So, you want to build a tiny house. Congratulations—that is a great decision! If you have DIY skills, you may be able to build your home on your own. Otherwise, you can contract out for some or all of the construction required. Either way, you are going to need floor plans to get started.
Even if you do pay for floor plans, it doesn’t have to be a big expense. In fact, in this list, we are going to point you in the direction of tiny house floor plans for free as well as tiny house floor plans that are cheap.
But first, let’s talk about what is important in tiny house floor plans and where to get them.

What to Look for in Tiny House Floor Plans
- Your floor plans may not be the literal foundation on which you build your home, but they are still foundational to the entire process.
- That means that building the tiny house that is right for you starts with choosing plans that are suitable for your needs.
- Here are some questions to ask yourself when choosing floor plans for a tiny house:
- Who created these floor plans? What are their credentials?
- Will these floor plans help me to build a safe and stable tiny house?
- Will these floor plans help me build a home that conforms to local and state building codes for where I will live?
- How many people will live in a tiny house both now and over the years ahead? If you have kids or might in the future, you should plan for that.
- Where will I put this home? Will the floor plans I’m considering making the best possible use of the site?
- On what type of foundation will this house rest?
- Will I move this home around?
- How important is privacy vs. openness to me and my family in home design?
Will I be working in my home as well as living in it? What kind of workspace do I need?
- How important is a large kitchen for me?
- What leisure activities do I and my family members enjoy? What kinds of indoor and outdoor spaces do we need to do those activities?
- Do I need a bathtub or only a shower?
- Do I want a home with an appearance and layout which resembles a traditional suburban home, or do I prefer another layout?
- Do I want vertical space in my home? Do I prefer a downstairs bedroom or a loft—or both? How will I feel about climbing stairs or a ladder in the future?
- What are my storage needs now and in the future?
- How clean and uncluttered do I want my space to look?
- Do I want something more rustic and homespun or more sleek and contemporary?
- What are my needs in terms of accessibility?
While you are answering all of these questions, you will probably come up with plenty of others which should help you in choosing an appropriate tiny house for plans.

Now that we have gone over some useful questions to ask yourself when choosing a layout for your home, let’s check out some free tiny house floor plans and cheap tiny house floor plans.
1. 130-Square-Foot Tiny Home by Tiny House Design
If you are looking for floor plans for a tiny house that is under 200 square feet, you will love this beautiful little home by Tiny House Design.
The house measures 21 feet long and contains just 130 ft.² of space. As you can see, a loft has been cleverly incorporated above a small, sheltered porch area. Large windows ensure that the interior of the house is full of natural light.
Despite measuring just 130 ft.², this tiny house offers everything you need for comfortable living. There is a small seating area, some storage cubbies, a kitchen with seating at the bar, and a ladder that leads to a loft for sleeping. A composting toilet, a shower, and additional storage space are in the bathroom.

2. The Sweet Escape
Pratt Homes is a company that conveniently displays their floor plans for many of their layouts right on their site.
This tiny house is called the “Sweet Escape.” It measures 399 ft.². The layout would be ideal for a manufactured home community. The exterior includes a large, beautiful porch which is sheltered from the sun and fronted with three columns.
The huge kitchen is one of the standout features of the Sweet Escape layout. With multiple counters, a movable kitchen island that can double as a bar, a full set of appliances, and a huge farmhouse sink, it looks like a luxurious place to prepare your meals.
The floor plan includes a downstairs bedroom and a spacious living room as well. You can opt for a model with or without a loft.

3. Hypha’s Tiny Gypsy Wagon
Want to build a tiny house that you can live in fulltime for just $2,000? This inspirational project by Instructables user Hypa proves that it is possible. She only spent $2,000 to bring her little gypsy wagon to life.
As you can see, it is totally adorable! And it doesn’t look like it’d be suitable for fulltime living, but it is!
There is a fully functional kitchen complete with a faucet connected to an outdoor tank. To get a bed to fit in the home, she simply made one herself and put a ton of storage space underneath.
What is also cool about Hypha’s project is that she went into it without a lot of experience. She explained, “I love to create, make, and invent, and my lack of construction experience didn’t worry me too much … I trust my ability to reason through problems and engineer things, or know when something is beyond me. Most people have these abilities, they just need to learn to trust themselves.”

4. Recreational Resort Cottages and Cabins 399-Square-Foot Tiny House
Here is a tiny house that has really cozy, homey vibes, and a lovely floor plan measuring 399 square feet. It is a design by Recreational Resort Cottages and Cabins.
The kitchen and living room feature a nice, open layout. Past the kitchen, you’ll find the bathroom, which is adjacent to the downstairs bedroom.
Every inch of this little house exudes welcome and warmth.

