Connect laptop to monitor via HDMI

We connect the laptop to the computer via HDMI

To complete this process, you need a working system unit, an HDMI cable and a laptop with an HDMI-in connector. All settings will be done on the PC. The user only needs to perform a few simple steps:

Take an HDMI cable, insert one side into the corresponding HDM-in connector on the laptop.

Now you should start the laptop. If the image did not transfer automatically, press Fn F4 (on some laptop models, the switch between monitors can be changed). If there is no picture, adjust the screens on the computer.

connect, laptop, monitor, hdmi

Go to the “Configuring display settings” section.

You can now use your laptop as a second monitor for your computer.

We use a laptop as a monitor for a computer

If you need to connect a second monitor to a computer, but it is not available, then there is the option of using a laptop as a display for a PC. This process is carried out using only one cable and a small setting of the operating system, but there is one very important note. Let’s take a closer look at this.

Nowadays, most laptops are equipped with an HDMI-out connector, and it only allows you to output an image, not receive it. Therefore, only models with HDMI-in are suitable for connection, which are very few on the market. To determine this information, refer to the laptop manual or the manufacturer’s official website. If information about HDMI-in is not indicated anywhere, then the model is equipped with the first connector option, which is not suitable for our purpose.

Alternative connection option

There are special programs that allow you to remotely control your computer. Using them, you can connect your laptop to your computer via the Internet without using additional cables. One of the most popular programs is TeamViewer. After installation, you only need to create an account and connect. Read more about this in our article at the link below.

In addition, there are many more programs for remote access on the Internet. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the full list of representatives of this software in the articles on the links below.

In this article, we walked through the process of connecting a laptop to a computer using an HDMI cable. As you can see, there is nothing difficult about this, if the laptop is equipped with HDMI-in, the connection and setup does not take much time, and you can immediately start working. If the signal quality does not suit you or, for some reason, the connection cannot be made due to the lack of the required port, we suggest considering an alternative option in more detail.

Enabling HDMI

It is automatically enabled on all HDMI devices. Users only need to make a few simple settings so that the connection of the two devices is successful, and a clear picture and sound appears on the screen.

Usually, it is enough to change just a few parameters of the operating system and you can immediately start working on the equipment. For detailed instructions on connecting computers and laptops to a monitor via HDMI, see our articles on the links below.

Causes of HDMI malfunction

Sometimes there are problems in the operation of devices, this may also be due to the connection interface. When using HDMI, two problems are often observed. no picture and no sound. Incorrect device settings, outdated drivers, or physical breakdowns are considered to be the main causes of malfunctions. In such cases, it is recommended that you resort to one of several methods for solving the problems encountered. about them

Above, we examined in detail the main function of the HDMI interface, got acquainted with the types of cables, figured out how to turn on this connector on a laptop and talked about possible malfunctions. We hope our article was useful and you learned everything you need to know about connecting devices via the HDMI connector.

The main role of HDMI inputs

The emergence of new digital interfaces such as HDMI contributed to the obsolescence of the previously used popular VGA. He not only transmitted the image with a lower quality, but also distorted it, which often caused difficulties in work. The connection in question has a large bandwidth and supports audio transmission.

In addition to HDMI, several other types of digital data transmission interfaces are popular. DVI and DisplayPort. They all have different connectors and some characteristics, which allows you to use the required connection for different situations. Read more about comparing these interfaces in our articles on the links below.

Varieties of HDMI cables

As mentioned earlier, the connection of two devices is made using special cables. They come in a variety of sizes, standards, and only support specific hardware. In addition, they have different connector types and specifications. You can read more about this in our other materials.

How to enable HDMI on a laptop

The HDMI connection transfers multimedia data in good quality and high speed. The transfer of information is carried out through special cables connected to two or more necessary devices. HDMI is the most popular digital interface and has replaced the old analog one. In this article, we will explain in detail everything about this type of connection and analyze how to enable it on a laptop.

Hello, Alexander. It all depends on the laptop model used. Tell me yours, and I will give you the exact answer to the question posed.

Alexander, to determine the characteristics you need an exact model of your laptop. The article on the link below describes how to find it out on the example of laptops from ASUS. You can do exactly the same actions.

Hello laptop model Aspire 3
How to connect PlayStation 4 to it ?

