Enabling the touchpad
If not only scrolling, but also other functions stopped working on the touchpad, then you should check if it is enabled in the system. There are several ways to do this.
Another way to turn on the device is to use the “Mouse” section in the “Control Panel”.
- Open the “Control Panel”.
- Go to the section “Hardware and Sound”.
- In the “Devices and Printers” menu, select the “Mouse” item.
The touchpad is the same mouse from the point of view of the system
Turn on the touchpad and refuse to turn it off automatically
Disabling the touchpad automatically when a mouse is connected is an extremely controversial option. On the one hand, it allows NOT to duplicate work if you prefer to use an external controller. On the other hand, this function is often a prerequisite for errors. Therefore, it is better to deactivate it.
The most hardcore way to enable / disable the touchpad is to select the state via BIOS. He cuts down the device at the hardware level, after which you can press the hot keys as much as you like or enter the “Control Panel”. nothing will change. The only way to get the touchpad working again is to go back to BIOS and enable it there.
- Reboot the laptop and go into the BIOS.
- Go to the Advanced tab. It may be called differently, but this is the most common name.
- Find the item Internal Pointing Device.
- Highlighting it, press Enter and select the Enabled value. that is, enabled.
- We reboot the laptop while saving the configuration. Usually you need to press the F10 key and confirm the selection.
On some laptops, you can control the state of the touchpad through the BIOS
The procedure differs depending on the laptop model and BIOS version. So this is NOT a universal instruction, but only a call to look deeper for the touchpad settings.
This is the fastest way to enable the touchpad. For example, on my ASUS laptop, you can enable or disable the touchpad by pressing FnF9. Some ASUS models use a combination of FnF7, while Lenovo, Dell and Toshiba usually use FnF5. Not to guess, look at the pictograms on the keys. You need a button with a strikethrough touchpad.
Look for such a button on the keyboard. it controls the state of the touchpad
Problems with gestures and touchpad, in general, can arise due to incorrect operation of drivers. Therefore, you need to check them and update if necessary.
- Right-click on the “Start” menu and select “Device Manager” from the context menu.
- Expanding the section “Mouse and other pointing devices”.
- Find the touchpad. It is usually called ELAN Input Device or simply TouchPad.
- Right-click on it and select “Update driver”.
Any device will malfunction without updated drivers
First, select the automatic driver search. If this does not help, then we go to the website of the laptop manufacturer, download the latest version of the drivers for the touchpad on our laptop model, repeat the procedure for starting the update, only this time we select the manual search.
We need to select the file with the drivers and install them
When choosing drivers, the main thing is to observe the bit depth and versioning. If you have Windows 10 x64, then the touchpad driver must be for Windows 10 x64.
Fixing scrolling on touchpad in Windows 10
The touchpad has one very handy feature. you can use it to scroll through pages. For this, gestures are used. The standard solution for scrolling is to move up or down with two fingers at the same time. But sometimes the gesture does NOT work. This is not the biggest problem, but I prefer to use gestures that I have long been accustomed to, so I always correct such mistakes.
Customization in branded junk
Some laptop manufacturers install proprietary utilities to manage the touchpad. These usually contain standard device settings, including options for using gestures. A link to such a program can be found in the “Control Panel”.
- Open the “Control Panel”.
- We find the utility with the name of the touchpad.
Some ASUS notebooks have a proprietary touchpad control application
If you do not enable gestures for scrolling, then It will not work on the touchpad. The name and interface of the program may vary depending on the brand and brand of the laptop. Sometimes there is no proprietary utility at all, and then you have to look for other ways.
Cleaning the keyboard
If the touchpad is fully functional in software, but still DOESN’T perform the function, then it may make sense to take it to a service center or try to clean the laptop yourself. Dirt, grease, liquid. all this disables the device.
The laptop keyboard can be pulled out without disassembling the case. on some models it is enough to pry its edge with a flat screwdriver. You can also clean the touchpad through the hole. On my laptop, this will NOT work. you need to unscrew a bunch of bolts and take care of the fasteners.
You can clean the laptop yourself. it’s scary only the first time
Before disassembling your laptop, find a detailed manual for your model. Usually this is not a problem: texts with screenshots and entire video instructions are easily Google. There is nothing difficult to disassemble. The main thing is to be careful not to damage the components, because they are much more fragile in a laptop than in a PC.
