where the Win button, or Win, or Start, or Start is a key with the image of the Windows logo. In the article, we call it differently for the convenience of those who are used to any one option. But in essence, they are one and the same.
How to disable Windows hotkeys
Windows hotkeys are used to simplify (speed up) the user’s work with the computer. This is accomplished by minimizing user interaction with the mouse.
Most key combinations use the Windows logo key combination with other keys on the keyboard. For example, the keyboard shortcut WindowsM minimizes all open windows. Agree, this is much faster and more convenient than minimizing all windows individually.
Now let’s go directly to the topic of the article. While these keyboard shortcuts are meant to make life easier for the user, in some cases it may be necessary to disable them. How do you disable Windows hotkeys? Let’s look at a few options.
In the window that appears, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
If you have Windows 7 Home Premium, Home Basic or Starter, then use the following instruction to run gpedit.msc.
In the opened window Local Group Policy Editor, on the left in the menu tree, select items User Configuration. Administrative Templates. Components Windows. Explorer Windows
In the list of parameters on the right, we find the line Disable keyboard shortcuts WindowsX and click on it 2 times.
A window will appear in which you need to select the item Enable and press OK.
Close the window Local Group Policy Editor and restart the computer.
As a result of performing the above actions, all hotkeys using the key will be disabled. Windows.
Using Registry Editor
Attention! Incorrect use of Registry Editor can damage your computer’s operating system. Therefore, follow the steps below very carefully. It will not be superfluous to create a system restore point.
In the window that appears, type regedit and press Enter.
The Registry Editor will open and navigate to the next section:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrenTVersion \ Policies
If in paragraph Policies there is a section Explorer, then go to step 7.
Right-click on the section Policies and in the context menu, select the item Create a, then Section.
Rename the newly created section to Explorer.
Right-click on the section Explorer and in the context menu, select the item Create a, then Parameter DWORD (32 bits).
Assigning a name to the created parameter NoWinKeys.
Right-click on the parameter NoWinKeys and select the item Edit.
Enter the value 1 and press OK.
Close the registry editor window and restart the computer.
As with the first option, in this case all hotkeys will be disabled using the key Windows.
Disable individual hotkeys
Both options above disable all hotkeys. But how do you disable individual hotkeys? To do this, follow these steps:
In the window that appears, type regedit and press Enter.
The Registry Editor will open and navigate to the next section:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrenTVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced
Right-click on the section Advanced and in the context menu, select the item Create a, then Expandable string parameter.
Assigning a name to the created parameter DisabledHotKeys.
Right-click on the parameter DisabledHotKeys and select the item Edit.
Next, you need to enter the characters used in the Windows hotkey combinations that you want to disable. For example, if you want to disallow the combinations WindowsR and WindowsE, then you need to assign a value to the string parameter RE.
Now let’s consider an example in which you need to prohibit a combination with a key that is not associated with any letter of the Latin alphabet or number. In this case, you need to use the virtual key codes and the ASCII character code table.
Here we will not analyze what virtual key codes are and give a table of ASCII codes, since there is enough information on the Internet on these issues. Let’s consider just one option using the example of a combination of hot keys WindowsHome.
And so, the key Home corresponds to the virtual key code 24. But in the string parameter DisabledHotKeys you need to enter a character. Therefore, using the ASCII table of character codes, we find which character the number 24 corresponds to. In our case, this is the character
Now if we want to block keyboard shortcuts WindowsR, WindowsE and WindowsHome, needed in a string parameter DisabledHotKeys enter RE value.
Close the registry editor window and restart the computer.
That’s all. Now you know how to disable Windows hotkeys in three different ways.
Laptops from some manufacturers
The devices manufactured by Toshiba deserve special attention. The interest lies in the fact that this brand took care of the possibility of turning off annoying hot keys in advance. it developed a separate utility HDD Protector.
To use the utility, you need to follow the instructions below:
- Download the program from the official website of the developer and install it in the same way as any other application.
