RECIPE FEATURES

  • Prep Ahead: You can make the berry syrup for this recipe up to a week in advance.
  • Easy to Double: Want to make mocktails for a crowd? Double the recipe!
  • Perfect for Parties: This drink is loved by children and adults, which makes it perfect for any party or gathering.

It’s no secret that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It’s one of two times in the year that our entire family gets together for fun festivities. I love to serve spooky treats and co*cktails, but this year made it a goal to create a Halloween non alcoholic drink. We have so many underaged attendees and this simple mocktail is perfect.

You only need a handful of ingredients to make the berry syrup and it is SO easy to customize. My very picky 13 year old gives this the stamp of approval, as well as my bestie who claims this as the go-to party drink of the year.

HALLOWEEN MOCKTAIL INGREDIENTS

This kid friendly halloween mocktail comes together with just five simple ingredients. AND you can customize them to fit your tastes. I really love that this gives you a spooky purple halloween drink that is also non-alcoholic. Here is what you need to get started:

  • Berries: I wanted a deep purple or red color, so I opted for blackberries and blueberries. However, you could really use any of your favorite berries. Try raspberries, cherries, or a mix of them all. You can use fresh or frozen fruits.
  • Sugar: A touch of sugar goes in with the berries to sweeten the syrup. I recommend using regular white, or granulated, sugar and not brown sugar.
  • Water: Again, just a touch to help give the berry syrup that perfect texture.
  • Limes: With all of the sweet berries, a dash of lime juice helps add a little tart to balance the flavors. I like to use fresh limes, but bottled lime juice will work in a pinch.
  • Soda: Here is where you can get really creative. I used lemon lime soda and a sparkling berry water. Both were delicious. You could also opt for ginger ale or any other flavor of sparkly water.

HOW TO MAKE A NON-ALCOHOLIC HALLOWEEN DRINK

  1. PREP: Wash the berries you plan to use, or slightly thaw if you are using frozen fruit.
  2. SYRUP: To make the syrup, place the berries, sugar, water and lime juice into a small pot. Bring to a simmer and gently mash the berries. Let this cook for 5 minutes.
  3. STRAIN: Pour the syrup through a fine strainer to catch the seeds, gently pressing the berries to release more juices.
  4. MOCKTAIL: When ready to serve, add 2-3 tablespoons of the syrup to a glass with ice. Top off with chilled soda and fresh berries.

HELPFUL TOOLS

  • Fine Strainer: Using a strainer (affiliate) is key to catching all of the berry seeds to keep them out of your drinks. You could also opt for cheesecloth (affiliate).
  • Halloween Glasses: The glasses I used are from Smiths, but these adorable halloween cups (affiliate) are perfect!
  • Syrup Dispenser: I used a mason jar, but I just ordered these syrup dispensers (affiliate) for our party. They are SO cute and perfect for serving.

Recipe Notes:

Can you make these alcoholic?

While this recipe is written as non-alcoholic, you can also serve this as a co*cktail.
Fill a glass with ice.
Add 1.5 oz of vodka (one shot) into the glass with they syrup.
Top off with chilled soda, stir, and enjoy.

Can this recipe be made in advance?

You can make the berry syrup up to one week in advance. I recommend also chilling the soda overnight so it’s nice and cold when serving.

Can I just use fruit juice?

The syrup in this recipe is loaded with berry flavor. However, in a pinch you can use red grape juice or pomegranate juice. Use the 1:1 ratio of juice to soda.

How can I make this drink more spooky?

The dark red color is already theme fitting. However, you can always add halloween ice cubes (affiliate) or use halloween stir sticks (affiliate).