Setting up the touchpad on a laptop with Windows 10
Most laptops have a touchpad, which after installing a new operating system Windows 10 requires configuration. Therefore, if your touchpad does not work properly, is not sensitive enough or reacts poorly to gestures, you should use this instruction.
Enabling and disabling the touchpad is done through the keyboard. For this use the keys of the row “F.”. Therefore, you need to pay attention to the buttons “F1”, “F2”, “F3”, etc. One of the keys will be marked with a special symbol and will be responsible for enabling and disabling the touchpad.
Some laptop models have more than one button that is responsible for the touchpad. The key combinations in this case are: “FnF7”, “FnF9”, “FnF5”, etc.
You can also turn the touchpad on and off using a special sensor, which is located on the touchpad itself. Often, you need to double-click on this “point” for the touchpad to stop functioning.
In the event that enabling and disabling the touchpad via key combinations does not work, then this function is disabled in the system settings. To fix this, you should do the following:
- We select “Control Panel”. Open the section “Mouse”.
- Go to the tab of the touchpad “Device Settings” or “Hardware”. If the touchpad is turned off, you need to select it and name it by the “Enable” button.
In case the touchpad still does not work, it is worth checking the settings in the BIOSe, updating or rolling back the driver (possibly outdated or damaged by viruses). If these manipulations did not bring results, it is worth checking if the physical part of the touchpad is damaged. For this, the laptop should be entrusted to a specialist.
In order to adjust the sensitivity of the touchpad, open the mouse properties and go to the “Click Pad” tab. Next, click on the “Options” button.
The touchpad sensitivity control panel will open. You can use the slider to adjust the sensitivity or click “Restore all settings to default”.
After the specified parameters, it is worth saving the changes and checking the touchpad settings.
The touchpad mainly acts as a mouse. If you are NOT using a USB device, you can customize your touchpad as follows:
- Page scrolling. With two fingers simultaneously, you need to make gestures up and down (depending on the direction of scrolling).
- Move pages to the right and to the left. swipe in the desired direction with two fingers.
- Calling the context menu (analogous to the right mouse button). Need to press with two fingers at the same time.
- Calling a menu with all running programs (analogous to AltTab). swipe up with three fingers.
- Closing running programs. The same gesture as above. Just swipe down with three fingers.
- Minimize all windows. Swipe down with three fingers when windows are maximized.
- Calling the system search bar or voice assistant. Must be called three fingers at the same time.
- To zoom in, you should stretch your fingers from the center of the touchpad to the corners.
If all these gestures do not work, it is worth checking the touchpad for serviceability.
Screen brightness does not change on a Windows 10 laptop
Some users complain that after a clean installation, updating to Windows 10 from a previous version of the OS, or installing a new build of Windows 10 on laptops, the screen brightness control stops working. When you try to increase or decrease the brightness of the dedicated keys or a combination of FnF11 / F12 / other (depending on the laptop model), nothing happens. All other combinations and function keys work correctly.
In most cases, the problem with adjusting brightness in Windows 10 is related to the monitor and video card drivers (most often the problem occurs on devices with Intel Graphics and AMD Radeon graphics cards). However, there are other reasons as well. Let’s take a look at a few easy ways to fix the problem with the inability to change the brightness on a laptop with Windows 10.
- Monitor brightness is NOT adjusted after updating to Windows October 1803
- Disabled Generic Pnp Monitor
- Update your video adapter driver
- Screen Backlight and KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 Registry Option
- Brightness control does not work after installing TeamViewer
- Fn brightness keys do not work on laptop
- Brightness is NOT adjustable on a laptop with an Intel graphics card
- Switch to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver
Monitor brightness is NOT adjusted after updating to Windows October 1803
Some users are faced with the fact that after installing the latest Windows Update October 1803 (April Update) on many laptop models, the monitor brightness has ceased to be adjusted. The brightness is turned on at full at any position of the brightness slider in the settings. The brightness cannot be changed using the keyboard function keys.
In almost 100% of cases, a rollback to Windows 10 version 1709 helps to solve the problem with the display brightness. But, of course, this does not come out. There are simpler solutions for Windows October 1803.
First of all, check if you have enabled the “Very bright” tile in the notification bar, perhaps you cannot reduce the brightness because of it.