- Run the utility and open the “Optimization” tab. All available tools that are used to work with devices connected to the laptop will be reflected here.
- Find the section “Accessibility” and go to it.
- We deactivate the item “Use the Fn key” and save the changes made by clicking on “OK”.
The owner of a Toshiba laptop will not have to search for the desired combination or delve into the BIOS settings. all actions can be carried out through the simplest official utility.
Owners of ASUS can also use the specialized utility. the program is called “HotKeys” and is offered for free download on the official website of the company. Owners of SONY VAIO have the opportunity to make detailed settings for hot keys using the “VAIO Control Center” application. the utility is freely available.
How to disable the F1-F12 buttons on a laptop
While holding down the Fn button. and then pressing F1. F12. you can use one of the functions included in these key combinations. Typically, a similar setting is used on laptops to activate Wi-Fi, put the PC into sleep mode, turn off the touchpad and screen, and change the volume. In this article, we will look at how to disable the F1. F12 buttons on a laptop so that they are not responsible for performing programmed actions.
On some laptops, the Fn button can be disabled by pressing a certain key combination on the keyboard. Most often, the Esc key is responsible for disabling. If this combination did not work, then you need to find the button on which the lock icon with the “Fn” symbol is depicted.
The combinations may not work. Then you can find your model on the manufacturer’s website and check if it is possible to turn off hot keys using the keyboard. Sometimes users accidentally block a key, which makes them lose the ability to use the F1. 12 buttons and think that the responsible key is broken.
Not all laptops provide the ability to block hotkeys using a standard combination. In such situations, blocking can be done via BOIS.
To use the BIOS, you need to perform the following sequence of steps:
- Restart the PC and wait for the start screen, then press the key responsible for invoking the BIOS. Usually, a specific key is indicated on the boot screen, but it can also be found on the Internet by the laptop model (usually manufacturers lay the same key for all their devices).
- Go to the “System Configuration” tab (you need to navigate the menu using the buttons on the keyboard, if the ability to use a mouse is not provided).
- Find the “Action Keys Mode” section, press Enter and move the value to “Disabled”.
- Press F10 to save your settings. Confirm changes.
The methods presented in the article will help solve the problem on almost any laptop. First, we recommend that you check if there is a separate combination reserved for disabling hot keys. If not, then go to the manufacturer’s website and see if a separate utility is offered to users. If unsuccessful, go to the BIOS setup. the method will work in most cases.
For extreme people
Well, as promised, we will destroy all the text by pressing any key.
Press the key combination “CtrlA” (select ALL text), and then any key on the keyboard. All. There is no more text. Only the lonely character that you pressed.
We restore the entire text by pressing the combination “CtrlZ” and try not to do this anymore.
That’s all for today. Good luck and creative success to everyone.

Delete with the “Del” and “Backspace” keys
As an example, we will change the duration of the vacation and, accordingly, the number of calendar days by using both keys. “Delete” and “Backspace”.
Move the mouse pointer to the place indicated in the figure and click the left mouse button to fix the cursor in this position.
Changing the duration of the vacation. To do this, start pressing the “Backspace” key.
One keystroke deletes one character to the left of the cursor position (by the way, “Tab” is also one character). over, the text that is placed to the right begins to shift to the left. “crawl after the cursor”.
Thus, by pressing the “Backspace” key 12 times, I delete the date “06/30/2013.”
Now we just write the date we need. “06/16/2013.”
I start pressing the “Del” key. Each key press deletes the character above the cursor. In this case, all symbols that are to the right begin to “crawl to the left”. It seems that this key erases characters that are to the right of the cursor.
On the other hand, if we discard all conventions, then this is the way it is.
So, I press the “Del” key 13 times.
That is, in principle, all the subtleties of work using standard delete keys.
Removing selection using hotkeys.
Well, what if it’s hard for you to select the desired fragment with the mouse. Well, it just doesn’t work out exactly what you need. There can be many reasons. Or the mouse jumps, and the pointer “jumps somewhere.” Or just waved with an ax or a sledgehammer and now you have no time for “millimetry”.
