The BEST Colors To Go With Green — Helen K Lloyd (2024)

There are so many colors to go with green due to there being so many versatile green hues that work brilliantly in any room of the house. Whether you prefer emerald green or lime green, this post will help you to know what colors go good with green.

Greens that have a cool undertone, such as forest, emerald, bottle green and seafoam, work best with white, black, grey, blue, purple and pink. Whereas greens with a warm undertone, such as olive, khaki, chartreuse, lime and pistachio, work best with cream, yellow, orange, red and brown.

Often associated with renewal, growth and life, green is a refreshing and restful color to incorporate into your interior design approach. With a large number of green shades to choose from, there is a tone of green that will complement any primary or secondary color scheme in your bedroom, kitchen, living room, or hallway.

Colours That Go With Green

Fear not if you too want to know colours that go with emerald green or what colour goes with bottle green as here are a few of my favourite combination of colors to go with green, to help you know what colors go good with green and inspire you when decorating and enhancing your home.

Green and white

The color white is complimentary to any color, but there’s something instantly uplifting about pairing white with green in any room of the house. The important thing to consider when choosing your white paint color, as is the case with any color selection, is to be aware of the undertones in the color as some will compliment different shades of green better than others.

Always test samples on different walls in your room to see how the color changes in different lights, but as general guidance; a green shade with a yellow undertone, such as olive green or lime, work well with whites that lean slightly warmer or that have a bright neutral undertone. Greens that have a blue undertone, such as pistachio or sage green, can also work well with neutral whites as well as whites that lean towards having a cooler – usually a slightly grey – undertone.

Red and its hues, including the color pink, sit directly opposite the color green on the color wheel and therefore will provide one of the strongest contrasting pairings. The key thing to consider when using this color combination is the ratio of colors in the room, to help either create a smooth transition between the colors or have one as a base to highlight the other color.

For example, the backdrop of this darker and muted green wall color helps to highlight rather than compete with the vibrant red in the artwork, which is ideal as the focus of interest should be the painting.

In this example, the pastel green on the doors helps to add vibrancy without dominating the room, and complements the muted orange tone that adds warmth and tranquillity to the large, minimal space.

The combination can also be created through opting for earth-colored greens, such as khaki, and introducing orange into the space through orange-toned wood accents and furniture. As nature intended, green accompanies orange and brown in various scenarios and therefore this nature-inspired combination will work harmoniously inside the home too.

If you’re looking to create an extremely cosy and opulent atmosphere, layering rich shades of greens will help you to achieve this. This bedroom showcases other green colours that go with bottle green and how dramatically luxe the approach can be.