If the dimming issue occurred immediately after upgrading to Windows Media 10 1803, install the latest cumulative update KB4284835 (OS Build 17134.112) dated June 12, 2018. According to information from Microsoft, it fixes an issue with brightness control on laptops running Windows October 1803:
Check the display brightness settings in the Control Panel: Control Panel. Power Options. In the properties of the selected power plan, click on Change advanced power settings. Change advanced power settings. Expand Display Section.
In the Enable adaptive brightness item, you need to disable adaptive brightness for mains and battery mode.
Also try changing the settings in the points:
- Display brightness
Brightness is NOT adjustable on a laptop with an Intel graphics card
If your Windows 10 laptop has Intel HD Graphics, you can try to fix the display brightness issue like this:
- Open the registry editor regedit.Exe.
- Navigate to the following registry key: HKLM \ SYSTEM \ ControlSet001 \ Control \ Class \ 4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318 \ 0000.
- Change FeatureTestControl parameter value from f000 to f008.
- Reboot your laptop.
Or use the following reg file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ ControlSet001 \ Control \ Class \ 4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318 \ 0000]
“FeatureTestControl” = dword: 0000ffff
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ ControlSet001 \ Control \ Class \ 4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318 \ 0001]
“FeatureTestControl” = dword: 0000ffff
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ ControlSet001 \ Control \ Class \ 4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318 \ 0002]
“FeatureTestControl” = dword: 0000ffff
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ ControlSet001 \ Services \ intelkmd]
“FeatureTestControl” = dword: 0000ffff
Screen Backlight and KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 Registry Option
The following technique involves editing the registry:
- Open Registry Editor (regedit.Exe).
- Go to branch
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ ControlSet001 \ Control \ Class \ 4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318 \ 0000.
- Find DWORD parameter KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 change its value from 1 to 0.
- T.K. There can be several KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface2 parameters in the registry, you need to open the search window (F3) and find in the registry all other parameters named KMD_EnableBrightnessInterface. For all found keys, you need to change the value from 1 to 0.
- Reboot your computer.
Brightness control does not work after installing TeamViewer
Some users have encountered the brightness control in Windows 10 not working after installing the TeamViewer remote control software. The fact is that during installation TeamViewer adds its own display driver Pnp-Montor Standard to the system, which is used to compress graphics and optimize traffic.
Try replacing the driver for this device with “Generic PnP Monitor” (RMB. Update drivers. Select from the list of already installed drivers).
Disabled Generic Pnp Monitor
If your system does not have the ability to adjust the brightness in the notification panel and in the display settings, please make sure that the Generic Pnp Monitor is NOT disabled in your hardware. This is the most common problem on Lenovo and HP Pavilion laptops.
Open Device Manager (devmgmt.Msc) and under Monitors, check that the Generic Pnp Monitor is enabled. If it is not, Right click on it and enable it (Enable).
Restart your computer and check the brightness adjustment.
Update your video adapter driver
The brightness issue may be related to the current video driver. First of all, check that your video card is enabled in the device manager (by analogy with the method above).
If the previous method did not help, try to automatically update your video adapter driver (unless, of course, you have disabled automatic driver updates).
In the device manager (the same devmgmt.Msc console) Expand the Display adapters section, find your video card, Right-click on it and select Update Driver Software. Then we select the option Search automatically for updated driver software and wait until Windows 10 finds and installs the latest driver (of course, there must be an Internet connection).
If automatic driver updates did not fix the problem with the brightness control not working in Windows 10, try uninstalling the current driver and installing the latest driver from the manufacturer’s website.
If it doesn’t help, go to the next method
Fn brightness keys do not work on laptop
If you find that the brightness control in Windows 10 settings works fine, but the function keys (Fn) for brightness control on the laptop keyboard do not work, most likely you need to install additional software from the laptop manufacturer.
Each manufacturer names the utilities differently. Please note that you only need to download laptop utilities from the official website of the manufacturer, or from the installation CD / DVD that was supplied with the device. Below are the names of the utilities for popular laptop models:
- ASUS. ATK Hotkey Utility
- Sony Vaio. Sony Notebook Utilities
- Dell. QuickSet
- HP. HP Software Framework and / or HP Hotkey Support
- Lenovo. Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10 or AIO Hotkey Utility Driver
Switch to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver
The last thing you can try if all the listed methods did not help is to use the standard Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver for the video card.