In many cases, it is convenient to select text fragments with hot keys.
To do this, use the “Shift” key in conjunction with the cursor keys. The keys that we will use in our example are highlighted in yellow in the figure.
We fix the cursor, as at the beginning of our lesson.
Then press the “Shift” key :. While holding down the key, press and release the “left arrow” key: until the required piece of text is highlighted.
As soon as the required piece of text is selected, release the “Shift” key.
Well, then, as in the previous case, we simply type a new date. The selection will disappear immediately after entering the first character.
Removal by selection
This is all good and great if you need to delete multiple characters. And if the sentence or paragraph?
Sit and stupidly press the “Del” or “Backspace” keys?
For such purposes, use the technique “removal by selection”.
You have already learned how a piece of text is highlighted in the previous lesson. We will not repeat ourselves.
And now we just start to enter the date “06/16/2013.” The first entered character (in our case “1”) will delete the entire selected fragment.
Similarly, we correct the number of calendar days.
over, in such cases, it is the selected fragment that is deleted. It doesn’t matter if it’s a single symbol, word, sentence, or paragraph. The entire selection will be deleted after entering the first character.
Novice computer users
Let’s take a look at 2 more keys that we did not consider, but which are the most used. the delete keys.
The functionality of these keys is clear. to destroy information (though not all, but with which you are currently working).
These keys are called “Del” or “Delete” (del, delate). deleting what I see above the cursor and “Vaskspace” (buckspace). deleting the space in front of the cursor (to the left of the cursor or, if the literal translation from English is the backspace).
To be honest, the information can be destroyed with any key on the keyboard. We will also consider this example, since this is a “sore spot” for any computer user, be it a novice user or a guru.
True, there is nothing terrible in this, but the nerves “tickle”.
There are usually two “Delete” keys on the keyboard and they look like or
The “Vaskspace” key can always look like this. So. so or so.
On a standard computer keyboard, the location of the delete keys is shown in the figure.
As for laptop owners, these keys can be located in the most unexpected places, and even work only in conjunction with the “Fn” key.
When I bought myself a laptop, I was looking for 5 minutes where the “Del” key is located, and then for another 5 minutes I tried to figure out how it works
When and which key is more convenient to use, let’s look at an example.
To see how these keys work, we’ll experiment with our “Statement” created in the previous tutorial.

Live and learn! Didn’t know about selection with Shift and arrows. thank!
And not only with the arrows, but with all the cursor keys:
ShiftHome. select text from cursor to start of line
ShiftEnd. select text from the cursor to the end of the line
ShiftPageUp. select text from the cursor to the beginning of the page
ShiftPageDown. select text from the cursor to the end of the page
True, some editors have nuances, but the principle is the same everywhere
hello on my PC. there is a Windows7 Home Prem OA Aser Group system with a Spanish keyboard and there is no such thing as shown by you, they are hidden under some other symbols, explain.
1. The keyboard has nothing to do with the operating system, Windows in particular. Like the operating system to the keyboard.
The operating system performs operations with numbers “0” and “1” (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, inversion), as well as input-output operations.
One of the elements for entering information on the computer itself is the keyboard. Others can be mouse, touchpad, etc.
The output can be a monitor, printer, file, etc.
2. Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese there are no keyboards.
The de facto standard is only English with Latin letters. Why?
Because the operating system management commands are in English only.
3. Spanish, Russian, Russian typing, Ukrainian, Chinese, Thai there are keyboard layouts.
See where on your keyboard are located which characters (in particular the delete keys) you can when viewing the Spanish layout on your computer.
How this is done is described in my lesson “Keyboard Layout”.
4. In the figure I have a standard keyboard with 105 keys, which is the most common for personal computers.
For laptops and netbooks, the number of keys and their locations can vary greatly.
But in any case, and on any keyboard, the delete keys “Del” and “Vaskspace” are present.
Again, where can be seen when viewing the layout itself.