I have a question not only to you personally, but to information sites in general.
I am a user who wants to know the answer to 1 single question, how can I connect the PlayStation 4 via HDMI to my laptop, I go to your website and start reading stories about what HDMI is, why is it needed, and when it was invented, and they throw me 5 more articles to enjoy reading very interesting and copied from Wikipedia, and here I sit, the chair is already on fire and I turn over 2 pages to get to the cherished words (to find out, read our one more article), and I think. wow, how cool, wow, so cool guys came up with, to a simple question of what to do, you answer with such useless articles that it is annoying, you would have 10 times more clients, article views, etc. if you just wrote 3 points in the center in black and bold type (or more, less, does not matter, this is according to the situation), how to do it.

Dear Anonymous, instead of writing canvases with unfounded criticism and accusations of copy-paste, you would normally use the search (both Google or Yandex, and the search specifically on our site, which was right here to the right of the comment input field), correctly formulating your request. Here is an article for you on a topic of interest, do not thank. the link below. I have such a question. I reviewed a bunch of information and videos I can not understand anywhere. I have a laptop. It already has an HDMI input. I connect via HDMI, PlayStation 4. The question is how to enable this HDMI. In the sense of which button to press or what to do? For example, on the TV. I turned it on. I selected the HDMI 3 port in the menu and you play. And how to do this in a laptop? Please tell me

Hello Dmitry. If you connect a laptop to the PlayStation 4, the screen should automatically switch, or a separate function key on the laptop, for example, Fn F4, is responsible for this. In addition, to connect to the PlayStation 4, you must have HDMI-In installed. Read more about this in our other material on this topic.

Hello. I have a Samsung laptop and instead of an HDMI connector there is just some kind of rubber plug. I can’t take it off, how to do it?

Hello Anatoly. If your laptop model has a plug instead of the HDMI connector, then it does not support connection through this interface and you do not need to try to pull it out. The fact is that such plugs were previously installed in younger models of laptops of the same series, which were not designed to work via HDMI. If you want to display the image on the monitor, then you should use a special VGA to HDMI adapter, since there must be VGA on board the laptop you are using. It is desirable that it be an active converter with additional power, it is connected via USB. In addition, pay attention when buying that it was VGA to HDMI, and not vice versa.

Connection interfaces

Remark! You can find out about all the most common interfaces in this article: https://pcpro100.info/popular-interface/

Despite the abundance of interfaces, the most popular and demanded today are: HDMI, VGA, DVI. On modern laptops, usually there is an HDMI port on a mandatory basis, and sometimes a VGA port (example in Fig. 1).

The most popular interface is present on all modern technology (monitors, laptops, TVs, etc.). If you have an HDMI port on the monitor and laptop, then the whole connection process should go without a hitch.

By the way, there are three kinds of HDMI form factors: Standard, Mini and Micro. On laptops, usually, there is always a standard connector, as in fig. 2. However, pay attention to this in the same way (fig. 3).

Many users call this connector differently, who is VGA and who is D-Sub (and, moreover, manufacturers do not sin this either).

Many people say that the VGA interface is living out its term (maybe it is), but despite this, there are still quite a lot of equipment supporting VGA. This means that he will live for another 5-10 years :).

By the way, this interface is found on most monitors (even the newest ones), and on many laptop models. Manufacturers, behind the scenes, still support this popular standard.

On sale today you can find many adapters associated with the VGA port: VGA-DVI, VGA-HDMI, etc.

Quite a popular interface. I should immediately note that it is not found on modern laptops, it is on PC (it is also on most monitors).

DVI has several varieties:

  • DVI-A. used to transmit only an analog signal;
  • DVI-I. for analog and digital signal transmission. The most popular type on monitors;
  • DVI-D. for digital signal transmission.

Important! The dimensions of the connectors, their configuration are compatible with each other, the difference exists only in the contacts involved. By the way, pay attention, next to the port, usually, it is always indicated what type of DVI your equipment has.

How to connect a second monitor to a laptop / computer (via HDMI cable)

I think that many people know and have heard that a second monitor (TV) can be connected to a laptop (computer). And in some cases, it is impossible to fully work without a second monitor: for example, for accountants, financiers, programmers, etc. And in general, it is convenient to turn on, for example, a broadcast of a match (film) on one monitor, and slowly do work on the second :).

In this short article, I will consider a seemingly simple question of connecting a second monitor to a PC or laptop. I will try to touch upon the main questions and problems that arise in this case.