- To do this, in the Device Manager hardware console, select the video card, Right-click on it and select Update Driver Software from the menu
- Select Browse my computer for driver software-Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer
- Select Microsoft Basic Display Adapter from the list of drivers and click Next
- The system should replace the current driver
- Reboot and test the laptop screen brightness adjustment keys
Touchpad not working? Solving the problem in the BIOS.
We do this: go into the BIOS, on this laptop this can be done by pressing the F2 key immediately after starting the laptop. If you have another laptop, then perhaps there are other keys or a combination, then we read this article, everything is written there.
Then go to the tab “Advanced” and use the up / down arrows to move the cursor to the parameter “Internal Pointing Device”. Initially, this parameter was set to “Disabled” and that’s why the touchpad didn’t work. Therefore, we change the value of the parameter “Internal Pointing Device” on “Enabled” (like mine in the screenshot). Just press Enter and select “Enabled”.
Then, saving the changes by pressing the F10 key, confirm the save and exit the BIOS by clicking on “Esc”.
After rebooting, the touchpad worked, but I thought it was a lost business. Only my friend can’t understand why Asus makes laptops with such incorrect BIOS settings? This is a very gross mistake, although I met this for the first time, but still I remember it, and some bad aftertaste remained in it.
Turn on touchpad programmatically in Windows
Unfortunately, the above keyboard shortcuts are not suitable for all laptop models. As mentioned above, touchpads on HP notebooks can be activated by a special button / indentation located in the corner or on top of the touchpad. And for example, with Sony VAIO laptops, things can be even more complicated. they have an F key that is responsible for turning on the touchpad. What to do in such a situation? Everything is quite simple, you need to enable the touchpad in Windows 7 or Windows 8. It is done like this:
We go to the “Control Panel” find the menu item “Hardware and Sound” then you need to get into “Devices and Printers”
Go to “Devices and Printers” you need to select the laptop icon, which is named after your computer. After clicking on the laptop icon, the “Control Center” will appear in which you need to select the “Keyboard and Mouse” menu item. Next, we find the sub-item “Built-in pointing device” and tick the “Enable” box. For anyone having difficulty, watch this
If neither the hotkeys nor the software activation of the touchpad helped, then perhaps the problem lies deeper. This is what our next chapter is about.
If the touchpad doesn’t work
So, the first thing to do if the touchpad doesn’t work is to find the hotkey that turns it on. Since all laptop manufacturers are different, the combination of hot keys is also different. For example, on Hewlett Packard (HP) laptops, the hotkey is just one special key that you can use to enable the touchpad. Or a dedicated button / dimple (depending on the HP laptop model), which is located in the corner / top of the touchpad.
Most other laptop manufacturers use a bunch of Fn keys and some of the keys from F1 to F9 to turn on the touchpad. Usually, the desired key has a schematic icon, as shown in the photo above. Here are the popular keyboard shortcuts for the most common manufacturers:
- For Acer laptops. FnF7.
- For ASUS Laptops. FnF9.
- On Lenovo laptop. FnF8.
- Dell Laptop. FnF5.
- For Toshiba. FnF9 keys.
- For Sony Vayo. FnF1.
- For Samsung Laptops. Fn F5 or F6.
- For ISI. Fn F3 keys.
- For Packard Bell. FnF6 keys.
Third. check the BIOS settings.
If after installing the driver the touchpad still does not work, then it is worth checking the BIOS settings. It is possible that the touchpad is simply disabled there.
How to enter BIOS read in this article.
After entering the BIOS settings, go to the “Advanced” tab and check that opposite the “Internal Pointing Device” option is “Enabled” or “Auto”.
Enabling the touchpad in the laptop BIOS and checking its driver
If your touchpad stops working and there is no hearing or ghost in the system, then you need to check the driver and BIOS of the laptop. On many laptop models, the touchpad is enabled in the computer BIOS. For beginners who do not know what BIOS is and how to enter this BIOS, we advise you to read the instructions at the link. Got into the BIOS, you need to find the menu item, which is responsible for turning on the touchpad. Usually this item is called “Internal Pointing Device”, which from translation into Russian, just the touch panel means.
