How to find out the Wi-Fi password from a computer

If there is at least one computer on which a connection to a wireless network is already configured and working, then it is quite easy to find out the password for Wi-Fi. Further, it will be shown how to do this for a device running under Windows 7, for the second operating systems, the process will be almost completely SIMilar.

You can also get here in a faster way. To do this, find the local or wireless network icon in the tray, right-click. Next, select the network whose password we want to find out by calling the context menu. by right-clicking and selecting the “Properties” item.

How to find out the password from Wi Fi

Hello dear readers! In this article, we will figure out how to find out the password for Wi Fi. Nowadays, more and more devices that we use in everyday life receive built-in means for accessing the Internet. To organize common access to the global network of smartphones, laptops, media players, TVs and other equipment, it is necessary to unite all devices into a single network.

The organization of such a network is not easy enough and requires certain knowledge, so many users trust this process to friends, acquaintances or specialists. It often happens that after finishing work, specialists DO NOT leave any configuration data, unless, of course, they are not specifically asked about it. Some do not give THIS data, because they want you to call it the next time, or they may SIMply forget or find it unnecessary. At the initial stage, there is a special need to know these data. everything works anyway, the task is completed and there is no desire to bother oneself with unnecessary details. But over time, new devices appear, which would also be nice to connect to the network, and then the question arises. how to find out your password from Wi-Fi.

Attention! If you are calling a specialist who sets up Wi-Fi, then be sure to ask him for the password and write down so as not to forget.

If you are not aware of what Wi-Fi is, in this case I recommend reading the article on the blog “What is Wi-Fi”.

Recently I read somewhere that according to statistics, more than half of all users use a wireless Internet connection, which implies the presence of a special device called a router. This is a device that identifies all devices on the network and shares them on the Internet. One of the main signs by which a router lets “its” users pass is a password. It is installed for the entire network and checked on every connection request. Therefore, if the password is not known, then in order to carry out any actions related to changing existing parameters or registering new devices, it must be restored. You can, of course, call the person who set up Wi-Fi again, but this will take time and money. So we come to the very topic of the article;).

How to find out or change your wi-fi password on a router

If there are computers connected via Wi-Fi, then you can change the password in the router settings. We will consider this process using the example of a Huawei HG530 Wi-Fi router. To enter the control menu, in the browser line, we type the address (in other models this value may be different, if it does not work, then look at the instructions).

If you do not know the IP address of your router, then you can find it out on your computer, which has an Internet connection, through this router. So, we have this computer, now we click on the network with the left mouse button and click “Network and Sharing Center” (showed another way to get into the network management settings).

On the left, click “Change adapter parameters”.

Now you need to right-click on the connection that is used to access the Internet. In my case, I am currently using Wi-Fi, which means I need a “Wireless Network Connection”. In the context menu, click “State”.

In the window that opens, click “Information.”.

In this window you need to find the term “IPv4 Default Gateway”. Namely, what is to the right is the IP address of the router, in which we need to go. And by “DHCP. IPv4 server” you can find out if the router gives out an IP address automatically.

If you didn’t know, the router can distribute the IP address automatically (DHCP), and if automatic distribution is disabled, then you need to register the IP address, this method is called static. As I said above, my IP:

If everything that I said above did not help, then there is another option. Pay attention to the back of your router or rarely from the bottom, there may be a sticker on which IP addresses are sometimes written. Sometimes I meet when the router settings are right on the router itself.

I am attaching a photo below so that you roughly understand where to look for this information.

Now open any browser and enter the IP address of your router in the address period, press “Enter”.

A standard window will appear where you need to enter a username and password to enter the router menu. By default, as a rule, it is admin-admin (again, in case of difficulties, we study the instructions, or Pay attention to the sticker), these parameters are rarely changed. If the admin password doesn’t work, you can try pass or password.

It happens that the login is without a password at all, just enter admin and press “Login”. After entering correctly, we find ourselves in the main menu:

In my router, you need to click “Basic”. “Wireless Lan”.

As you can see from the screenshot above, now my password is “Abracadabra” (for example). In some routers, it is impossible to view the existing password, but you can find the inscription “Password Viewer”, “Click here to display” or something SIMilar next to the password. I clicked on the corresponding inscription, the password from Wi-Fi appears. If the router has a password viewing function, then you can enter your password, that is, change it.

You may of course be a little different. For example, you need to click on “Wireless”. “Security”. As you understand, even if there are some differences, you can still roughly understand where the settings for Wi-Fi are. If there are no inscriptions related to Wi-Fi, then we just go through all the sections.

A small warning: if you change the network name, you will have to reconnect all devices. If you just change the password, then the network connections will remain the same, they just need to replace the old password with a new one.

This is how you can quickly and easily, and not contacting outsiders to find out or change the password for your wireless Wi-Fi network.

Also, in order to find out the password for Wi-Fi, you can consider the option when you can call the specialist who set up your router. But you need to be prepared to answer that he forgot it and did NOT write himself down in a notebook. Usually they answer that you need to come and see the password, if you even ask how to do it yourself, then you most likely will not wait for a positive answer. There is a stick of two ends, he wants you to pay him money, because he needs to come to you, he spent his time, for which naturally you will need to pay.

Important! Be sure to create a password for Wi-Fi, you probably guessed what I want to tell you now. There are people who are not averse to sitting on the Internet at someone else’s expense, and if you also have a limited Internet, then you will always be at a loss to understand where your traffic goes. If you do not know how you can track incoming / outgoing traffic, then read the article “Traffic Counter”.

This concludes the article, see you soon!

But there is also an option to see all the keys from all Wi-Fi networks (passive) ever connected to your laptop. This is where the command line comes in. We will tell you in detail how to use it now.

  • We run the command line, this must be done on behalf of the Administrator. It is located in the “Start”. Expanding the “Service Windows” tab, we find the command term. Click on it with the right mouse button and select “Advanced”. We select “Run as Administrator.” Or, SIMply, in the search bar, enter “cmd.” A black rectangle with the name of the command line will appear at the top.
  • We type the command “netsh wlan show profiles”. A list of Wi-Fi networks will appear, your task is to remember or write down the names of the network you are interested in.
  • Next, we drive in the command “netsh wlan show profile name = name of the required network key = clear”. Suddenly the name of the network will consist of several words, then you will need to put it in quotation marks. In total, you will have data on the network. The Security Settings section will contain the key you need.

Fast, easy, reliable, we showed you how you can find your password thanks to the command line.
