Glühwein

Glühwein (or mulled wine in English) is the drink we all associate with Christmas in Germany and the most popular drink at the Christmas Market. But luckily, this drink is easy to make without alcohol.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of alcohol-free red wine (Noughty)

  • 150ml GIMBER (or use 2-3 cm fresh ginger)

  • 1 orange sliced

  • 1 lemon sliced

  • 3 cloves

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 2-3 star anise

  • Brown sugar to taste

You can use a bag of ready-mixed mulling spices instead of fresh spices.

Method

  1. Add the alcohol-free wine, GIMBER, fruit and spices to a pan.

  2. Stir this over low to medium heat to let the flavours mix together. Do not let it boil.

  3. Add brown sugar to taste. The amount needed will depend on how sweet your alcohol-free wine is.

  4. Bring it in a thermos to a Christmas market, or pour it into an Irish Coffee mug and garnish with a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick.

  • 50 ml alcohol-free rum (either Myth Dark rum or Marie Laveau White rum)