5. MurchTech Consulting Corp. Modular Tiny House
Don’t want to build your own tiny house? You can have a modular home from MurchTech Consulting Corp. delivered to you from British Columbia. The company has a number of layouts to choose from, one of which is the Eagle Microhome measuring 350 square feet.
What is interesting about this layout is that it is a two-story floor plan. The majority of tiny houses have one main story and possibly a loft. So, for those who like more vertical builds, this is a great option.

6. SMUD Tiny House
This tiny house is a student design from Fresno State University for the competition by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).
The house measures 200 square feet. The exterior wood you see in this photo came from a 19th century barn. More than half of the resources that the students used to build their competition entry were donations.
The configuration of the home is similar to many other tiny houses, with a kitchen and seating area adjoining one another. There is a small sleeping loft over the seating area, and a bathroom past the kitchen.

7. Classic Archives Cottage Wood Cabin
If you want to live in a super tiny cottage that is absolutely adorable, you are going to love this wood cabin from The Classic Archives.
It measures 108 square feet, and was designed to be a guest cabin.
Unlike a lot of other free plans we have spotted, these ones include detailed information on the measurements. Of course, you can modify the measurements to your needs. But it sure is a lot easier with a starting point.

8. The Meadowview
Are you an outdoors lover? If so, you will love this tiny house called the “Meadowview” by Pratt Homes that features an epic porch.
It comes complete with an outdoor fireplace! The porch wraps around, giving you room to put a table and chairs in front of the fireplace as well as some additional chairs or benches to either side of the front door.
The spacious interior incorporates a beautiful downstairs bedroom.
Here is the floor plan for the home, complete with measurements. As you can see, the configuration brings together a perfect balance of indoor and outdoor living spaces with a simple, intuitive layout.

9. The Elizabeth
Also from Pratt Homes, we have the “Elizabeth.”
The exterior is deceptively ordinary, and could blend in with other manufactured homes at a park. But the beautiful porch with its white columns and railing is a standout feature that lets you know this is no ordinary manufactured house.
Here you can see what the combined living room and kitchen look like. I just love the layout and the color scheme and décor for this particular version of the home.
Here is the floor plan. The bathroom is adjacent to the kitchen, and beyond the kitchen is the downstairs bedroom.

10. The Beach View Tiny House
The Beach View Tiny House from Pratt Homes is another stunning house that includes a free floor plan.
The front of the house features a row of tall windows and a gabled roof.
As you can see, those huge windows fill the interior with natural light and incredible views.
The floor plan designates this house as “Trinica SL,” so “Beach View” is a nickname for the model. Behind the kitchen is the bathroom along with a small hall leading to a downstairs bedroom.

11. The Arrowhead Lodge
Let’s check out another tiny house from Pratt Homes with free floor pans.
This one is called the “Arrowhead Lodge.” As pictured here, it has a green roof with brown siding for a rustic appearance.
As you see in this shot, there is both a downstairs bedroom and a loft in this home.

12. Inspiration House
This tiny house is called the “Inspiration,” and it is a design from Comfort Tiny Homes.
The house measures 238 square feet, and has a simple, lovely appearance.
Simplicity is also at the heart of the interior layout and design.
The floor plan doesn’t have measurements, but since you know the square footage of the house, you could probably estimate all the measurements using that information.

13. The Greyson Series (Best)
Here is a tiny log cabin that includes free floor plans from Green River Log Cabins.
The model is 399 square feet, and includes a large screened-in porch where you can enjoy the outdoors without dealing with insects.
Beautiful wood cabinets, custom storage steps, and other lovely features abound.
Above are complete floor plans for the tiny house, including measurements for every room. Interestingly, the bedroom is located behind the living room rather than the kitchen and bathroom, with the porch on the opposite end of the house.

14. The Mountain Cabin
This tiny house by Pratt Homes is another beauty that comes with free floor plans.
Here we again have the natural wood siding with a green metal roof. This look is very popular, and gives a house a rustic feel.
The interior of the home features the same rustic flavor as the exterior with lots of beautiful wood. The angling of the ceiling draws the eye upward, but the flat section on the other side doesn’t intrude on the space the way a regular gable would. The result is a feeling of stupendous openness.
This house also features the bedroom off of the living room rather than behind the kitchen. You’ll notice in the layout that there is something special next to the bathroom—bunks! So, this home would be a great option for a family.

15. Oklahoma Tiny House
Here is a tiny house that was listed for sale in Oklahoma. The builder is IdaHomes.
The exterior of the home is a lovely blue-gray color.

