How To Find Out Which Laptop Model I Have

Blog of the young admin. A fascinating blog of enthusiastic IT specialists. How to find out which sound card I have on my computer?

A sound card (sometimes called a sound card) is an optional device for your computer that allows you to process sound. Initially, the boards were separate cards, a little later they began to be integrated into motherboards in order to save money. It is clear that such cards produce far from the best sound, and if you are a music lover, you should purchase a separate sound card.

The first external sound card can be considered a device from Covox Inc. It connected to the printer port of the IBM PC and allowed mono digital audio to be played. The IBM PC, by the way, was initially notable for its lack of sound, since it was created for solving business and scientific problems. The only sound it made was the sound of the built-in speaker, which is needed to indicate faults. This was in 1986. Interestingly, this device was one of the most popular on the market for the next 10 years, although by the end of the 80s of the last century, audio cards from other manufacturers began to appear on the market.

Modern audio cards DO NOT differ in large dimensions and take up little space, do not speak of built-in ones. Many users do not even know their sound card model, which, in general, is not at all surprising. the main thing is that there is sound. But in fact, you need to know the model of the card at least in order for you to update the drivers on it if something happens. For example: you turn on the computer and the sound disappears. Through trial and error, you figure out that you just need to reinstall the drivers.

Today I will tell you how to find out the name of your audio card.

Method one

I will show an example based on the Windows 7 operating system, but in fact the method is also suitable for second versions of Windows, including XP or 8.

First thing we need to do is open the Device Manager. You can get into it in various ways. For example, hover your mouse over the “Computer” icon on your desktop, right-click and select “Properties”.

A window will open to view information about your computer. On the right side of the window there is a “Device Manager” icon. click on it.

Now the device manager we need has opened. Here we see a list of devices, but we are only interested in “Sound and game devices”. Click on the icon and you will see a list of Audio Map.

It is important NOT to get confused as there may be other media devices here. In addition, the name of the audio card in my case (Realtek High Definition Audio) is incomplete, since the card is built-in. If you have a separate sound card, its name will be reflected in full.

Method three

If you are using an external sound card, then you probably have left the packaging from it. Find the last one and see the device name on it.

Traditionally, you can ask your questions using comments.

Method two

If you need to find out the exact name of the audio card, even if it is built-in, third-party software will help you. On the site, I have already repeatedly mentioned a program for viewing the configuration of a computer. One of the most popular programs is undoubtedly Everest. Yes, the program is paid, but for the first 30 days you can use it for free, and if you like it (and you will definitely like it), you can purchase it.

So, download Everest on the official website, install it on your computer, and then launch it. Having opened the program, we find the subsection “Multimedia”. “Audio PCI / PnP” and see the full name of the audio card on the right side of the screen.

Comments on the entry “How do I know which sound card I have on my computer?

I saw only some letters with numbers, I cannot recognize the model itself even with the help of Google. I’ll try to put this Everest.

Bet Everest sees everything! He will definitely help!

Or it may be that I have no sound, but there is sound?

Built-in can be

For some reason, not a single way helped (

But I never figured out the name of the sound, not a single program shows the name (

It can not be so. You just did something wrong.

What sound card do you need in a Samsung laptop for singing karaoke? Device Manager has Intel (R) Audio for displays and Realtek High Definition Audio. Is that enough or not? thanks.

VIA HD audio is sound ?

I only write Device with high definition audio support
and that’s it! And not a single program can find a driver for it, I sit without sound!

Help! I uninstalled the microphone driver once and lost the sound! No reinstallation helps. Devices appear in the list but do not work and writes the output device is not installed! Maybe this device itself is missing.

I display the same card name, can you help? After connecting new headphones, sound disappeared everywhere, micro does NOT record either. Writes on all devices. it works fine. I tried a lot, even got into the BIOS, it did not help.

