Design and ergonomics
As soon as the first buyers received the iPhone 12, complaints started pouring in. both serious (some smartphones had peeling paint on the edges of the case) and not too serious (the edges, they say, are very sharp, someone even managed to cut himself, and someone peeled the apple) This is very funny. with regard to new iPhones, every little thing is always very closely discussed, which, in the case of any other smartphone, would have remained either unnoticed or marked with a couple of lines in an ordinary review.
The edges are actually not too sharp, the iPhone 12 is comfortable to hold in my hand, and the paint did not peel off in two weeks of testing, but half of this time I used the smartphone in a case. In a couple of lines, I will dwell in a little more detail on the impression of the new iPhone. for my taste, the partial return of the ten-year-old design went to its advantage. For a long time, the iPhone lacked visual identity, and it was on the fourth and fifth versions that it manifested itself most vividly. The merger will take the time in the form of a glass back panel (NFC) with several large lenses and a hefty cutout with a front camera, speaker and Face ID sensor on the front with chopped edges was successful. the device came out recognizable and with a special character. Interestingly, even the notorious “monobrow” adds recognition. almost all competitors have abandoned large cutouts, and Apple is again left almost alone with it. Enviable loyalty to tradition.
iPhone 12, bezel: at the top of the screen. a cutout with a front camera, depth sensor / Face ID and earpiece
Visually, the iPhone 12 appears to be slightly larger than it actually is. over, it is smaller in all dimensions than the iPhone 11, which received a screen of exactly the same diagonal: reduced frames around the screen (which occupies 86% of the front surface against 79% earlier) and a smaller battery help make the gadget thinner (7.4mm vs 8.3mm). It also became lighter. 164 grams.

As a result, we are dealing with a really convenient smartphone that fits perfectly in almost any and is comfortable to hold in the hand. I still can’t fully use a device with a screen diagonal of more than six inches with one hand, but the iPhone 12 is at least approaching the status of a “one-handed” flagship. and there are very few of those like it today. The only thing that comes to mind is Huawei P40, Sony Xperia 5 II (we are also preparing a review of this device) and maybe Samsung Galaxy S20. And let me remind you that Apple has two more models with smaller screens up its sleeve. SE (2020) and iPhone 12 mini. The Cupertino-based company laughed a lot at the “shovels” produced by competitors, and as a result began to make “shovels” cleaner than many, but it did not stop creating really convenient smartphones. And the iPhone 12 is one of them.

over, the new iPhone should be not only comfortable to use, but also less likely to beat. the very design of the flat aluminum rim should help it when it falls, and the ceramic particles included in the glass of the front panel, according to Apple, make it four times more durable. Here we can only believe and hope. we did not conduct a crash test. But the rumor that glass is very easy to scratch is easy to check. you just need to use a smartphone. In my case, nothing happened to him for two weeks, no micro-scratches appeared. The standard of dust and moisture protection is the same. IP68. The smartphone can be dropped in the bathtub or somewhere else for a short time. without much risk of ruining it. But this, remember, is still not a warranty case.
iPhone 12, the top edge is free of functional elements
iPhone 12, bottom: main speaker, Lightning port, microphone
There are five colors: iPhone can be black, white, red, green or blue. The colors are pretty boring, especially the black we got on the test. This is especially true when compared to last year’s iPhone 11 color options.
The functional elements have not changed: there is no mini-jack and will probably never be, the Lightning connector has not gone anywhere, the power key is on the right side, the volume keys and the proprietary sound profile switch are on the left. I note that plastic wiring for antennas appeared on the edges again, due to one of which I had to sacrifice symmetry at the bottom end.