Connecting the monitor via HDMI to a laptop (computer)

In principle, connecting the monitor to a laptop or desktop computer, you will not see much difference. Everywhere the same principle of action, the same actions.

By the way, we will assume that you have already chosen the cable for connection (see the article above).

By the way, many neglect this action, but in vain. Despite this seemingly trivial advice, it can save your equipment from damage. For example, I came across several times with cases when the laptop video card failed due to the fact that they tried to “hot”, without turning off the laptop and TV, to connect them with an HDMI cable. Apparently, in some cases the residual electricity “hit” and disabled the iron. Although, an ordinary monitor and a TV set are still slightly different equipment :). But still…

2) Connect the cable to HDMI ports of laptop, monitor.

Further, everything is simple. you need to connect the ports of the monitor and laptop with a cable. If the cable was chosen correctly (if necessary, use adapters, then problems should not arise.

When everything is connected, turn on the laptop and monitor and wait for Windows to load. Usually, by default, the same picture appears on the connected additional monitor as is displayed on your main screen (see Fig. 10). At least, this is the case even on new Intel HD cards (on Nvidia, AMD. the picture is the same, you almost never have to go into driver settings). The picture on the second monitor can be corrected, more about this in the article below

How to choose a cable and adapters for connection

To begin with, I recommend examining both the laptop and the monitor, to determine what interfaces they have. For example, my laptop only has one HDMI interface (therefore, there is virtually no choice).

The connected monitor had only VGA and DVI interfaces. Interestingly, the monitor does not seem to be “revolutionary”, and there was no HDMI interface on it

In this case, 2 cables were needed (Fig. 7, 8): one HDMI, 2 m long, the other. an adapter from DVI to HDMI (there are, in fact, quite a few such adapters. By the way, there are universal ones, which provide all kinds of interfaces for connecting one to another).

Thus, having a couple of such cables, you can connect your laptop to almost any monitor: old, new, etc.

Setting up a second monitor. Types of projection

The connected second monitor can be “made” to work in different ways. For example, it can display the same as the main one, or it can display something else.

To configure this moment. right-click anywhere on the desktop and select “Screen settings” in the context menu (if you have Windows 7. then “Screen resolution”). Next, in the parameters, select the projection method (more on this below in the article).

An even simpler option would be to use special keys on the keyboard (if you have a laptop, of course). Typically, a screen will be drawn on one of the function keys. For example, on my keyboard, this is the F8 key, it must be pressed simultaneously with the FN key (see Fig. 12).

Next, a window with projection settings should appear. There are only 4 options:

  • Computer screen only. In this case, only one main screen of the laptop (PC) will work, and the second one, which is connected, will be turned off;
  • Repeating (see Figure 10). The image on both monitors will be the same. Convenient, for example, when a large monitor displays the same thing as a small laptop monitor when presenting a presentation (for example);
  • Expand (see fig. 14). Quite a popular projection option. In this case, your workspace will increase, and you will be able to move the mouse from the desktop of one screen to another. It is very convenient, you can open a movie preview on one, and work on the other (as in Fig. 14).
  • Only the second screen. In this case, the main laptop screen will be turned off, and you will work on the connected one (in some form, an analogue of the first option).

On the SIM, the connection process is complete. I will be grateful for the additions. Good luck to all!

How to connect one or more monitors to a Lenovo laptop

A portable laptop provides the user with maximum mobility, while many models are not inferior in performance to a PC. Often there is a need to connect additional devices to a laptop to increase its functionality. Working with presentations, graphs, program codes, comparison tables requires “wide format”, which this gadget does not have. For this, an external screen with a higher resolution quality is used.

Varieties of ports for connecting an external monitor

  • VGA (D-Sub). suitable for simple projectors, office monitors, set-top boxes. To connect to modern models, adapters are used: VGA-HDMI, VGA-DVI, etc. The main advantage is its prevalence. But VGA cannot boast of a large expansion without loss of picture quality. 1920 × 1080 and higher is only capable of it with good equipment capabilities.
  • DVI is a less popular interface. There are several outwardly absolutely identical varieties: DVI-A (for analog signal), DVI-D (for digital), DVI-I (universal). The only difference is in the contacts involved. If you are very sophisticated with adapters, you can achieve image transfer to 4K monitors, but this does not guarantee high quality.
  • HDMI is a modern and user-friendly interface. With its help set-top boxes, monitors, TV are connected. HDMI technology allows video and audio to be transmitted with minimal loss. There are several variations: micro, mini and full size. The advantage of HDMI is its popularity and versatility. Technics with such an interface will be produced for a very long time. The disadvantages include high-quality loss of sound and image when combined with other technologies.
  • Display Port is a high-bandwidth interface. It is a modern alternative to HDMI. It seamlessly supports not only 4K monitors, but also FullHD, a picture in 3D. Display Port mini meets. This interface is slightly less common than HDMI, but is gradually gaining popularity. The undoubted advantage is the high quality of technology.
  • Type C is a universal connector for data transfer, streaming, charging and more. over, if the laptop has only one Type C connector through which the laptop is charged, then when a supporting monitor is connected to this port, the laptop will not only transmit a streaming image, but also charge.