Third Party Programs

There are many programs that provide detailed technical information about the device. The most popular and informative is AIDA64, which displays information about the screen as well. This program has a 30-day trial period, which is more than enough to find the answer to the Question posed.

  • Install the program and run it.
  • Expand the “Display” tab and go to the “Monitor” subsection.

Find the term “Monitor Type” and the number that will be indicated opposite the heading means the screen diagonal in inches.

If the software version of the definition is not your case, go to the next.

How to find the diagonal of the laptop screen

In certain situations, the user may need information about the diagonal of the screen in a laptop or PC monitor. Since not everyone is able to determine it by eye, despite the presence of standards in the dimensional grid, it remains to resort to alternative solutions to this issue.

Find out the diagonal of the laptop screen

There are several ways to determine the diagonal at once, allowing you to quickly find the required information. First, let’s list what requires a minimum amount of effort and time from the user.

The easiest way to do this is to find a sticker on the device body. This is usually where basic information is located, including screen size.

Users who do not know the laptop model can find technical documentation or the packaging of the device. they always indicate the data of interest regarding the purchased laptop model.

In a situation where all these methods cannot be used, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with two other options, more complex, but effective.

Manual measurement

A SIMple method that requires any measuring tool from you. ruler, tape measure, tape centimeter.

Attach ruler origin to any bottom corner of the screen. Stretch it to the opposite upper corner (left to right or right to left) and look at the number in centimeters.

You have learned several easy ways to determine the diagonal of a laptop or computer screen. As you can see, this is easy to do even in the absence of technical data and the Internet. This knowledge can be useful both for determining the diagonal of your device and when choosing a used device, where you should NOT rely on the information provided by the seller, but scrupulously check everything yourself.

EVEREST

The first and more professional way is to use the EVEREST program. In the “Menu” tab, select “Devices. Windows Devices”. Case we click on the shortcut “adapters” see Figure:

At the bottom of the window, we can even observe the main parameters of our map:

Through system information

We go “Start. All Programs”:

Find “Service” and click “System Information”

In the window that opens, open the “Components” item and select “Display”

We open all the parameters that relate to our adapter. This is both type and description. But the most important thing is that in this way we can find out the amount of memory of the graphics adapter in MB. The screenshot shows that I have a 512 MB card.

How to find out which card is on the computer?

The question, though primitive, is often asked. In fact, it is quite easy to see which card is installed on your computer.

Find out the map if Windows 10 is installed

In principle, all of the above methods are suitable for the Windows 10 operating system, you just need to know that in order to get to the control panel here you need to right-click on Start.

And in order to open information about the system, you need to click “Start. All Applications. Windows Administration Tools”:

DirectX Diagnostic Tool

Press the WinR key combination to pop up the “Run” window and enter the dxdiag command in it and then click OK.

In the window that opens, go to the “Screen” tab. In which we can observe the name and manufacturer of our card:

Recognizing your map in Windows 7

Via device manager.

Using this method, we will be able to calculate our card even if no drivers are installed on it.

Go to “Start. Control Panel”. We put “View: Small icons” and select the item “System”:

Next, in the window that opens in the upper left corner, select “Device Manager”:

We find “adapters” and observe our map.

If you have an unidentified device in your adapters, then most likely no drivers are installed on it. This can be fixed by finding out the code of the instance of this device and using it to find the driver.

To do this, right-click in the device manager and select the “Properties” item from the drop-down menu:

Next, in the window that opens, go to the “Details” tab. In the “Property” section, select the “Equipment ID” parameter.

Copy the value. This is the instance code of our device. You can copy it and use some service to search for drivers by code.

It can be devid.Info or driverslab.Ru

We fill in the code in the field, find the driver and Install. After installing the driver, you will naturally appear the name of your card in the device manager.

Who still has XP

If you do not really want to install this program, you can use the standard Windows tools. To do this, click Start. Control Panel. System. Go to the “Hardware” tab and click on the “Device Manager” button, then click on the “adapters” shortcut and observe the name of our card.