The fingerprint scanner for iPhone in its current form is something like that same mini-jack, something thrown into the past and left to the mercy of Android lovers. But he will probably return in the future. when manufacturers learn to consistently release fingerprint sensors that respond to touch anywhere on the screen. In the meantime, only Face ID, which has not changed at all compared to previous iterations. Works quickly, stably, in any light, but it cannot recognize your face if it is wearing a medical mask. Yes, the task is not trivial, but more primitive face identification systems using a front camera on Android smartphones cope with it (leaving the option to touch the fingerprint scanner), but the iPhone with its reliable but cumbersome scheme does not. Take off the mask every time or enter your password.
If the differences between Android 11 and Android 10 must be looked for with a magnifying glass, then the new version of iOS received very noticeable updates. some of them can be called “catching up” with respect to the Google operating system, but they do not become less important from that. Let’s go over the main.
In iOS 14. Hallelujah!. there are widgets available not only on the leftmost screen, but also on the desktop: three sizes and different purposes. over, one of the widgets is especially interesting. the so-called “Smart-stack” decides what you need now and, depending on the events in the calendar or, say, soon to go to bed, changes the widget to the right moment. Yes, again the iPhone is trying to think for you. but in this case it’s not superfluous.
There are two new methods for sorting apps. On the far right screen, the smartphone independently sorts all applications into folders using its own algorithms (it turns out very well), and if you slide your finger down on the same screen, a list of installed applications will open in alphabetical order.
Finally, a picture-in-picture video function has been added, when you can leave a window, for example, over the messenger. but, unfortunately, it works only for Safari and Apple TV so far. There is a new Translator app with built-in Siri, and the Siri interface itself has been updated. The Health app is gradually expanding. now it has absorbed alarms, as well as the “Sleep” function. It won’t work just like that now. you need to first build this very sleep mode and listen to various tips from the iPhone, which will then remind you that it’s time to sleep on the locked screen.
There are about forty changes, albeit for the most part not too significant (the interface of an application has changed, small functions have been added, animations have changed), and yes, all this has a good effect on the perception of the system. In general, iOS 14 is changing for the better, not stagnating. and I note that the iPhone 12 feels much smoother than the iPhone 11, which also, frankly, did not lack in speed. But there is no need to talk about extreme stability. in two weeks Internet access fell off several times (I had to restart the reception of mobile data), once the camera hung tightly (I had to reboot the phone). I cannot say that the current iPhone is superior in stability to the current flagships on Android, although, in theory, a stronger soldering of hardware and software should give this.
Review of the smartphone Apple iPhone 12: not all inclusive
A revolution was expected in the Apple iPhone 12 series. the rejection of Lightning in favor of USB Type-C (or, even more so, a complete rejection of wired charging), some new solution to replace the “monobrow”, some unexpected moves in terms of the camera As a result there were no revolutions. except for the unboxed headphones and charger. This is an ordinary update for Apple smartphones, but still with some interesting solutions.
First of all, a new design: Apple has returned to the very successful iPhone 4/5 style with chopped edges, mixing them with the traditional monobrow neckline and rear-facing cameras. LCD screens are finally a thing of the past. all iPhone 12s (including mini) received OLED panels. It also uses the new Apple Bionic A14 hardware platform, made using a 5-nm process technology. And finally, 5G. almost half of the presentation was devoted to the new generation networks, but for Russia this still means little: most likely, there will be no bands supported by the new iPhones. There are also a number of smaller improvements related to, among other things, the camera.
But in this review I will not dwell on the operation of the iPhone 12 camera. there are not many differences from the iPhone 11 in this particular model. We will talk about the camera in detail. and compare it with the cameras of the flagship smartphones of competitors. in the review of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which received both a LiDAR sensor and an updated telephoto module. Here I will focus on the user experience associated with the new iPhone, iOS 14 and the updated hardware platform.