Step-by-step connection instructions

Directly

  • Turn off your computer and external screen.
  • Connect the cable to the corresponding port of the laptop and monitor.
  • Include both.
  • Configure.

Important. Do not neglect turning off the equipment before connecting. Residual current on the cable has more than once caused the failure of the laptop video card.

Using the docking station

A docking station is a special piece of hardware with ports that allows you to connect multiple gadgets at the same time. In the case when it is necessary to work on 2-3 monitors from one laptop, they are used.

Reference. Almost all popular gadget manufacturers have a docking station in their assortment. This is due to the fact that modern laptops are getting thinner and lighter. There is no need to have absolutely all possible interfaces with you at all times, if you can get a separate docking station and use it as needed. It is also a great addition to existing ports.

  • Turn off laptop and external screen.
  • Connect the docking station to the computer via USB.
  • Connect the cable to the appropriate port on the docking station and monitor.
  • Turn on both monitor and laptop.
  • Configure.

The sub screen can be customized in different ways, depending on the goals. On the keyboard of laptops, there are often “hot” keys for working with the monitor. To call the menu of actions with the screen, you need to hold down the Fn key and the corresponding key with the drawn monitor or WinP. Then there are 4 ways to project the image:

  • Computer Screen Only. Only the laptop screen is on.
  • Duplicate. external screen duplicates activities on the laptop.
  • Expand. increase the work space, both screens act as one.
  • Second screen only. the image will only be shown on the external monitor.

Setting up a monitor in Windows 10

On a free space on the Windows 10 desktop, right-click. In the window that opens, select the “Screen settings” item. The display setup menu appears. To switch to an external monitor, you need to click on the square with the number 2. Now it can be adjusted in the same way as the main one: change the resolution, contrast and brightness, scale, and flip the image. The “Orientation” item will help you choose how the desktop is displayed: duplicate, expand on both screens, enable only the first or only the second.

Note. Many television monitors have their own audio system, which is often louder than a laptop. To switch, you need to right-click on the speaker image in the lower right corner of the taskbar. We select the item “Playback devices” and in the list we find the name of the external screen.

With the right cables, connecting your laptop to an external monitor is quick and easy. The correct operation of the equipment depends on the compatibility of the technologies. Universal docking stations keep you mobile.

We connect an external monitor to a laptop via the HDMI port

So, we have a laptop with an HDMI port (Fig. 1).

We need to connect an external monitor to it using a cable and VGA connector.

All the operations described and shown in the pictures below must be done with the laptop turned off and with the external monitor turned off, so as not to damage anything when connecting.

To connect a monitor with VGA input, you need an HDMI-VGA adapter (Fig. 2). It is a pity, of course, that the adapter is not white for a white laptop, but here, as they say, it is better to have a functional and working thing than a beautiful and non-working thing. Therefore, a black adapter is also suitable.

Then we connect the HDMI-VGA adapter to the laptop’s HDMI connector (Fig. 3).

In the next step, you will need a wire coming from an external monitor with a VGA connector at the end, for subsequent connection to an HDMI-VGA adapter (Fig. 4).

So, we connect these 2 connectors together and secure the connection, for which we carefully and effortlessly rotate the screws located on both sides of the VGA connector (Fig. 5).

It seemed that this was all, because the monitor is now connected.

However, let’s not forget that not only the video signal, but also the audio signal is transmitted through the laptop’s HDMI port. Therefore, we will prepare sound speakers for connecting them to the same HDMI-VGA adapter (Fig. 6). It is also advisable to connect the speakers in the off state, although this is not as important for them as for an external monitor.

The audio jack is located on the opposite side from the one where we connected the VGA connector of the external monitor (Fig. 7).