By the way, using the EVEREST program, you can find out information Not only about the card, but about almost all the components of your computer.

If the drivers are not installed on the card, then you can find out its model and manufacturer, read the article “How to find drivers by the device instance code”

Update as of 05/01/17

I wrote this article back in 2010. Seven years have passed and during this time more than a million people have read it. In this regard, I decided to give this publication a new life. While the information here is mainly for Windows XP, I add two more items for Windows 7 and for Windows 10.

The method is only available in Windows 10

Click “Start. Options”

Next, in the next window, select “System”

In the “Screen” tab, click on the link “Additional screen parameters”

And in the next window, click on “Graphics adapter properties”

Here we are displayed information about our card:

That’s all dear friends. I tried to present the information in a very accessible and compact manner, I hope you found the answer to your question.

How To Find Out Which Laptop Model I Have

We look under the battery (battery)

Usually, on the case under the battery and on the battery itself, the model and other data of the laptop from HP, Asus and Acer are written.

I will give an example on an Asus laptop.

As you can see, on the battery this inscription is found in two places, on the front and where the contacts.

How to find out your laptop model. fast and proven ways

Hello friends, glad to see you on our blog moicom.Ru. In this article I will tell you and clearly show you how to find out the laptop model.

In the last episode, we learned how to take a screenshot in a couple of clicks. Today we’ll talk about laptops, how to determine their model and main characteristics.

Find out the model

Advanced computer users probably know how to do this, but there are also people who do not know this. So, especially for you, I decided to write this article on how to determine the laptop model.

Aida64 and Everest programs

If you would like to obtain detailed information about the characteristics of your computer, you can use the Separate Third Party Programs. I am used to working with Everest, I use Aida64 less often. Of course, there are other programs, but I will not touch on them in this review.

Everest and Aida64 are SIMilar utilities, they have almost the same functionality and interface, only the names are different.

You can download these two programs from the links below:

Command line or CMD

You can also view the computer model through the command of the term, for this we press the key combination, enter and press Enter. If you want to know more about the keyboard buttons and how to use them to the maximum, then I recommend reading the article Windows 7 keyboard shortcuts.

In the black window that appears, you need to enter the combination and press Enter.

After that, you should see the message Name and the model of your laptop. Here’s an example:

Additional ways to find out which card using Windows

In addition to the methods already described, in Windows 10, 8 and Windows 7 there are additional system tools that allow you to get information about the model and manufacturer of the card, which can be useful in some cases (for example, if access to the device manager is blocked by the administrator).

Viewing Card Information in DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag)

All modern versions of Windows have installed and or another version of DirectX components designed to work with graphics and sound in programs and games.

These components include a diagnostic tool (dxdiag.Exe) that allows you to find out which card is on your computer or laptop. To use the tool, follow these SIMple steps:

  • Press the WinR keys on your keyboard and type dxdiag into the Run window.
  • After downloading the diagnostic tool, go to the “Display” tab.

The specified tab will indicate the model of the card (or, more precisely, the graphics chip used on it), information about the drivers and memory (in my case, for some reason, it is displayed incorrectly). Note: The same tool allows you to find out the version of DirectX in use. Read more in the article DirectX 12 for Windows 10 (valid for other OS versions as well).

How to find out which card is in a computer or laptop

Not so long ago, I wrote on how to correctly install or update drivers on a card, also slightly touching on the question of how, in fact, to find out which card is installed in a computer or laptop.

In this manual. in more detail on how to find out which card is in Windows 10, 8 and Windows 7, as well as in cases when the computer does NOT boot (plus on the topic at the end of the manual). Not all users know how to do this, and Faced with the fact that a controller (VGA-compatible) or a Standard VGA graphics adapter is written in the Windows Device Manager, they do not know where to download drivers for it and what exactly needs to be installed. And games and programs using graphics do not work without the necessary drivers. See also: How to find out the socket of the motherboard or processor.