Display and sound
iPhone 12 received an OLED panel of the same diagonal as the iPhone 11. 6.1 inches, but with a higher resolution: 2532 × 1170 pixels. This achieves a pixel density of 460 dpi (Retina XDR). Let me remind you that quite recently, the first Retina with its 300 dpi was supposed to be the most comfortable for the eye. Well, along with technology, apparently, the human organ of vision is progressing. Be that as it may, the increase in sharpness is radical, the picture is really impressive. But the increased refresh rate was “not delivered”. the screen works at a fixed 60 hertz. The operating system is still perceived very “smoothly”: as I wrote above, the gadget is extremely fast, but the smooth effect of swiping that smartphones with 90/120 Hz screens give is still a little lacking.
Otherwise, the screen is more than good: free viewing angles, conventionally infinite contrast, PWM is not very serious, HDR is supported. Oleophobic coating is effective as well as anti-reflective layer.
The measured maximum brightness level (under artificial light) is 513 cd / m2. For an OLED screen, the indicator is very high. Using your smartphone in the bright sun is comfortable.
The display settings are typical for iPhone. you cannot manually adjust the color rendition, you can only turn on / off the mode of automatic adjustment of colors for ambient lighting True Tone, choose a light or dark skin theme, activate night mode and play with fonts. I measured the color rendition of the display without True Tone activated. simply because even so, it demonstrates color rendition close to the reference.

Phone 12, color temperature. Blue Line. iPhone 12 Readings, Dotted Line. Reference Temperature
iPhone 12 color gamut. Gray triangle is sRGB coverage, white triangle is iPhone 12 coverage
Apple again did not pursue extended color reproduction, focusing on full support for the still more common sRGB standard. the color gamut matches it almost exactly. Average gamma is ideal. 2.20, curves are stable. the line color temperature is absolutely even, the colors are slightly colder than the standard. the median is at 6 750 K. The average deviation of DeltaE on the Color Checker scale, which includes both a wide range of colors and shades of gray, is 1.90, which is well within the boundaries norms (3.00). Setting, as well as the quality of the panel, there can be no questions about the display of the iPhone 12.
The iPhone 12 already makes it clear that wired headphones, according to Apple, are the last century. Not only is there no mini-jack and there is no adapter from Lightning to 3.5 mm, there are no headphones themselves in the kit. All for the sake of reducing our carbon footprint (and boosting the already massive sales of Airpods). In terms of sound quality via Bluetooth, the new iPhone will not please even “wireless” audiophiles. there is no support for aptX and LDAC (and most likely never will), but the proprietary AAC profile allows you to count on decent sound quality. The speakers are stereophonic: along with the one located on the lower edge, the spoken one works in the front plane. They sound good, and talking with the iPhone 12 is also quite comfortable.
Finding Apple ID on a locked iPhone
When you turn on your iPhone for the first time and use it the next time, you use your Apple ID account. To enter it, you need to know your login and password. You can find out your ID not only with the help of the device itself, especially if there is no access to it.
The fastest and easiest way that does not require knowledge of any additional account information. The only condition will be that you have previously logged into your account in the program, and the login and password are still stored in memory. You need a USB cable to connect your device and sync with iTunes. This method may not work, then when entering iTunes, the user will have a form for entering a username and password. However, it can also reflect the Apple ID.
Open iTunes on your computer. On the top bar, click “Account”. In the menu that opens, the second line is the user’s Apple ID.
If there is no such line, do the following: go to “Account”. “View”.
Please note that earlier in iTunes there was a special section “My programs”, where in the information of downloaded applications it was possible to find out the user ID. This feature is not available in the new version of iTunes.

If the ID has been lost or forgotten, it can be restored through a special site. To do this, you need to know additional information about the account: first name, last name, e-mail address to which the account was registered.
Go to Support
It so happens that the user does not use the developer’s services and does not have any saved data in the program, and he does not remember personal information. In this case, only contacting Apple technical support will help. An application for a call from a specialist can be submitted both on the website and by calling the hot line. In addition, online chat is available directly on the site. You can choose the appropriate method of contact by the link below.
In this article, we took a look at how to find out the Apple ID if the iPhone is locked and there is no access to its settings. In extreme cases, the user will have to contact Support Apple.
