Weather in Barovia (1)

You notice that it seems to be a very, very overcast day. Though the sun is shining, lighting the sky behind them, the clouds are thick and dark overhead. The light does not help the drab village look any better.

Look to the Sky[]

For centuries upon centuries, the sky over Barovia has been nothing but a blanket of dark clouds. The sun never fully shines in the lands of Barovia, and even during the day the sun is obscured by clouds and fog, casting everything in a muted, grey light. The sun still seems to travel through the sky, giving Baroviaboth a sunrise and sunset, and though it is obscured, it still provides enough light to be able to see with by day.

By contrast, the nights are fully dark, with the only potential source of natural light being lightning during storms, or fires started by that lightning. Judging from the cloud cover at dusk and stormclouds at night, it can be assumed that the clouds are a permanent fixture of Barovia.

Weather Patterns[]

Barovia is a cold and dreary land, and it is debatable if it truly has seasons. The cold is frequently made worse by the wind and rain that sweeps through the valley, and it is also notably worse in the mountainand forest regions. The higher reaches of the mountains are extremely deadly even by Barovian standards, with temperatures low enough to kill all but the most well-prepared explorer in a matter of hours.

Though always cold, there is usually a brief window of one to two weeks out of the year which might be considered spring or even summer, and during this time Barovians are not bundled in quite as many layers or rained on as frequently, however the temperature never raises enough to be considered warm.

The primary protection against the cold and the rain, as with allhazards of Barovia, is simply to stay indoors and hide from it.