Setting up the screen on two monitors

But I decided not to stop there. Then came the setting. This is where the first problem surfaced. Since the resolutions and diagonals of the screens are different, it will not be possible to fully combine them. So I had to adjust to the constraints.

In the display settings in Windows 10, you can select the main monitor. It is desirable for them to make the monitor on the left (Fig. 9). Where the displays will be indicated, you need to drag the first one with the mouse so that it is to the left of the second. The convenience of such an arrangement will show itself when dragging elements and windows from one screen to another.

The downside of using two monitors was that desktops, like taskbars, are not independent of each other. it’s just a very large desktop that allows you to work on one screen and enable YouTube or something else on the other.

My next steps were to try to set the optimally related screen resolution. In my case, it was not crowned with success, since the resolutions and aspect ratios of the screens were very different. It was decided to leave the screen resolution in its original state.

Then I moved on to the screen display options. There were only four of them:

  • duplication,
  • expansion,
  • display only on the first and
  • display only on the second.

I chose the second option. expanding the screens, thereby combining the two screens into one. But if necessary, at any time you can switch the display mode through the settings panel (the “Display” tab), so you can safely experiment with this function. You can also use the keyboard shortcut by using the keyboard shortcut Windows and P (English).

4 Show only on the second screen

The option (shown by number 4 in Fig. 11) also speaks for itself. The image will be visible only on the second external monitor, and the main monitor will be turned off, as it were.

This option is used if the laptop is used in the system unit mode, when all work is carried out only from a large external monitor, and not on a small laptop screen.

True, in this case, you will also have to connect an external keyboard and an external mouse to the laptop, that is, “in full” turn the laptop, which already has all the built-in devices, into a system unit to which you need to connect external devices.

Also, this option is used by those who, for one reason or another, do not have the main monitor, and there is no opportunity to repair the laptop, or it already makes no sense due to its obsolescence. In this case, the use of an external monitor can prolong the life of such a laptop for a long time.

For a stationary PC, this option allows you to display the image only on the second additional monitor, if it is needed for one reason or another, which cannot be remembered right away. Most often, after all, on a stationary PC, they use the three previous options.

open the Projection panel in Windows 10.

How to connect a second monitor in Windows 10

Sometimes users are faced with the question of how to connect a second Windows 10 monitor for a stationary computer or an external, also a second monitor for a laptop. This is required for different purposes, for example, for showing slides to the “general public” or for extending the computer desktop to be able to work with a large number of simultaneously open windows.

You can find out about connecting an external monitor to a laptop or computer in Windows 8, Win 7 and Win XP HERE,

Let’s consider how to connect a second monitor in Windows 10. But first, an external monitor (for a laptop) or a second monitor (for a computer) must be connected, physically connected to a computer or laptop, and only then set up its operation.

For this, the computer usually has a second port for connecting a monitor. But laptops now usually do not have a VGA port so that you can immediately connect a monitor to it.

READ  How To View Laptop Settings On Windows 10

In modern laptops, the HDMI port is more often used, but not all external monitors can be directly connected to it. Therefore, first let’s see how you can connect an external monitor to a laptop, and only then return to the question of how to set up an external (second monitor).

How to connect a second Windows 10 monitor: personal experience

Next, I publish the opinion of a computer user based on my own practice.

It so happened that I am the owner of a 20-inch monitor and a 40-inch TV. I work behind a small monitor, write articles and surf the Internet. A large monitor was previously used for a console, and after that it became not in demand at all. After that I thought: “Why not get your own multi-monitor system?” This idea turned out to be not only interesting, but also quite simple to implement. It was enough to connect the TV to the video card via HDMI cable, and the image was immediately displayed on both screens.

Desktop background

Next comes the setting of the desktop background. The image set as the desktop wallpaper will be the same on both screens even if the display is expanded, that is, it will not be stretched, but duplicated.

In order for the image to be stretched on both screens, you need to go to the personalization settings and select “Expand” in the choice of image placement. This completes the basic setup.

I have listed the minuses, but the pluses, such as comfort at work, cannot be expressed in words.

If possible, it is still better to use monitors with the same diagonal and the same resolution. Thanks to this, the picture will be displayed better, and the setting will be simpler, since you do not have to “play” with the resolution.

Give it a try and enjoy your work or play.