16. The Titus
The next tiny house on our list is the “Titus” by Pratt Homes.
The home’s most striking outdoor feature is its large, sheltered porch.
Along with a master bedroom next to the bathroom, there is a second bedroom with room for bunk beds across from the kitchen.

17. Heritage Housing Tiny Homes
In Athens, GA, there is a company specializing in wholesale tiny houses with financing called Heritage Housing.
You can purchase this company’s houses for $350 a month.

18. The Tumbleweed
Pratt Homes made it easy for us to find and save their floor plans while we were writing up their houses over the years, so we have a lot of them in here for you to check out!
This lovely model is called the “Tumbleweed.” With its large, gabled porch, it has a homey, inviting look.
This spacious model includes both a loft and a downstairs bedroom.
The floor plan above includes measurements and lets you see the configuration of the house.

19. The Fair House
This tiny house by Pratt Homes measures 398.6 square feet.
The exterior includes all of the hallmarks of this builder, including a long, narrow design similar to other manufactured homes and a large, covered porch fronted by columns with a gabled roof.
The living room and kitchen share a spacious, open design with plenty of open for space and versatility for your needs.
As you can see in the floor plan (which includes measurements), the bedroom and bathroom are located side-by-side and are situated behind the living room and kitchen. The porch is on the opposite side of the house.

20. Texas Tiny House
When I found this tiny house, it was for sale for $30,000 in Greenville, Texas. It measures 399 square feet.
Its configuration is similar to many of the other layouts we have looked at, with the long, narrow shape typical of the manufactured home and a large, sheltered porch with columns and a railing.
Indeed, I think it is actually the same as one of the other floor plans in this list. But you can take a look at the original post to see different photos, allowing you to further visualize the possibilities with this layout. You can find the floor plans at the source post as well.

21. The Kamp-Haus
Imagine living comfortably in a mere 160 square feet. With the Kamp-Haus from Wheelhaus, you can do just that.
Actually, there are two versions of the Kamp-Haus. One measures 160 square feet, while the other measures 240 square feet. With Scandinavian-inspired design, it features huge windows and a sheltered porch that is simply an extension of the roof and walls past the front door.

22. The Lookout
Also from Wheelhaus, we have the “Lookout” tiny house.
As you can see, the house is aptly named, considering that two of the walls are almost entirely glass, allowing you to look out at the scenery and enjoy expansive views and lots of natural light.

23. The Degsy
This tiny house is called the “Degsy,” and is the work of the 84 Lumber Company.
The exterior features contrasting colors, windows that open outward, and a sloped roof that can shed precipitation.
With its cozy, raised kitchen and its stunning artwork in the living room, this tiny house has always been a favorite of mine.
The floor plan is large, clear, and easy to read with measurements and details on the storage under the kitchen.
As this is a particularly beautiful tiny house with lots of unique artistic elements, I strongly recommend that you take a look at all of the photos at the original post.

24. Pinecrest Log Cabin Kit
If you want to build your own tiny house the easy way, you can consider the Pinecrest Log Cabin Kit from BZBCabins.com.
The tiny house you can build with this kit measures 123 square feet. It is just one room, and is probably most suitable for a backyard shed or guest room, but you could live in it if you chose to.
Because the floor plan is so simple and straightforward and you can order everything you need in the kit, this project should be a good one for beginning DIYers.

25. Toulouse Bertch Pavilion
If you want a tiny house with a vertical layout and an imaginative design, you will love the Toulouse Bertch Pavilion by Barrett Leisure.
It is a tiny house with a tower! In all, it contains 272 square feet of space.
To keep the lower floor as open as possible, a small spiral staircase leads up to the second story.

26. Camping Corones
If you are visiting Rasen, Italy, you can stay at Camping Corones in a 500 square foot log cabin built by Sitka Log Homes.
Technically, 500 square feet is “large” for a tiny house, but in general, it is still pretty small. But you can see that these cabins look anything but small inside thanks to their wide open layouts!
The floor plan images are a bit “casual,” but they still show you the layouts and can provide you with some inspiration and guidance for designing your own tiny house.

27. Kanga Room Systems Tiny House
This tiny house was built using a pair of tiny house kits. The owners assembled them both and then connected them, creating a breezeway in between.
What a great idea! You end up with double the indoor space and a nice, sheltered, shaded outdoor space you can enjoy.

28. MitchCraft Tiny Homes Adobe-Style House
Here is a home with a unique appearance! It sits on a gooseneck trailer and looks like a traditional adobe dwelling.
I can’t imagine how many comments the owners get when they pull up to a spot in a park with this amazing movable home.