How to find out the card model if the computer or laptop won’t turn on

One of the possible options is the need to determine which card on the computer or laptop does NOT show signs of life. In this situation, all that can be done (except for the option of installing the card in another computer) is to study the markings or, in the case of an integrated adapter, to study the processor specifications.

Desktop cards usually have markings on the “flat” side of the sticker to identify the chip used on the side. If there is a clear marking, as in the photo below, then the manufacturer’s model identifier may also be present there, which can be entered in a search on the Internet and most likely the first results will contain information about what kind of card it is.

To find out which card is installed in your laptop, provided that it does not turn on, the easiest way is to search for the specifications of your laptop model on the Internet, they should contain such information.

If we are talking about identifying a laptop card by marking, it is more difficult here: it can only be viewed on the graphics chip, and in order to get to it, you will need to remove the cooling system and remove the thermal paste (which I do not recommend doing this, for those who are not sure that knows how to do it). On the chip, you will see a marking something like the photo.

If you search the Internet for the identifier marked in the photos, the very first results will tell you what kind of chip it is, as in the following screenshot.

Note: the same markings are on the chips of desktop cards, and you will also have to “get to” them by removing the cooling system.

For integrated graphics (built-in cards), everything is easier. just search the Internet for the specifications of your processor model of your computer or laptop, the information, among other things, will include information about the integrated graphics used (see screenshot below).

How to find out the card model using Windows Device Manager

The first thing to try to see which card is on the computer is to go to the device manager and check the information there.

The fastest way to do this in Windows 10, 8, Windows 7 and Windows XP is to press the Win R keys (where Win is the OS logo key) and enter the command devmgmt.Msc. Another option is to right-click on “My Computer”, select “Properties” and launch the Device Manager from the “Hardware” tab.

In Windows 10, the “Device Manager” item is also available in the context menu of the Start button.

Most likely, in the list of devices you will see the “adapters” section, and when you open it, you will see your card model. As I already wrote, even if the adapter was detected correctly after reinstalling Windows, for its full operation, you should still install the official drivers instead of those provided by Microsoft.

READ  After The Update, The System Starts On The Laptop

However, another option is also possible: the adapters tab will display “Standard VGA graphics adapter”, or, in the case of Windows XP. “controller (VGA-compatible)” in the “Other devices” list. This means that the card was not detected and Windows does not know which drivers to use for it. I’ll have to find out the most.

Using the System Information Tool

Another Windows utility that allows you to get information about the card is “System Information”. It starts in a SIMilar way: press the WinR keys and enter MSInfo32.

In the system information window, go to the “Components”. “Display” section, where in the “Name” field it will be displayed which adapter is used in your system.

Note: MSInfo32 does not correctly display the memory of the card if it is more than 2 GB. This is a Microsoft confirmed issue.

Device detection using AIDA64 software

Another good way to get complete information about the hardware of your computer is to use the AIDA64 program (which replaced the previously popular Everest). With this program you can not only learn about your card, but also many other hardware characteristics of your computer and laptop. Despite the fact that AIDA64 is worthy of a separate review, here we will talk about it only in the context of this manual. You can download AIDA64 for free on the developer’s website http://www.Aida64.com.

The program, in general, is paid, but 30 days (albeit with some restrictions) works great and in order to determine the card, a trial version is quite enough.

After starting, open the “Computer” section, then. “Summary information”, and find the item “Display” in the list. There you can see the model of your card.

Find out which card using Device ID (equipment identifier)

The first method, which most often works, is to identify the installed card using the equipment ID.

In Device Manager, right-click on the unknown VGA adapter and select Properties. After that, go to the “Details” tab, and in the “Property” field, select “Equipment ID”.

After that, copy any of the values to the clipboard (by right-clicking and selecting the appropriate menu item), The key for us are the values of two parameters in the first part of the identifier. VEN and DEV, which designate, respectively, the manufacturer and the same device.

