Orange and Thyme Gin and Tonic (1)

Friday afternoon again and time for our weekly G&T.

The Facebook fans have spoken and this week I have an Orange and Thyme Gin and Tonic for you. I do so love testing two G&T's out on a Thursday 😀

Quickly Jump to:

And what a gin and tonic it is! This is perfect for those late summer evenings when oranges are at their sweetest and the sun set is perfect. Although they are also great for those short winter evenings when the fire is roaring and all you can do is sit back and dream of summer 😉

This Orange and Thyme Gin and Tonic is an all year round drink 😀

Thyme in a Gin and Tonic?

Thyme is a fabulous flavour to add to gin, it brings out all the floral notes and botanicals in the gin.

Try to get super fresh thyme so the leaves don't crumble into your G&T. You want the bright green leaves to stay on the stem if possible. It just makes it easier to get the flavor without ending up with bits in your drink!

If you only have dried thyme you can still give this a try but don't skip the straining stage, as dried thyme can be a bit woody. And no one wants to choke on their G&T!.

How to put orange in a gin and tonic

I didn't want too much orange flavor in this (Save that for the gin and orange co*cktails) here we want the hint of orange to pull out the fruity flavours of the gin.

So we just want to use the zest, it has wonderful aromatic orange flavors and also looks so pretty!

Give the gin a shake with a strip of orange zest or two and then garnish with a second/third strip. If you like more orange than add a thick orange wedge to your glass.

Make sure when you cut off the zest you do it over the glass, the oils that spray off will lightly coat the glass and give the G&T an extra zest.

Also when cutting off the zest try to get as little of the white pith as possible, this is biter and doesn't taste of orange.

This is SO good! I have to admit I added a few drops of Grand Marnier just for the orange taste to stand out a bit, it was absolutely delicious. I feel it tastes a little bit like liquid orange cream sicle but maybe I had too much! 😉

Really really good! A nice alternative when you don't have limes on deck. May be making this even when I do get some limes in the house!