Configuring Windows playback devices

Usually, when in Windows 10, 8 or Windows 7 you connect a TV or separate monitor via HDMI to a laptop, the sound will automatically start playing on it. However, there are exceptions when the playback device does not automatically change and remains the same. Here it is worth trying to check if it is possible to manually select on what the audio will be played.

  • Right-click the speaker icon in the Windows notification area (bottom right) and select Playback Devices. In Windows 10 1903, 1809 and 1803, to get to the playback devices, select the “Open sound settings” item in the menu, and in the next window. “Sound Control Panel”, or through the Control Panel. Sound.
  • Pay attention to which of the devices is selected as the default device. If it is Speakers or headphones, but the list also contains NVIDIA High Definition Audio, AMD (ATI) High Definition Audio or some devices with HDMI text, right-click on it and select “Set as default” (do this, when the TV is already connected via HDMI).
  • Apply the settings you made.

Most likely, these three steps will be enough to solve the problem. However, it may turn out that in the list of playback devices there is nothing similar to HDMI Audio (even if you right-click on an empty place in the list and enable the display of hidden and disabled devices), then the following solutions may help.

If the sound from the laptop via HDMI still does not play on the TV

If both methods did not help, while the desired item is exactly set in the playback devices, I recommend paying attention to:

  • Once again. check your TV settings.
  • If possible, try a different HDMI cable, or check if the sound will be transmitted over the same cable, but from a different device, not from the current laptop or computer.
  • In the event that an adapter or adapter to HDMI is used to connect via HDMI, the sound may not be able to make it work. If you are using VGA or DVI to HDMI, then definitely not. If DisplayPort is HDMI, then it should work, but on some adapters, in fact, there is no sound.

I hope you managed to solve the problem, if not, please describe in detail what and how happens on a laptop or computer when you try to follow the steps from the manual. I may be able to help you.

Installing Drivers for HDMI Audio

It is possible that you do not have drivers for audio output via HDMI installed, although the video card drivers are installed (this can be if you manually asked which components to install when installing the drivers).

To check if this is the case, go to the Windows Device Manager (in all OS versions, you can press the WinR keys on your keyboard and enter devmgmt.msc, and in Windows 10 also from the right-click menu on the “Start” button) and open the section “Sound, game and video devices”. Further steps:

  • Just in case, enable the display of hidden devices in the device manager (in the “View” menu item).
  • First of all, pay attention to the number of sound devices: if this is the only audio card, then, apparently, drivers for sound via HDMI are really not installed (more on this later). It is also possible that the HDMI device (usually has these letters in the name, or the manufacturer of the video card chip) is present, but disabled. In this case, right-click on it and select “Engage”.

If there is only your sound card in the list, then the way to solve the problem will be as follows:

  • Download drivers for your graphics card from the official AMD, NVIDIA or Intel website, depending on the graphics card itself.
  • Install them, however, if you are using manual configuration of the installation parameters, pay close attention to the fact that the sound driver for HDMI is checked and installed. For example, for NVIDIA video cards it is called “HD Audio Driver”.
  • After the installation is complete, restart your computer.

Note: if for one reason or another the drivers are not installed, it may be due to some kind of malfunction of the current drivers (and the sound problem is explained by the same). In this situation, you can try to completely remove the video card drivers, and then reinstall them.

No HDMI sound when connecting laptop or PC to TV

One of the problems that can be encountered when connecting a laptop to a TV via an HDMI cable is the lack of sound on the TV (i.e. it is played on the laptop or computer speakers, but not on the TV). Usually, this problem is easily solved and further in the instructions. possible reasons that there is no sound via HDMI and how to fix them in Windows 10, 8 (8.1) and Windows 7. See also: How to connect a laptop to a TV, Poor image quality via HDMI.

Note: in some cases (and not very rarely) all the steps described below to solve the problem are not needed, but the whole point is in the sound reduced to zero (in the player in the OS or on the TV itself) or accidentally pressed (perhaps by a child) the Mute button on your TV or receiver, if used. Check these points, especially if everything worked fine yesterday. If, when diagnosing an HDMI audio device, you see a message that this device is already in use by another application, see a separate guide for this issue here: This device is already in use by another application when outputting audio via HDMI.

Additional Information

Software shipped with graphics card drivers may also have custom HDMI audio output settings for supported displays.

And although this rarely helps, take a look at the settings for “NVIDIA Control Panel” (the item is located in the Windows Control Panel), AMD Catalyst or Intel HD Graphics.