After that, the easiest way to determine what kind of card model it is is to go to the site http://devid.info/ru and enter VEN and DEV from the device ID in the upper field.

As a result, you will receive information about the adapter itself, as well as the ability to download drivers for it. However, I recommend downloading drivers from the official website of NVIDIA, AMD or Intel, especially since now you know which card you have.

How to find out which card is installed-

And finally. an instruction that shows all the main ways to find out the model of the card or integrated graphics adapter.

There are other ways to identify your adapter: for example, when automatically installing drivers using Driver Pack Solution, the card is also detected, although I do not recommend this method. One way or another, in most situations, the methods described above will be quite enough for the set goal.

Find out the laptop model: ten available ways

To prevent compatibility issues when replacing components or connecting new equipment, you need to know the laptop model. Several proven ways will be considered below, thanks to which the question of how to find out the laptop model will cease to be difficult for you.

Using software tools

If the information you are interested in is NOT indicated either on the case or on the battery, then you can resort to software methods to determine the exact model of the laptop. Let’s try to do it through the command line:

  • Click WinR.
  • Enter the request “cmd”.
  • Enter “wmic csproduct get name”.

A model of your laptop will appear in the Windows interpreter window. you just have to rewrite it or remember it. If you are not friendly with the command line, or just want to double-check the information, look at your laptop model in the System Information window.

  • Click WinR.
  • Enter “MSInfo32”.
  • See the terms “Manufacturer” and “Model”.

The manufacturer line indicates a specific brand. Sony Vaio, Dell, Lenovo. The model is indicated by numbers and Latin letters. Here you need to be careful: within the series, laptop models may differ in one sign.

Since we have gone through the system utilities, the DirectX diagnostic tool will not pass by. Despite the implicit attitude to the question of determining the laptop model, here you can also find all the necessary information:

  • Click WinR.
  • Enter “dxdiag”.
  • See the terms “Manufacturer” and “Model”.

These are proven options, working on laptops of all manufacturers, whether they are the mainstream Samsung or the rarer MSI. There are other ways: for example, sometimes the information about the laptop is pinned in the “System Properties” section. To open it:

  • Right click on “Computer”.
  • Select “Properties”.
  • Find the term “Model”.

Note: This method does not work on all laptops. For example, Asus with Windows 10 installed in the system properties does not contain such information.

Another option is to look at the laptop information in the BIOS. Reboot the laptop and press Del (maybe another key) until the Basic I / O system window appears. There should be an “Info” tab, inside which basic information about the device is indicated.

Laptop case, stickers, battery

There is little hope for packaging from a laptop or some documents. usually all this is thrown away immediately after buying a laptop. But if you still have the instruction manual, you can see the information in it in the laptop.

A more realistic way is to find stickers on the front or bottom of your laptop. They contain complete information about the device, including the manufacturer, series and model. For example, Acer Aspire 5745G.

If the stickers are torn off, try looking at the model on the laptop battery. Flip it over and find two latches (maybe one). Slide them to the open position and remove the cover to remove the battery. The manufacturer (e.g. HP or DNS) and the series and model will be written on the battery.

Computer health monitoring utilities

Notebook Information Provides various programs for measuring temperature and other device performance. For example, you can use the HWMonitor utility.

  • Download and install the program.
  • Run HWMonitor.
  • Look at the first term (right after DESKTOP).

The line will contain the manufacturer of the laptop (HP, Lenovo) and its model. You can double-check the data using the AIDA64 program. Although it is a paid utility, it has a trial period (for 30 days), which is enough to determine the laptop model.

  • Run the utility.
  • Expand the “Computer” tab.
  • Open the “DMI” item.
  • Go to the “System” section.

There are a lot of programs that provide detailed information about the computer; you can view the laptop model in any junk for system monitoring. By the way, after receiving the necessary information, you should not delete these programs. Use them to constantly be aware of the temperature of the processor and card.