29. Summerfield Tiny House
This tiny house is called the “Summerfield,” and is a design by the Santa Ana, CA-based company Cali Cottages.
The house features a simple, modern interior. Most of the living space has been left wide open, with the kitchen situated underneath the loft in a cozy little nook in the back. A decorative railing draws the eye, but brings attention to the kitchen rather than diminishing it.

30. The Ecocapsule
Slovakia-based Nice Architects designed the “Ecocapsule” as a futuristic, eco-friendly tiny house.
The house features an unusual pod shape. On top you can see solar panels, while a small windmill provides additional power.

31. Lexa Dome Homes
Looking for something a little bit different? Consider a Lexa Dome house.
The home measures 540 square feet and has a unique “beehive” shape.
Here you can see the floor plan for the round layout. The kitchen and living room occupy one big shared space, as they tend to in other tiny houses with more typical configurations. Impressively, the builder has found space for two bedrooms along with a bathroom.

32. The Flex House
One of my very favorite tiny houses is the Flex House, and it has a floor plan you can view. The Flex house is very cool, as it takes a very balanced approach to creating a small, sustainable living space that isn’t quite tiny.
Green Builder Media writes, “Green Builder Media and Shelter Dynamics proudly introduce the Flex House, a model for “Right-Sized” living in a small, flexible space that is connected, intelligent, resilient and sustainable … What I like about the Flex house is we’re not asking people to sacrifice; we’re just asking people to not use any more than they need.”
At 760 square feet, the Flex House is not a tiny house in the traditional sense, but it is small! But just by tacking on a little bit of extra space, it is possible to accommodate a kitchen, two main living areas, a bathroom, two bedrooms, and a “niche” room.

33.The Azure
Like the Flex House, the Azure tiny house may technically be considered more of a “small” house than a “tiny” house. It measures 640 square feet, making it a nice “in-between” option for those who want just a little more room than a tiny house has to offer, but do not want a full-sized home.
The designer of the Azure tiny house is the Canadian company Lumbec. The home includes a high gabled roof with the corner overhanging a small porch. On one side of the home is a pergola.
In the floor plans, the Azure is referred to as the “Coach House.”

34. The Relax Shack
Next up, we have a home called the “Relax Shack” by Mini Mansions Tiny Home Builders.
The builders write, “Our tiny house’s and our idea of simpler living will insure our simple life. We hope we can inspire others to live simpler as we have been inspired by other tiny home owners. We can help you achieve that goal by building you a tiny home. Every aspect of the construction that goes into a tiny house is truly built with love and understanding, we know first hand what this tiny home means to someone. Simply said, it means freedom.”
This overhead 3D image shows you the layout of the Relax Shack. Although it only includes a couple of measurements, you could extrapolate to figure out the rest.

35. The Villa Hermina
One of the most unusual tiny houses you’ll ever see is the Villa Hermina in Černín in the Czech Republic.
Weird-looking, right? But the inside is so cool.
A ramp connects the three floors of the structure, providing an interesting alternative to a ladder or stairs, and keeping the entire house accessible for any occupant without resorting to a one-story design.

36. The Delta Cabin
Here we have the Delta Cabin in Argentina by Arquitectos Todo Terreno (AToT).
The unusual framework and awning above the roof makes the deck on top of the house versatile so that you can sit in the sun or the shade.

37. The Oregon Trail
The Oregon Trail is a model from Tiny SMART House.
The floor plan of the home is simple and open.
There are no measurements except for the 7’ x 22’ for the trailer, but the plan makes it easy to see where all the rooms and features are located. Again, you probably can extrapolate to figure out the measurements for each specific feature.

38. The Haleakala
This beautiful 24 foot home was designed by Tiny Pacific Houses.
The home features a huge loft above the kitchen.
This is one of the nicest floor plans we have seen in that it is large, clear, and has measurements. You can see both the upstairs and the downstairs.

This tiny house is the work of Rich’s Portable Cabins.
Its appearance is that of a lovely little rustic log cabin, but with big, modern windows. The steep slope of the roof should do a good job shedding rain and snow.

Finally, we have tiny houses from Pin-Up Houses. The plans for these houses are not free, but they are economical. The majority of them cost $300 or less, and include far more than just basic floor plans. With the layouts and measurements, you also receive tools and materials lists and step-by-step DIY guides.
Some of the plans are rustic …
Others are modern.
Not only are the plans for these tiny houses affordable, but the houses themselves were designed to be budget-friendly to build.
The majority of them can be constructed for $10,000 or less, and some of them it is possible to build with just a couple thousand dollars.