Accordingly, you need to set this parameter to “Enabled”. Besides the disabled touchpad in BIOS, you need to check if the touchpad driver is installed in the operating system. This is especially true for those who do not have scrolling on the touchpad. Most modern laptops have a Synaptics touchpad driver on board. If you are NOT sure that everything is in order with the driver (for example, before that you reinstalled the OS), then you need to go to the Windows device manager ( “Control Panel” System “) and find the touchpad driver:
True, this method of updating the driver does not always work and the system cannot find the source. Therefore, if the scrolling on the touchpad does not work, there is an alternative option. go to the laptop manufacturer’s website, find the driver download section and download the driver for your laptop model and update them manually. Also, if vertical scrolling is not working, you should check the following parameter in the mouse settings (if something has changed there):
Control Panel Mouse Device Settings again Settings Virtual Scrolling Function
Sometimes, if the touchpad stops working unexpectedly, System Restore helps:
“Start” “Standard” “System” “System Restore”
This concludes our instruction, we hope your touchpad is now working and the laptop functions as before. If, after reading the article, the touchpad still does not work, ask questions in the comments, indicating the laptop model and the actions that you took to work the touchpad.
Disable touchpad in asus laptop via device manager
I will not specifically describe this option, since in different models, this operation is also performed in different ways.
Its essence is that you need to enter the windows 10 device manager and disable the touchpad driver.
It is located under “keyboard” or “mice and other pointing devices” (depends on the asus model)
Then turn on the touchpad if necessary, you can also use this driver.
How to disable touchpad in ASUS laptop on Windows 10
It doesn’t matter if you bought an asus laptop with windows 10 or just updated to the top ten, sometimes the touchpad can get in the way and you need to turn it off.
From my experience, I can say that usually beginners want to disable the touchpad. When I first sat down at my asus laptop, I tried to turn off the touchpad after several days of use.
I could hardly write anything, he always spoiled the whole picture. I remember I turned it off, but then, I don’t even remember how I turned it on and everything went smoothly.
True, then there was no trace of Windows 10, only XP, but apparently over time the hands get used to not touching the Ego.
It should be noted right away that the same option will NOT work on all models, so you will have to experiment.
Below are all the known manipulations to disable the touchpad, in laptops. they are suitable Not only for asus.
Touchpad (touchpad) not working on Asus laptop when installing Windows
Hello. Today I want to write about the problem I met in person. The problem is that the touchpad (touchpad) did not work on the Asus laptop even during the installation of Windows 7, in the installed operating system and even in Linux.
I solved the problem, but not immediately but decided. It was all about the BIOS settings. Now I will write in detail about everything, it will be interesting :). So they brought me a laptop, still new, one might say sealed. Well, I would have installed Windows and all that. Well, I said that I would do it, they left me the laptop, I was busy and took it up only in the evening.
As usual, I took out a laptop, it was an Asus X54C, connected the power supply, and since it immediately had DOS on it, I put the installation disk into the drive and rebooted the computer. Immediately booting from DVD started and everything seems to be fine.
But when the Windows 7 installation process had already begun, I realized that there was no cursor on the screen at all, to be honest, I had never seen anything like this. Okay, I thought, I’ll start the installation with the keys, and then you look and the cursor will appear. So I did everything with the keys, broke a new hard drive, how to do it is written here, and started the installation. The operating system installed, but after restarting the laptop, nothing good came out. The cursor appeared, but the touchpad did not work, the cursor stood in the center of the screen and did NOT react in any way to my actions. What the. I thought I rebooted the laptop again.
But nothing helped, as you know on the laptop there is a key that disables the touchpad, but it did not help. And if you think logically, then the OS has nothing to do with it, because even during the installation process there were problems with the touchpad.
I also tried to boot from the Linux boot disk, but the touchpad did not work there either, and the cursor stood rooted to the spot. I even started to think that this is a technical problem with the touchpad, maybe it didn’t work, maybe a marriage. But for now I decided NOT to give up.
And then I started researching the BIOS and I will say in advance I was not mistaken. First, I dropped the BIOS settings to optimal, but it did not help.
Then as always in situations like this I started Google and found something interesting. And this is something that helped me solve a seemingly hopeless problem.
Disable touchpad in asus laptop with function keys
The very first described option is the simplest, only there are exceptions when the manufacturer did NOT use this function (rare).
This method should work on almost all laptops, only it definitely needs a driver, and if someone installed windows 10 for you (you did NOT buy a laptop with preinstalled Windows), then 99% of it is available.
What’s the point? You need to hold down the FN key and call it usually F7 or F9. If such a function is provided on your device, then the touchpad icon should be drawn on the second key.
If the option did NOT work, the problem can be solved. Enough “sun” at the office. Asus website and driver download.
Then of course install. This allows you to turn off the touchpad when you need it. In a word, who wants to figure it out
Disable touchpad using the Settings app.
Open “Options” by pressing the keyboard shortcut Win I.
Go to “Devices” → “Touchpad” and move the switch slider to the “Off” position
To enable the touchpad, move the slider to the “On” position.
Reinstall the touchpad driver.
Touchpad gestures may NOT work on your PC if the touchpad driver is damaged or one of its files is missing. Reinstalling the touchpad driver. The best way to solve the problem. To reinstall the touchpad driver:
Open Device Manager. Expand “Mice and Other Pointing Devices” to see a recording of your touchpad.
Right click on the touchpad tab and then click the “Remove device” button.
At the next prompt, select “Remove driver” for this device, and then click the “Remove” button to remove the driver.
Reboot your computer.
Download the latest driver for your touchpad from the PC manufacturer’s website and then install it.
Restart your computer again.
Check if the touchpad driver is installed.
Gestures do not work unless the correct touchpad driver is installed on the PC. If you have NOT installed the touchpad driver yet, download it from your device manufacturer’s website and install it now.
Check if other gestures work.
Some gestures require an accurate touchpad. So, if your laptop is not equipped with a precision touchpad, some gestures may NOT work. If one or two gestures do not work, it is most likely because your laptop has a high-precision touchpad.
You can go to “Parameters” → “Devices” → “Touchpad” to check if your laptop has a high-precision touchpad.
Disable touchpad using device manager.
Open Device Manager. To do this, press the Win R keys at the same time. To open the Run Dialog Box, enter Devmgmt.Msc and press the Enter key.
After the device manager appears on your screen, expand “Mice and other pointing devices” to see a record of the installed touchpad.
Right click on the entry corresponding to your touchpad, and select the “Disable device” option. Click the “Yes” button when you see “Disabling a device means it will stop working until it is terminated. Are you sure you want to turn it off? »To disable the touchpad.
To re-enable the touchpad, you need to right-click on the disabled device and then click the “Enable device” button.
Check if gestures are NOT disabled.
Windows 10 provides settings for enabling or disabling INDIVIDUAL gestures. We suggest that you check if you accidentally disabled one or more gestures.
Go to the app “Settings” → “Devices” → “Touchpad” in the section “Related options” click on the link “Advanced gesture settings”.
On the gesture behavior settings page, expand the drop-down list of the gesture you need and set a value other than “Nothing”.
Touchpad gestures not working in Windows 10.
Published: 28 September 2018 Updated: 17 January 2019
Windows 10 offers over ten touchpad gestures. In addition to the standard tap, tap, page scrolling and zoom gestures, there are other gestures such as three fingers to show the desktop and open the action center.
If you like using standard gestures, you’ll love the new three-finger gestures, for example:
- Three fingers upward slide. switch between desktops
- Three fingers left, right. To switch between applications
- Three fingers down. Show Desktop
- Four fingers pressing. Open Action & Notification Center
- Press three fingers on the touchpad. Cortan
While these gestures are convenient for all users to navigate quickly, users complain that one or more of the touchpad gestures do not work.
If on your Windows 10 laptop one or more of the touchpad gestures are not working, you can use the following solutions to get the touchpad gestures back to working condition on your laptop.
Turn touchpad on and off.
Disabling and then enabling the touchpad may make the gesture you want work again. You can turn it off using Device Manager or using the Windows 10 Settings app.
Note: If you do not have a mouse on hand, please DO NOT attempt to disable the touchpad in one of THESE ways, as once the touchpad is disabled you will need a mouse to control your PC. Also, you need to connect a mouse (not required if you know how to go to Device Manager and enable the touchpad using the keyboard) to enable the previously disabled touchpad.
Restore old version of touchpad driver.
If the touchpad stops working after updating the driver to the latest version, you can try restoring the previous version of the driver. It’s simple. Here’s how to do it.
Right-click on the Start Menu button and select Device Manager.
Expand Mice and Pointing Devices to see the touchpad entry. If you DO NOT see this entry, it is likely because the touchpad hardware is not working or the driver is not installed.
Right click on the touchpad entry and select Properties.
Go to the Driver tab. Click the rollback button to automatically restore the previous driver version.
While these gestures help you quickly switch between apps and make your work faster, not all users use the gestures offered in Windows 10.
Since all these actions can be performed using keyboard shortcuts and many users prefer to use them instead of gestures.
